DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A CONSUMER WARNING WRITTEN BY A VICTIM OF PEOPLES CHOICE REAL ESTATE, LLC AND NOT AFOREMENTIONED COMPANY

Peoples Choice Real Estate, LLC

359 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211

718-782-2400 / fax 718-782-2445

Peoples Choice Real Estate, LLC

Where were willing to say anything to make your money our money. Guaranteed.

WARNING TO ALL NYC LANDLORDS:  Do not use this company to lease your properties as they conduct business like a coven of dishonest and unprofessional jackasses who will hurt your reputation by your association with them.

WARNING TO ALL NYC RENTERS:  If you respond to a craigslist or other housing ad and learn that there is a management company showing the apartment, collecting security deposit and rent for the first month, etc. be very careful in who you are dealing with. Ask them for the name of the company the person works for. If it is Peoples Choice Real Estate, LLC or youre told to come to the above address then you may want to keep on looking. They will paint you a nice picture: 1) a 30-day clause on the lease saying that you will get your security deposit back if you give notice that you will be moving out with 30 days advance; 2) that youll get to have a meet up with ALL prospective roommates prior to move-in and that if you change your mind youll get your security deposit back; 3) Theyll tout how good they are at finding cool people to move in together (which is silly to take credit for, New Yorkers are cool so if you happened to be looking for an apartment here then what could you expect to happen?).

An example of the true nature of their business practices are as follows:

On November 17, 2009 I went into their office and filled out an application for an apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant. One of their agents had shown me an apartment in Bushwick as well. I had decided to go with the apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Neither apartment had been filled yet. I had hoped to move in sooner than later, so I noted on my application that I was interested in either apartment but filled the application out for the Bedford-Stuyvesant address.  I paid my security deposit in cash and was given a receipt signed by the supervisor, Mickey. I met one of the roommates for the apartment in Bed-Stuy that night.

On November 23, 2009 I texted their agent, Nathan, asking when I could get my keys for the address in Bed-Stuy and he responded, Like tom or wed at latest. To which, I responded: Is there a meet up with the other tenants? Nathan: Yeah. Im trying to organize.

I heard nothing from Nathan on November 24, 2009, so on November 25, 2009 I texted Nathan: Any word on a meet up or move in {at Bed-Stuy address)? Nathan responded: Move in and meet up Monday. I had not heard from Nathan regarding a meet up between November 26, 2009 through November 30, 2009 (Monday), so I called him and asked for my security deposit back as my employment situation was about to change for the worse and I would need to go back to Tennessee. He said that I could get my security deposit back, but that he was on his way to NYC from spending Thanksgiving somewhere. Later, I texted him, When can I come by the office to pick up my deposit? Nathan responded, Im almost back. Ill call you soon. Nathan did not return my phone call that evening.

On December 1, 2009 I called Nathan and asked when I could pick up my security deposit.  He said I could come by the office at any time.  When I arrive at the office, Nathan was not there. So, I explained to another polite gentleman who worked there that Nathan had said I could come by to pick up my security deposit. He said that I would have to wait to speak to their supervisor, Mickey. He said that Mickey would be back in a little while. I waited about 20 minutes and he came back and said that since Mickey was sympathetic to my situation they would give me half of my security deposit back, even though they had failed to schedule a meet up with the other roommates. I was then told that it had been too long all of 13 days and that I had been out of contact, which was untrue. I had repeatedly called or texted Nathan during those 13 days. It was their incompetence that prevented a meet up with the other roommates at the Bed-Stuy apartment from ever taking place.

After waiting for about 2 hours for Mickey to show up I was asked to leave the office and come back at 5 PM.  Upon doing this, I waited for Mickey some more. He tried to tell me that the application for the apartment was the same thing as a contract and that because I had written that I was interested in either apartment that I had to take the Bushwick apartment.  Following their own procedures for leasing an apartment, I should have had to meet ALL of the other tenants and then we all would have had to approve of each other before moving in. I met only one and for a different apartment than the one they forced me to move into prior to requesting my security deposit back. Three of the prospective roommates for the Bushwick address happened to be in the office while I was making a scene, and so rather than lose the value of my security deposit I moved into the Bushwick address. That apartment wasnt even finished or ready for move in over a week into the month. After moving all my stuff in, their agent, Joseph (his friends call him Dante, but I was not treated as a friend) promised the room I had moved into to the last tenant to move in on December 08, 2009. Also, as I was unexpectedly unemployed and that was my reason for wanting out of the situation I was not prepared for the situation so I was forced to live off of meager rations eating once per day (maybe twice if I was feeling like a greedy piggy). So, if youve made it this far through this CONSUMER WARNING then you are forewarned just because the rent is cheap doesnt mean it is worth putting up with these assholes.

Have a nice day and a nice life. May your apartment hunting go well.
