I worked for Petco for almost 5 years. I worked under a great store manager and I worked hard and for the company. I worked holidays and even stayed over night once so the floor could be waxed. I was a dog trainer, a manager and I ran animal events. The store was getting good business and making money. Then the store manager left and Shelly Bookenberger came in. She started finding small reasons to fire people. She fired the grooming manager for giving small discounts to customers and associates. Myself and one other manager were fired for receiving the discounted price. After all the management staff was gone, she replaced them all with people either from her old store or people she hand picked from other stores. Then she started going after the other associates. Making thing so bad they wanted to quit or finding some small thing to fire them. She doesn't care for the company or the customers or employees. She just wants to surround herself with people like her. She is corrupt and takes advantage of her position to do as she pleases with no regard to others. Anyone who calls HR is fired for any reason they can find. Recently someone called HR to make complaints and the store manager, district manager wanted to have a meeting with her. She brought a lawyer and when they saw the lawyer they wanted to reschedule the meeting. Probably because they were just going to fire her but got scared about the lawyer. In short, don't go there for anything. It is a corrupt and unfair environment and the managers don't care about the customer.
