My car ,a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, would not start,  I thought it was the fuel pump so I had it towed to this location to get an "experts opinion".  After I told them what I thought They said they could do a "no Start" diagnostic and would let me know what the problem was and it would cost me 89.99 for them to find the problem so I told them to do it.  They called me later and told me they needed to replace the fuel pump and they recommend that they change the fuel pump relay too.  this added about 510.00 to the bill.  That was something I could not afford.

After about a week my father-in-law came into town and bought a new fuel pump for the car.  He jacked the car up and before he dropped the tank he saw a loose wire.  He connected the wire and the car started perfectly.  The fuel pump in the car worked just fine.  I was shocked that the mechanic up at pepboys did not see the wire when he looked at the car.  I went back up to pepboys and spoke with the manager on duty and asked him why I paid 89.99 for the wrong information.  He said they do not look at the car that the only hook it up to a machine and it tells them whats wrong.  I was dumbfounded.  He went on to say that It is My word against thiers that the problem was a loose wire.

Pep Boys Tried to Take Advantage of Me too.. I didn't Trust them and went Elsewhere..

AUTHOR: ilic - (USA)

About a year ago I started noticing smoke coming from my hood of my 1997 Ford Taurus. I am a single woman and I had recently moved to Dallas. I didn't know really anyone and this frightened me. I looked under my hood and noticed one of my large hoses was leaking fluid which was burning on my hot engine. It was leaking bad so that anywhere I went the smoke would come up and draw attention.

A guy from my job looked at the hose and told me I was leaking power steering fluid. He stated it was the Power steering hose. I priced the hose and was told it would cost $80.00. Ok that was affordable. However, I did not know a mechanic and simply decided to call a shop. I called Pep Boys. The man from Pep Boys told me that it would be $99.00 per hour and that they had a 4 hour minimum on every job. I was shocked by this. The hose was somewhat intricate and I didn't want to replace it but I knew that was simply way too much. Pep Boys quotes me around %513.00 including labor and parts to repair the hose.

I was in South Dallas (over in the hood...lol, off of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd) and my friend told me to go up the road to a mexican shop. He said they were open and I was suprised to find them open as it was a Sunday. However, the man came out and he had me open my hood and he looked inside and told me it would be $45 dollars and  the job would take around 40 minutes. I went and bought the part and came back and they put the part on and it was so quick and easy.

I saved over $$450.00!!!  Pep Boys is a RIPOFF... Most mechanic shops are honestly which is why they stay on the Rip off lists and stay with angry customers. They all try to get over. I have a friend who use to work for a mercedes dealership for several years and you know how dealerships charge by the hour to work on your car. He told me they would pull the car to the back and let it sit for 40 minutes while working on another car (all the while charging the customer) and go on lunch break for an hour (while still charging the customer) and once finished the car would sit for another 40 minutes to an hour (while still charging the customer)... This is WRONG.

Good luck

chances are they will not refund coil packs. As with all electronic auto parts all sales are final. It doesn't matter where you buy parts from. Unless there is a warranty issue you are probably stuck
