I recently became solely responsible for a house, including all the utilities as well as yearly taxes and insurace. In addition to this, I've had to buy a new car to get back and forth to work, which means a car payment that I didnt have before. Since I had student loans that I was and am still paying on at the time, my monthly car payment is kind of hgh so I had been struggling with paying my student loans monthly but paid what I could when I could.
Performant Recovery contacted me by letter stating that as of Frebruary 20, 2014 i owed the entire amount of my student loan $10487.69 and that the original loan owner referred the claim to their office. I called the number provided a few times expecting to speak with the collector named on the paperwork, but kept getting an automated system asking for an extension which the letter did not provide. Finally someone called me at the end of the work day but my phone was about to cut off and he told me to call back the number that showed up on the caller ID within the next 15 minutes because he was leaving for the day. I called back within 5 minutes and no one answered, I kept calling, but kept getting the automated system.
A few days later, I was able to answer my phone when they called when they called and it was someone different than who was named on the letter. She told me that she was a representative of the company who bought my defaulted loan and that the entire amount was due right then. I requested proof of what the loan was bought for and was denied because she is "just a representative" and has no record of that type of information. She repeatedly told me that the call was being monitored and recorded and made me repeat my social security number for verification because she didnt have my account information in front of her. She also asked me very personal questions about my dad and his finances asking me to verify.
She requested to do a financial profile asking for very personal information about myself and requested that my dad, who is my co-signer, call to enter his financial information as well. She ran my infomation and gave me several VERY unreal payment options such as: if I paid $5,000 by that following Monday, I could pay $100+ monthly for so many years or if I paid $1000 that day my monthly payments would be some other outrageous amount. I repeatedly told her that I did not have that kind of money and I was struggling as it is with all my other bills. She's called and harrassed my parents as well as myself several times.
I was able to send a payment of $100 just to show that I am trying and she called about a week and half later and hung up but didnt leave a message. She then called my parents again asking for more financial info right after calling me because my mom called and asked if I had talked to the lady. I called the woman back and was put on hold for way too long and when I hung up and called back, I got the voicemail. I'm glad I stumbled on this site and that I'm not the only one that has been harrassed by this company. I am now in the process of trying to find a company that will help me get this loan out of default.
