Today I went to the above-said establishment to buy the necessary items for an elegant dinner party. I carefully selected the items over two hours to make sure everything was just right. Among my items were two Maine lobsters, 4 pounds of shrimp, 8 filet mignons, fresh baked goods from the bakery, and of course fine wine. The staff was quite helpful as I was making my selections, and even suggested some delicacies to balance out the affair.

However, when it came time to check out, all of that changed. As I handed the clerk my foodstamps to pay for my items, the clerk became vehemently rude and almost violent. He reached for the microphone on the side of his cash register and announced that I was paying for "luxury items," as he called it. with food stamps! The gall of him! He was clearly out to embarras me.

He then demanded that I pay for the items in some other manner. I informed him that legally he needs to accept my foodstamps because that is what they are for -- food!! He then completed ringing up my transaction, and promptly spat at me when I turned to leave! I could hardly believe this treatment.

I called the store manager when I returned home, and he did not seem to care. In fact, he almost defended his lousy clerk, stating that they are tired of "food stamp abusers," whatever that is. Can't a person go into a store and pay with food stamps and have a little respect these days?!

IT is all a lie

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

OK for starters, I reciently lost job, my car was repoed and so forth. We are living with in a rental house that my dad had that was vacant at the time, otherwise I could not even post this as we would be homeless.

For starters it is ileagal for you to buy beer, wine, andything non food releated with your food stamp ebt card. Stuff like toilet paper tooth paste also cant be bought. If a store sells that to you they can be fined into the millions of dollars and you can go to jail, not only that loose you current benifits and any future claims to benifits.  It is called fraud.

Food stamps are for folk who like me found themsleves one day with a great job, the next day getting let go due to the economy and now having to scrap to get everything we need to live on. While hopping we can get a new job.

You can only get them for 3 years at a time, a total of 5 years lifetime.  Just like TANF.

Now if somebody would have spit on me in the grocery store, they would be on the floor picking up their teeth, and the cops would be comming.

Buying lobster with food stamps are you nuts???  You only get 400 a month for a family of 3,  thats barly enough for 3 weeks much less 4 and thats just getting meat and veggies. We dont have elegant meals on food stamps we look around at who has the best sales so we can spread it futher.

All in all I can say the original poster needs to be taking out behind the outhouse for making folks who use food stamps look like fools.  Now I think some folks engage in fraud,  but for those of us who have lost everthing sometime you need help getting back up.

Chrissy,

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

are you dumb? Have you read all these stories. You're still looking like a fool. It's funny to see how much I get to you, but now it's getting silly. Especially when you read the posts we are posting on...don't you get it? By the way, your post was way to long, I only had time to read the first paragraph. So your wasting your time. Don't you have a wife or something? Oh yeah, what happened to your 2 corporations...oops I mean cooperations? I'm still waiting for the the names of those. Your cooperations must not be that successful, especially since you had you internet turned off.
Leonard did have a good idea though. He said it on your Charles report. We need an old fashion nude mud wrestling. That would be fun:) I also must admit, the Jo-idiot comment was too funny. You came up with that yourself? Again Chrissy, you're impressing me more and more! Visit me 'steelergirl13' on myspace. Just type (((link redacted))). After the / type in steelergirl13. Then you can say all this to my face if you have the balls:)

#5 Consumer Suggestion

jo-idiot you are more like charles every day

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

I guess I need to use your own words to show what a fool you are once again.

You said "There IS a Pony Alabama!!
All I did was go to ask and type in Pony Alabama. There were tons of results for it. " (10/02/2007). Then "YOU don't have your facts straight. Pony Alabama DOES EXIST."

(10/03/2007). Then "P.S I think Peter may be getting one over on us as well, but Pony AL does esxist." (10/05/07 - and what is 'exsist', did you learn that word in your great school system). Then on the SAME day you posted "I've never been to Pony AL. I admit, I don't know for sure if the town exists." Who is the hypocrite now?

Then you go off on another tangent first with these 2 gems: "Oh, and didn't I tell you to stop posting to me." and "NOW STOP POSTING TO ME!". This is a public website and you are all over it - I will respond to whatever I want to. Get over yourself. If it bothers you then get off the internet and spend some time with your children.

This is another great post "You have no idea who I am, and you constantly get your facts wrong." Well, if you had not posted so much personal information here you might be correct but this is from your postings: "I have waste length blond hair, green eyes, 5'3', 106lbs., and none of my kids did any damage to my body whatsoever. You'll see my bikini pic on myspace soon, and when it comes to my husband..he's almost 40 now and has been with me since I was 16. Yes, I have him wrapped around my little finger." and: "I never disrespected my husband. He's the most wonderful husband and father I've ever known. You however have disrespected my husband. I said he was almost 40. He's 38... OH MY LORD...there's 9 years between us..maybe we should cut off his balls, the pervert! I married (not maried) him when I was 18, He's been with me since I was 16. Common sense would tell you that if he was a pervert (as you say), he wouldn't still be with me. I'm 29 ...DUH." Brilliant writing - lots of personal information though. Still think I have no idea about you 'personally'?

However this is my favorite: "Boy Chrissy, you sure have spent a lot of time doing research on the computer since you got your internet turned back on. The town Ash does exist, I did not lie about anything...especially to you Chrissy! As I said on the reports, I don't believe these stories. Duh, learn to read Chrissy, and you might want to buy a copy of 'Internet for Dummies', because you need to learn how to do research. I don't understand WHY anyone would think I would try to make people believe in a make believe a town...at this point I could care less. I was just pointing out, that I could find it. Just like Chrissy was able to find Ash... but I wasn't able to. I know he found it, because he had the street name correct...good job Chrissy" Lets see, I did my research much better than you and was able to find Ash, OH on the internet - you could not. Who needs 'Internet for Dummies' or mabey 'Internet for Idiots'? LMAO

And as a wonderful finale you said "Chrissy says he wouldn't watch a movie called knocked up, because he only watches movies with intelligent plots. Yet, just YESTERDAY he posts on another thread referencing to how hilarious someone writing for 'The Onion' was". I did say i only watch movies with intelligent story lines but, jo-idiot, there is a difference between a movie and a publication. Can you understand that. Also please cut and paste a post where I said I read the 'Onion". I said peter/leonard should write for it - you see the 'Onion is a publication which I am AWARE of and I am AWAREthat it contains ridiculous stories like the one in this post.

I love this line: "I graduated in 1996 from Johnstown High School. They told us this several times when I was like in Elementary School. So that would be like the 80's. Guess what Mike, maybe some more smaller towns have be produced since the 80's". You were 'like' in elementary school. So does that mean you were in something similar to school? Perhaps you were in puppy training classes - that is 'like' elementary school for dogs. Or perhaps you were in a school for special needs children - 'like' the school for other children but not nearly as advanced. That would be my guess. And who 'produces' towns? Did you mean that smaller towns may have been formed? Keep bragging about that education jo-idiot!

Thanks for the morning laugh ;)

Now just a few facts to throw in. I grew up in Reynoldsburg, OH and moved to Denver when I was 18 - never went to school in Grand Junction loser.

Pony, ALA is for real

AUTHOR: Curt - (U.S.A.)

It's in the Alabama Triangle which is why you can't find it on maps. I know because I spent a long week there one day waiting for a special-order muffler bearing for a '99 Lamborghini Countach to arrive. I wish I had known about Peter at the time; I would have gladly whiled away my time at the Boom Boom Club, plying him with bottles of exclusive wines in exchange for hearing his stories.

Chrissy

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

The median income for a household in the city was $33,152, and the median income for a family was $43,851. Males had a median income of $31,685 versus $22,804 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,692. About 7.5% of families and 11.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.8% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.

Please check the references in you own town! All your numbers are lower than ours! I can't stop laughing. If you use that to insult me, what does that say for your self? Oh, and by the way...check our school systems Outstanding Ratings! NOW STOP POSTING TO ME!

Inabality to read leads to more faulty conclusions

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

jodi you reading skills are atrocious! Could you please point out where Mike says that Ash, OH does not exist? Don't twist words around - just cut and paste.

What do you mean when you say "Guess what Mike, maybe some more smaller towns have be produced since the 80's." Who produces towns?

Did you mean that smaller communities have been formed? Is this the way they taught you to write in the big city of Johnstown (where the told you about what is 'considered' to be the smallest town)? I think the educational system there may be lacking and would not be something to brag about.

Ash, OH does exist in reality, pony only exists in the mind of peter/leonard and you.

Read, comprehend, then respond. They should have taught you that in school rather than bogus geography. I also found this about the wonderful Johnstown educational system:
"For population 25 years and over in Johnstown

High school or higher: 79.6%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 15.2%
Graduate or professional degree: 3.8%
Unemployed: 2.9%"

Not many people there seem to move on to higher education - could that be a result of the non-factual information they teach there? Perhaps it's because the graduates there share the same writing and comprehension skills that you posess, thus they fail the entry exams.

I don't agree with what peter did

AUTHOR: Charles - (U.S.A.)

I, don'tagree with what peter food stamps are for people with low income jobs I don't use food stamps even though I am on social security benefits my mom works & provides food & everything I need, sense my dead beat fahter never paid his child support.

I, have to pay my share of living expenses with my social security money I qualify for food stamps I chose not to accept them cause my mother makes enough money, I did not have a fahter to work & support me I am not the only kid who is going threw this.

I, thank god has given my mother the ability to work & still help me cause my family on my mothers side didn't give a s**t about me my grandparents are the only ones on my mother side are the only one who helped me in my hardtimes.

I, don't agree with what peter did walfare & food stamps are for people who are low income people not for people who want to have a dinner party for there friends.

Chrissy hard at work doing research,

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

Boy Chrissy, you sure have spent a lot of time doing research on the computer since you got your internet turned back on. I know he found it, because he had the street name correct...good job Chrissy.

Don't worry Chrissy, I'm sure GIRLS would find you repulsive. Again you remember incorrectly. I did not marry at 16. I married at 18, I knew my husband since 16. Some Geritol might help you. I wouldn't say 9 years is MUCH older. Yet what I find the funniest is how the hypocrite Chrissy says he wouldn't watch a movie called knocked up, because he only watches movies with intelligent plots. Yet, just YESTERDAY he posts on another thread referencing to how hilarious someone writing for 'The Onion' was. Yes Chrissy, what intelligent plot lines. Oh, and didn't I tell you to stop posting to me.

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

in reference to your childish insults, you say "I saw last night in the new movie called 'knocked up' (something you'll probably never do to a girl)."

Well you are correct! I do not date or have sex with 'girls' - I only dated WOMEN until I married a woman 1 year older than myself.

If I remember correctly, you were married at 16 to a much older man. I assumed you had to married at that age because you were 'knocked up' by an adult. Don't try to equate your husbands lifestyle to mine.

Sorry I never saw the movie you refer to, I tend to watch movies with intelligent plots.

jodi's resources

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

The web site you refer to is the 4th return for Pony on Ask. I guess it was to inconvienant to post all of the information you found there. Let me do it for you, here is the part you left out:
"SEARCH RESULTS INCLUDE ALL COMMUNITIES WITHIN A 50 MILE RADIUS OF PONY:

SELECT AN ALTERNATIVE RADIUS: 5 mi. | 10 mi. | 20 mi. | 50 mi. |

Featured price ranges are approximate. Contact builders for exact pricing and availability.

Listings are not available in Pony,
but are available in these nearby cities:

Select City:"

Why are there no nearby cities listed, even within 50 miles of 'pony'? Did you go to the web site home page and look for homes in AL? If you had you would find that their list of cities in AL does NOT include 'pony' - why is that?

Poor research leads to faulty conclusions. Try a little harder next time!

P.S. According to the satellite view of Ash, OH there are quite a few building there. Why would you lie about that? Try telling the truth and you won't end up looking like a fool.

To Mike

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

I graduated in 1996 from Johnstown High School. They told us this several times when I was like in Elementary School. So that would be like the 80's. Guess what Mike, maybe some more smaller towns have be produced since the 80's. Really Mike, what would be my reason for making that up? Are you serious? I do think it's funny that so many people are spending their time researching the things I say...awe now I feel special.

Ash does exist, there is no way in hell you can dispute that to me. Guess what Mike, it's very hard to find on the internet, and yes it does exist. That was the point I was making. If you're not intelligent enough to find proof it exists on the internet, then I feel sorry for you.

I have no vendetta against Chris at all. In fact I find him amusing. You need to get your facts straight. I haven't posted ANYTHING to Chris in a LONG time. He suddenly started posting to ME on reports that had nothing to do with him. Just check the post regarding Charles, check the post regarding the Boom Boom room, hell even check THIS post...he has followed me or brought me up in all of them. I challenge you to find a post where I do that to him. The only reasom I posted to him regarding Charles is because he made an ENTIRE rip off report about him. That's INSANE. I was tired of seeing people bully someone that obviously has some problems.

I must say though, that I happen to come across a report from 2002 where Charles from Phenix AL, posted a response. I was shocked when I read how well written and genius some of the facts were...seriously, I was like blown away. I wish I could remember what it was regarding. When I think of it, I'll post it so you can see. My point is that I think Charles is a lot more intelligent than I think we all realize. I think maybe we have all been fooled by him. I think he is getting one over on us, by portraying himself as something he's not, in order to get his kicks by all of us responding. Hell, he's probably lonely, and probably laughing at all of us. I think Chris is doing exactly what Charles wants him to do. If you notice, he wouldn't even let the ROR regarding himself die...why?..he's laughing at us:)
P.S I think Peter may be getting one over on us as well, but Pony AL does esxist.

To quote Jodi

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

There's a town that's a few miles away from where I live. It's called Ash. On the sign coming into the town, it reads 'Ash, population 2' In school they told us that it's considered the smallest town in USA. It literally is one home on a corner. This town does not show up on map quest, or other of the same type of things. Yet, I know this town exists, I drive through it regularly. On addresses it shows up as Pataskala, the next town over. So Chrissy, you learn something new everyday. Just because you can't get it on map quest, doesn't mean it don't exist. The zip code would probably be that of the nearest town.
---------------
Ash doesn't show here. When did they tell you that in school?
Oh, I see "considered", as opposed to 'really'.

Top 5 Smallest Towns in America

1. Hoot Owl, Oklahoma: 0 citizens

2. Glenwood Plantation, Maine; Hove Mobile Park, North Dakota; Florida, Mississippi; Gannts Quarry, Alabama: 2 citizens

3. Lost Springs, Wyoming: 3 citizens (Zip Code: 82224)

4. White Rock, South Dakota: 6 citizens

5. Tenny, Minnesota: 7 citizens

Earlier in the thread, someone posted all the Piggly Wiggley's in Alabama. None existed in Pony.

You seem to have some sort of vendetta against Chris because he posted something negative about Charles in Phenix, AL and you're trying to prove him wrong at everything he says.

In this case, you're wrong. Get over it, and let this silly thread die.

Obviously you don't know how to search the web. I copied you an example DIRECTLY off the internet. Just because you found a report with the word 'Pony' in it, STILL doesn't mean it don't exist. How does that prove your point? Like I said Chrissy, were all in a conspiracy out to trick you into thinking there's a town called Pony out there...get a life. Oh, and the comment about "rear your children" I saw last night in the new movie called 'knocked up' (something you'll probably never do to a girl). It's a hilarious movie. web search for Pony, AL

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

Here is what I found from a web search for the nonexistant town of Pony:

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, is bringing attention to a case of alleged bestiality in Alabama. Henry Lewis of Sweetwater is accused of having sex with a pony.

According to PETA, at least two people witnessed the act about a month ago. A few days later, the pony was reported dead.

"Research shows that offenders who commit bestiality often go on to commit sex crimes against humans," said PETA's Stephanie Bell. "Our belief is that the community should be following this case closely because anyone capable of this kind of cruelty poses a definitive risk to the entire community."

PETA is urging the district attorney to prosecute Lewis vigorously and require mandatory counseling. An initial hearing in the case was scheduled for Wednesday.

Reporter: Mark Bullock

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

Did you bother to read the responses from 'Leonard' in the hotty toddy report? Are you really stupid enough to believe his so called rebuttal? I guess you are the only idiot who thinks that 'Leonard' is a different person than peter!

Let's look at 'leonard's' last posting:
I hate how people tell us how to live
It is obvious that the people posting negative things here are not from Alabama. Food Stamps in Alabama are a RIGHT. We have the right to get whatever those d**n Yankees want to give us. You people took away our moonshine, made us go to school with the coloreds, shot down George Wallace and now you expect us to pay for our own food? You people are crazier than a racoon with his nuts caught in the gears of a tractor. As for the 'Manhole' bar, it was started by employees from the Hoover Department of Public Works and is named for the fact they work in manholes. If you people think it means something else, then you are SICK SICK SICK IDIOTS. Jim Webb, the owner of the Manhole and the other bar over in Hoover called the Leather Eagle, is NOT a homosexual. Him and Marvin are just good friends. People who bad mouth Jim and Marvin are just jealous because they have the nicest trailer in the whole town. Get over it, haters! Pony is a nice place to live and 'rear your children'.

You believe this? You don't think this is a joke? You really do need to learn to read BEFORE you post. If 'pony' was a real town why don't you move there. You could fit right in.

In regards to your cute little personal story. Ash, OH is located just south of Johnstown near the corner of Morse Rd and Outville Rd. Funny how the 'smallest town in America' shows up on Google Maps but pony, AL dosen't. So, a town with 2 buildings is on the map but pony (with gay bars, piggly wiggly's, and a great trailer park) in nowhere to be found - interesting.

By the way, I didn't ask for your personal experience - just a Zip code or GPS coordinates. I guess you didn't READ that part either.

Example for Chrissy,

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

I see you have already posted on another thread from Pony Alabama (Hotty Totty). The OP was the same, but there is also a comment from someone else that lives in Pony Alabama. Yet, you still claim the town is made up. Why in the hell would 2 separate people make up a town, with the same exact city and state at that? Better yet, make up a report about a place in a town that don't exist. Use common sense Chrissy. Here is an example of an ad I COPIED from Pony Alabama:

Pony, AL Modular Homes for Sale and Modular Home Communities

Welcome to the Pony, AL Modular Homes listings section. Below is a complete list of modular home communities near Pony, Alabama. Select a listing for available homes, models, floor plans and community details. You can also contact the modular home manufacturer directly for brochures and additional information.

Now Chrissy, you can go to ask.com yourself and see several of these adds.
Let me guess, your answer is that ask.com created a big conspiracy against you by creating several adds for a false town so that Peter can post it on ROR. We're all in the conspiracy together, ask.com, google, Leonard, Peter, all the adds on the internet, and me....all just to trick you Chrissy...awe, you must feel special:)

Chrissy got his internet access turned back on!

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

YOU don't have your facts straight. Pony Alabama DOES EXIST. Just because you can't find it, doesn't mean it's not real. Life does exist outside of your four little basement walls Chrissy. To compare "references" about fairies on ask.com, to facts and events happening in a town is so far off base. I'm embarrassed for you!

Jodi - Time for a reality check!

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

Jodi, before you call someone a hypocrite you might want to do a little fact checking. Just because you find references to "pony, AL" on ASK.COM does not mean it exists. You could also find references to little green martians, fairies and elves. Do they exist? After all it posted on the web so it must be true - right.

Reality check time - go to google maps or expedia. Search for Pony, AL. And what do you find - NOTHING! Or if you want to see it on paper get a map of Alabama, huh it's not there either. If you are so certain that this town exists anywhere except in the distorted mind of Peter how about providing a zip code or GPS coordinates?

As to peter, he is obviously nothing more that a welfare cheat who steals money from hard working people. If I was working at that store I would have taken down all of the information I could and then called welfare. The money he steals would do much better going to someone who actually needed it.

Hey Peter, how many children will go hungry tonight so that you can have a 'dinner party' with money stolen from taxpayers? If you had even the slightest bit of humanity you would realize how ashamed you should be. I guess blaming other is easier than a little introspection.

How do you know there isn't a Pony Alabama?

AUTHOR: Micheal - (U.S.A.)

I used to live in the country and live in small communities that had names but the mailing adress was for cities and towns miles away. The last city I was in was named similarly to another town in the state that did have a post office.

I remember never being able to map quest directions from my old place cause my community didn't appear online or on most mapping services. I'd have to use nearby towns and cities that were listed.

THERE IS NO SUCH TOWN AS PONY, ALABAMA

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

There is no such town, so this thread sounds like a bunch of horse #%&* to me, however I want to put my 2 cents into this one for sure.
I am a hard working person, educated, single, no children, with a pretty good career, and a career I am trying to start on the side. However RICH I am not!!!
When I had cancer I was laid up for 17 months and did not work. Short Term Disability pay is a joke. I got 72.00 a month in food stamps and you better believe I bought the choicest most expensive food in the store.
I still wish I could get them legally, of course I am way over the income range now, especially since I do not have dependents, but I do feel the government likes to rip people off so therefore I have a friend that sells me food stamps for half the face value. She gets the cash she needs and I get my groceries for half price.
FRAUD you say, HECK NO, ITS SURVIVING AND all the people that responded to this thread about their tax dollars, just start ripping off the government any way you can, then you can stop complaining because I don't feel a bit GUILTY!!!!!

Stop the madness!!

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

I cannot believe all the personal questions and attacks being thrown my way. For all of you who MUST know, I was in a tragic accident last year at the sausage factory that I own. I lost my right leg and now have to wear a wooden prosthesis. So understandably, I am unable to continue my line of work, and being exclusively trained in the sausage industry, I am not very marketable for other fields of work. I did try to operate a hot dog stand, but alas, I had difficulty standing in my booth all day long with only one good weight-bearing leg. I am currently taking a training course for a rather exciting job that I can do sitting at a desk. But, until then, I rely on food stamps to make ends meet, and the kindness of strangers to help me get through the dumpy road of life. I would appreciate a bit more compassion from those who are more fortunate, and would hope that the personal attacks and bashing will stop. How about some sympathy for an elderly disabled man ...

Wine?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

This is a fun thread. It's compltely bogus, but fun all the same.

Having worked as a checker in a major grocery store chain, I can say that it would be impossible for Peter to buy wine with food stamps (or EFT/Vision/Whatever they call it now) as the computer does not allow it. When you hit the total key and pay with the card, the computer automatically figures out what items are foodstamp elligible (it takes out alcohol, prepared 'hot' food, tobacco, non-food items such as cleaning supplies, etc.) and asks you to pay the rest with cash/check/credit card. Peter can claim to be a rule-breaking maverick, but unless he has the ability to hack into the Piggly Wiggly point of sale computer system and change those rule codes for food stamp items, he's not using food stamps to pay for his wine. Period. End of discussion. It's impossible.

Anyway, aside from that...

This thread does bring up an interesting debate. Although I have no evidence to back it up, I really take exception to the post saying that most military families receive food stamps. I know that some do, especially in the pay grades of E1 - E4, but once a Soldier with dependents reaches E-5 or so, he's pulling in about $33,000/year with $12,000 of that being tax free (housing and food allowences). That's more than I made as a first year high school teacher, and I had to pay for my own health insurance. The argument can be made that the majority of the military is made up of paygrades E-1 thru E-4, but at the same time the argument can also be made that the majority of those pay grades are single with no dependents, thus eat in the dining facility for free.

Anyway, when I was working in the grocery industry (a horrible 2 years of my life, but I had to get through college somehow) we used to debate on the whole food stamp thing. Having observed it first hand, my opinion is that most of the folks who get food stamps really need them. The store I worked at was frequented by lower-income individuals, and I would estimate that 96% of them used their foodstamps to carefully purchase items that would go a long way toward feeding their families (lots of hamburger, pasta, ramen noodles, etc.)

Occasionally there would be an individual who would purchase more expensive cuts of meat and seafood, but as food stamp funds were finite (I can't remember, but I think that a family received somewhere in the area of $200/month in food stamps), my thought on that was that they probably 'saved' for a while in order to afford the luxury. If the USDA is not going to limit the scope of items available with food stamps (like they do with WIC), then it's none of my business what the person buys with them, as long as he/she is not commiting fraud. If the person is fraudently receiving this benefit, however, then that's another story.

No, of course Hotty Toddy and his buddies were not in attendance at my dinner party! Why in the world would I invite a thieving group of thugs to my lovely home for an evening of fine dining and dancing?! Your question is abhorable -- and has nothing to do with the situation at hand.

To the uneducated Linda ...

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

Actually, Linda, if you read my post again, you will see that I was complaining about an INDIVIDUAL, not the entire company (as was the person in the Walmart post). In fact, as I stated, the majority of the people in the store were helpful.

That was a clever way of you to try to throw some more conflict in the fire, but alas, you are wrong once again. May I suggest reading and COMPREHENDING both posts before you try to deduce any common motifs or similarities, if any do exist.

Furthermore, your personal opinions are just that -- your personal opinions. They do not matter to me. I happen to be very well educated, much moreso than you, as evidenced by my writing ability and your, well, lack thereof. So next time you want to call the kettle black, why not take a good long look at yourself in the mirror first.

the truth prevails!!!!!!!!!!!

AUTHOR: Linda - (U.S.A.)

Peter, I never said it was against the "law" I did however say it was not "allowed" by the government to use food stamps to purchase wine. Please see this website for eligable food items and then tell me I didnt catch you in a lie!!
fns.usda.gov/fsp/retailers/eligible.htm
and now let me refresh your memory on something....

Most stores will never refund shipping charges, PERIOD. The fact that Walmart does this at all nothing but EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Why bash a "policy" that benefits the customer? I find it amusing that you not only refer to it as a "stupid policy" but also are advising others as to ways to take advantage of and get MORE from this already generous company..... remember writing that little tidbit about a walmart complaint that you commented on???...shouldnt you practice what you preach??!!!!

And no I do not believe you should only eat mac & cheese and hamburger, I think you should educate yourself to the point of getting a decent job so you can "buy" whatever food you want with your hard earned money and not rely on the government to feed you!!!

People be real.

If somebody was setting up a high end party using food stamps...Thats not the intent for food stamps..... Period!

While the cashier shouldnt have been rude..
She is rude in using foodstamps in a way not intended.

My own xwifes (1st wife)'s mother who made $100,000 a year would use my xwifes food stamps weekly... (giving my xwife $$$ for the stamps, wife then often used them for drugs, which was the reason for divorce).

Taxpayer or not, this person should have used food stamps for the regular items, and paid for the luxury items.

Though not illegal, I would have been rude to her as a customer too.

Its not jealiousy btw, its down right wrong (though not illegal, it should be).

Plus, why go to piggywiggly... around here the last time I saw a piggywiggly, it was a substandard low quality store.

All these people are just jealous of you, Peter

AUTHOR: Timothy - (U.S.A.)

Peter,

Those people, and all the people on here who think they know what they are talking about, are just jealous of you.

I know exactly where you're coming from. Food stamps are for FOOD, and you were buying FOOD, so what's the problem?

I ran into the same issues when I was in law school. You see, as a law student, it's expected that you will "entertain" every now and then.

Unfortunately, the payments on my Audi were so expensive, especially when coupled with the money I was spending on scrath-off tickets and "happy endings" in massage parlors, that I had a hard time even affording food for my family. So I HAD to get food stamps.

So then, when I would have to have a wine and cheese party, I would get dirty looks because I was buying fresh caviar and imported cheeses with food stamps. I would explain to the people "well, what am I supposed to do? I spent all of my cash benefits on the chef and dj!"

But they would still judge me.

Stay strong, brother. Welfare is there for people like you and me to USE it.

If other people get mad because you have food stamps, they're just jealous.

The food was wonderful, as was the company and atmosphere. The jokes you told were hilarious! Much better than my bragging about returning items to stores without receipts! Some of those places hire such suckers!

BTW, I just received my food stamps, and plan on a "game night" party. Are you interesting in attending?

Such animosity!!

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

I hereby declare that I do not appreciate the negative comments from some of you people. How about showing a little compassion instead of jealousy? Just because I can afford to eat good food and you can only afford hamburger does not give you a right to be so downright nasty.

To the broad who claimed that it is "against the law" and therefore "impossible" to buy certain items with foodstamps, I ask her, does she actually believe that? Has a store NEVER broken the law before, whether intentionally or not? This is the first time I've heard of such a "law" and have never had my purchases declined due to the nature of the items. This woman is probably one of the jealous ones who think I should only be allowed to eat Kraft mac-n-cheese and hamburger. Oh puhlease!!

And now some fool is saying that I am "not old enough to purchase alcohol"?? Care to back up that statement with some evidence, buddy? I am cracking up as I'm sitting here, a man of my age, "not old enough"?? ROFLMhairyAO

To the nice gent who wondered how my dinner went, it was quite a pleasant affair, thank you for asking. A bit on the lavish side, my dinner guests had such a lovely time, and it is still talked about by all.

Everybody! Get Real, Please.

AUTHOR: Lydia - (U.S.A.)

First of all, I think the comments were deilberately planted to cause a negative controversy.

But let's just wy that his person really did go into the Piggle Wiggly to buy "luxury" food items with their food stamps. I've ben a caseworker for over 20 years, so let me give you some facts before you go off the deep end.

1. Most people who receive Food Stamps are employed and therefore taxpeyers or living on Social Security or VA pensions and were at one time taxpayers.

2. Large numbers of military families are Food Stamp recipients. In fact, MOST of them are.

Don't be so hasty to condemn someone for buying a luxury item with their Food Stamps. There are married couples who want to celebrate an anniversary or a wife preparing a special dinner for her huband returning from Iraq that are in supermarkets today - right now - buying something special for a loved one.

Several years ago when they still had paper Food Stamps I ran into one of my clients - a disabled Nam Vet - at my local market. He and his buddies from his unit get together once a year for a barbecue and he was buying steak. Somebody in line behind me started bitching about the steak when they saw the stamps. they said that people should only be allowed to buy hamburger with Food Stamps. Even when I pointed out that steak was on sale and was actually less the hamburger, they didn't care. Even when I pointed out that he was a Vet he didn't care! Steak was just too good for the likes of someone on Food Stamps.

Please don't be like that idiot in the supermarket, and don't jump to conclusions.

Color me surprised... finally a question of intelligence

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

Yes, I would be glad to tell you how I paired my wines. First, I selected a Zaca Mesa Viognier, to complement the honey ginger glaze for the lobster. I then selected a Sterling Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon to bring out the flavour of the filet mignon, which was garnished with a truffled mushroom ragout. Then .. I paired a Late Harvest Riesling with my flaming fruit compote dessert. It was enjoyed lavishly by all. Thank you for asking.

Peter, how did you pair your wines? I enjoy a nice Pouilly-Fume with shellfish. I recommend Ladoucette 2003. It comes from Loire France. And the great part is, it's only about 30 bucks a bottle.

With the filet, I prefer Robert Mondavi 2001 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. It's about 40 bucks a bottle, but an outstanding wine for such a great price.

Can you please let us know how you paired, and if your guests enjoyed it?

Since when is being generous a crime!!

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

Since when is being generous a crime! My food stamps are for FOOD -- not for a specific type, quantity, or quality of food. I am allowed the freedom to select the food of MY CHOICE -- not the choice of taxpayers, underpaid store clerks, or jealous persons like yourselves. If I want to spend all my foodstamps in one shot, so be it -- I am given a set amount each month and how I spend it is my business. Why can't a person who receives food stamps have friends over for dinner and treat them to a nice meal? Ever think that if I spend a bit on treating my friends to a nice meal, they will then turn around and do the same for me at their expense? What goes around comes around ... my generosity to others will help me out time and time again.

You are not a VICTIM

AUTHOR: Darrel - (U.S.A.)

People who TRULY need food stamps cannot afford to buy luxury food for their friends like you did. If you really needed the FOOD STAMPS, you would have carefully spent them on food that would benefit your family and not your guests.

I feel you are a scammer and want to play the VICTIM card. You won't find much sympathy except from other scammers.

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

I would think in this day and age that people would be a bit more sympathetic toward others, especially those in need. It is a shame that, judging from the plethora of responses, this is not the case.

I find it disturbing that people take a very accusatory stance, and seek to blame the victim (i.e., me) rather than offer helpful assistance. That is complete and total hogwash! Methinks the lot of you should attend sensitivity training class!

Some info on Alchohol and Tobacco on Food Stamps..

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Peter is absolutely full of crap on the issue of Alabama allowing wine on a Food Stamp purchase. If the store sold it to you, they broke the law.

The "Food Stamp" program is governed under FEDERAL LAW and the oversight comes from the USDA.

You cannot buy Alcohol, Tobacco, Prepared foods, or Household items.

The USDA allows states to administer the program, but does not allow any state to lower the requirements under Federal Law.

I also believe this post was a joke meant only to provoke response. He/She may be a disgruntled Piggly Wiggly employee.

I think I'll call that Piggly Wiggly and pose as a food stamp auditer and get the real story.

And to think I thought I was bad off.....

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

And to think, I thought I had it rough, with a severely disabled daughter under the age of 18, I make $4 dollars too much for her to get state funded medical insurance and I can't buy her insurance on my own because she is uninsurable because she is disabled. See the Cathch-22?

The original OP's post just makes me want to puke all over my keyboard.

He needs to get a job picking beets or something. I work a full time job in the work place and work full time at home taking care of my disabled wife and daughter.

The only time I get steak is when I buy a roast on sale because it's going bad and I slice it into steak sized pieces and stick them in the oven. The only lobster I get is what I see on the food channel.

While being poor is not a sin by its ownself, making yourself poor by not willing to wash dishes or pick beets is.

Just my 6 cents worth (2 cents adjusted for inflation).

Notify the news media and the organization that gave you the food stamps. They'll be interested in your story. ;)

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

The only big rip-off I can see in this posting is taxpayers being ripped off. I work hard & pay taxes like most people do and P from Pony, Alabama, parties at our expense. I am sure this person is just drop in the bucket for welfare fraud & abuse. P, you made a good example that welfare needs to be fixed.

As for the clerk; I have to agree, the clerk overstep his boundaries when he spat at you (if that is the truth). But insulting you, I say it's worth it.

Now don't get me wrong that you don't deserve disrespect. If you purchased item that are "appropriate", I'm sure there wouldn't be an incident.

"P"...You are abusing the system..and bragging about it!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

"P",

There are many people in legitimate need for food stamps who cannot get them. You are obviously engaging in fraud to get yours.

The taxpayers are not supposed to pay for your elegant dinner party. And, I know for a fact wine is not an authorized item. No alcohol or tobacco products may be purchased with food stamps.

My Mother could not get adequate public assistance when she became disabled, and that is the reason I had to come back to FL.

Your type makes me sick. I would have turned you in for re-evaluation of your need for food stamps. I would have taken the license # off of your car and made sure they know what you drive too.

Better yet, I think I would have followed you home and waited for your guests at your elegant dinner party. I would have met them on the sidewalk and told them you used food stamps to buy the dinner they are about to enjoy.

What difference does it make to you?

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

What difference does it make to you if I use my food stamps for an elegant dinner party, or for two weeks' worth of government cheese? I get a set amount to spend on food, and how I choose to spend that amount is really none of your business, nor does it affect you in any way. The issue at hand was how I was treated by the clerk -- not what I was buying.

Are you suggesting that poor folk should be restricted to eating cheap potted meat and government surplus cheese? That sounds like discrimination to me!

Furthermore, to the person who was complaining because he works so hard yet cannot afford filet mignon or lobster, my deepest sympathies go out to you. However, please do not displace your anger on me because I can afford these things and you cannot. Maybe one day you can too.

Just horrible

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

I agree, you were treated poorly. However, look in the mirror. The real victim is the tax payers. I know you will come back with some lame excuse that everyone deserves a nice dinner. No. Not true. Try again. I work hard, very hard, and attend college full time. I could not afford Maine lobster, shrimp and fillet mignon if I needed it. And yet, appearantly I am paying for it. And I dont even get to enjoy it. I hope you don't have children. Imagine the lesson you would be teaching them. You are a drain on our economy. Oh, and "fine wine" is not included in food stamps.

Now, before anyone goes assuming. I do see the benefit to food assistance. It is needed, for the short term, in some cases. For instance, as a young child my mother was single, raising two children going to school (college) full time, and working full time and yet still needed some help. For two months, we recieved food and housing assistance. Two months. This allowed my mother to save enough money from her wages to ensure we would not need it again. Did I always have everything I wanted? No. Did I always have everything I needed? Not always. But I had a good childhood and learned that nothing comes free, or easy. Grow up, get a job and stop relying on others.

I must say your report stunned me. While I agree that no one should be treated as you were, I must ask you a question. Why are my tax dollars paying for your "elegant dinner"? I was under the impression that food stamps were to buy food for people in need-not entertaining.

While I don't condone what the cashier did, your gall is beyond words. I don't know the rules for use of food stamps, but it does sound like your items should not have qualified. If they did, then maybe we need to change the rules.

I seriously doubt that "fine wine" is allowed.
