I went to pep boys auto in monroeville pa with brake fluid leaking from my rear tire service manager called and said i had all kinds of parts missing from my tire this was suprising to me since my car was recently purchased and the lot had just inspected the car but i agreed to hav the repairs done upon picking up my car it felt worse than it did when i dropped it off i thought maybe the brake fluid needed to work its way back through the system so i waited my car didnt get better it got worse upon reviewing my reciept i discovered they replaced parts that were not dicussed or approved for repair i i then took my car back to pep boys inquired about the extra charges they assured me that the repairs not dicussed were needed because they would hav broken soon but they werent broke yet i fought with them a lil and didnt get anywhere so i figured fine ill take the loss i just need my car repaired the correct way i hav 3 children and need my brake system to work properly so they immediatly said it sounds like something else went bad without even looking at the car i said its been this way since i picked it up from the repair nothing else went (the first time they replaced everything on my rear 2 drums 2callibers 2 wheel cylinders brake shoes all hoses totaling 631.00) he proceeded to tell me that dodge intrepids are just terrible cars i stated that shouldnt have anything to do with it i then let them check out the car they later called me and said they had bad news that both of my roders were bad and not only bad so bad they would need to be completly replaced and could not be shaved i then said im a women but not stupid when i asked about my other brakes with the first repair they told my they checked everything and the other brakes were great so i said if they were bad why did you tell me they were great i recently had new front brakes so i knew they were good and they had notted on paper work that brakes pads on front were new so i said you notted thAT front brake pads were new when i had the first work done it would have been mentioned the first time if my roders were that bad he said he appoligised that they didnt look at the roders with the first repair i said how can u see that the brake pads are new but not see that the roders are bad he tried to talk a circle around me so i said dont replace anything im not paying you anymore money put my car back together ill pick it up upon picking it up i took it to another local garage import export the mechanic at import export called me and said that my car had drums on it that were worped i then sid how are my roders he said the roders were fine i then went to pep boys and asked them why they were tring to charge me for a repair i didnt need and they put on drums that werent right he proceeded to then say that 1 roder was bad and the other one would b shortly after i told him he is full of it and said i now dont even trust that i needed all the other parts replaced i requested my money back so that i can get my car repaired at a place trustworthy and i had used the little savings i had for this car repair he said thats not gonna happen but he would shave the drums for me if i wanted to believe import export i then sid if its not true why are you willing to do the repair recommended by import export and not do the roders now if your telling the truth wouldnt you stand by your word how can i trust this company to work on my car to make things right so i then requested the district managers number and he tried to give me his store managers number twice i got mad and said this is not the number i requested and got the district managers number i will be calling him and requesting his bosses number also after seeing all the reports on this web site for pep boys if they dont make this situation right i will b contacting my local news stations i hav no more money to get my car fixed the correct way why should i hav to suffer when this company is cleaning and risking peoples safety you take your car to get repaired so that it will b safe on the road and pep boys are not insuring your safety please dont go there for car repairs your car maynot b safe for you or others on the road and you may pay alot of money for an unsafe car.

You've got a lot of nerve

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (U.S.A.)

Calling someone else a scam artist. So, are you a mechanic and employee of SGS Automotive, or are you the poor hapless victim of Pep Boys that you claim in Ripoff Reports #453183 and #455662? Who's the real scammer here?

How much did you get paid for that.

AUTHOR: Tdmagee Of Sgs - (U.S.A.)

Hmm your rebuttal says that you too have probably scammed someone. It is people like you that give the REAL mechanic in this country a bad name.. So how much did your store pay you to say this... Hope you feel the same way when they let you go. And besides why would this customer go to a different Pep Boys to get a opinion when that customer is on your data base. Boy I hope you are a good mechanic like you are a SCAM ARTIST. and oh by the way BURNT it is burned..

#3 UPDATE Employee

Make it a point to educate yourself...ask questions

AUTHOR: Carguy - (U.S.A.)

When you bring your car into a shop complaining of a problem that is where the technican is going to look. In your case you had brake fluid leaking from the rear wheels. The front wheels will not be looked at unless specified. The front brake pads were most likely checked as a courtesy. It is possible to check the thickness of the brake pads by looking through the wheel either from the front or behind just to observe pad thinkness, so your front rotors could have been bad from the start.

A helpfull hint when getting any major repair done to your vehicle is ask questions! Ask the mannager to show you the repairs being done and save the old parts so that you can examine them. Educate yourself so that you are not taken advantage of. At the service counters there are diagrams to help you understand the system of the car you are getting repaird. If you read them you would know that your brake ROTORS were bad not your RODDERS and you had faulty brake CALIPERS not CALLIBURS. Also you either have calipers or wheel cylinders...not both.

Yes there are people in this world that will try to get over on you, but saying that an entire company is untrustworthy becasue of one bad experince is a little unfair. If you are unsatisfied with your service take your vehicle to a different Pep Boys to get a second oppinion. If you went to McDonnalds and got a burnt hamburger would you say that every McDonnalds was bad becasue of one bad experience?

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Typical Pepboys.

AUTHOR: Mechanicgtr - (U.S.A.)

A car may be sold as-is, but still must pass state inspection. I would also take this up with the company your bought the car from. Find out what happened exactly. Not saying it will get you anywhere, but it's worth a phone call.

In addition, call 1-800-PEPBOYS and file an official complaint. I'm not sure, but I think the regional managers name is Victor or Ken (they go through managers so fast it isn't funny, and PA is kinda a split area).

Next time you have brake work done, ask for all the old parts back so that you can have them scrutinized. That will keep the shop alot more honest.

Stick to your guns KC.
