Peoplepc Internet Service Paid up to August, cancelled in July, but they kept it open - now I'm in collections! Internet

In March 2009 I signed up for PeoplePC, who I have used before. I paid up in advance, to August 15, 2009. But my local phone company finally got a DSL slot for me in April. Since PeoplePC does NOT prorate if you cancel before the due-date, I waited until July 15 2009 to call and cancel with them. The CSR I spoke to tried to get me to keep the service but I was adamant with him and said PLEASE CANCEL, AS OF TODAY.
In September, I started receiving calls from PeoplePC, telling me that I owed them for 2 months of service. I replied "I cancelled this in July". To which (of course) they said "we have no record of cancellation".
Then in November I began receiving collections calls from NCO - several times a week, sometimes more than once a day. Now I have fought back - I have signed on with a lawfirm that sues collection agencies for violation the consumer protection laws, and I"m also filing this report to take action against PeoplePC.
