Back in July of 2006 I was searching the internet gathering information regarding online schools to obtain a degree. I searched several and was contacted by Kaplan University and spoke to a Marie from Florida.I explained I was just looking and wasn't ready to commit to any at that time. She called almost every day 2-3 times a day with offers from the University and vouchers that I could use toward my education. I was told that if I maintained a 4.0 in my first quarter that Kaplan would pay a portion of my second quarter tution. I was also told that I could apply for living expenses and was e-mailed all the forms and filled them out and sent them back to the correct department. This process was to take at least 4-6 weeks to complete before I was to be awarded my living expenses. My income was not adequate to apply for a citi-bank loan and I explained this to Marie on several occasions. She told me not to worry. The next day I received an e-mail telling me I was approved for a loan which I never applied for. I attended the classes from July 2006 until Oct. of 2006. I never received my living expenses and calls and e-mails to the school went unanswered during the 3 months I was in class and 6 months after. They sent me a bill for classes from Oct. 2006 to jan. of 2007, which I never attended and have the letter of withdrawl saved on my computer that I sent before the deadline. I received an e-mail in Oct. telling me not to attend classes, which I complied with. Then in May of 2007 I received a letter from Pinnacle Group stating they represent Kaplan and are trying to collect a debt for Oct.-Jan term. I sent the denial letter to them within the 30 days and they stated they never received it. I have since sent them my e-mails and letters that I wrote to Kaplan stating I with drew before the deadline and did not attend classes. I have not heard anythign since. This school is a complete rip off and state they never told me I could get living expenses. Well Why do I have all the forms then? I am refusing to pay the 2600.00 they are asking for since I never attended classes that they are charging me for. Someone needs to stop them and file a class action suit against them We should not be ripped off for trying to better ourselves.
