Never Use Credit Cards At Restaurants Or Pizzerias

AUTHOR: Whistleblower - (Canada)

POSTED: Saturday, April 04, 2009

I too made the mistake of using a credit card to pay for pizza. This was a pick up order and I was charged an additional $3 without my consent and knowledge. I just happened to call the credit card company(TD visa) to check on my billing due to the fact that the restuarant did not give my a customer copy. The reason being, is the clerk(who also owns the restuarant) claimed that the copy wouldn't come out of the machine.

She even tried to make me feel bad about not giving a tip. Since it's not a sit down restaurant, I simply went to pick up the take out order, why should I give a tip? I've already paid them for the food I ordered.

She also told me that the credit card billing service does this automatically. That is a "PURE" lie. They have no right to do that.

My advice to anyone reading this, is to "NEVER" use a credit card while going to a resturant. They depend on people not noticing this little extra charge when they receive their credit card bill. Use cash to pay for pizza delivery or even at a sit down restuarant.

I'd spit in your pizza.

Just stop ordering from them. If you don't tip, the drivers don't want your business anyway.

You should put the exact amount you are approving for on the credit card slip

AUTHOR: Rjoh - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 17, 2009

I am a driver for Pizza Hut. Whenever I give a customer a credit card receipt to sign I ask them to put the exact amount they are approving for for their and our protection. This often gets me a tip because the person did not see the space provided for tips. If the person decides not to leave a tip at least they are aware that they are not tipping hopefully will feel some guilt if the service was good..

#2 UPDATE Employee

sounds like credit card fraud

AUTHOR: Jeremy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 14, 2009

Kruzzin,

There are charges called "delivery charges" that are added to delivery orders to help with the cost of gas. These charges also go towards processing and uniforms and such. This is already added to the total of your bill. What you are stating is that there was a difference between the CC slip that you received from the delivery driver and what is shown on your bank statement. That difference was $3. That charge was added after the authorization was processed for your credit card. The only amount that you are responsible for is the amount that is shown on the signed credit card slip. Sounds like someone at the store level added that $3 tip bc they felt you didn't leave a sufficient tip or some other reason they come up with. You need to contact the store again and ask to see the signed CC slip that you signed and ensure that it is corrected, either by refund or some other means. I am an Assistant Mgr at my store and have seen this happen. We had a shift leader add tips to many CC's bc they needed money. It is credit card fraud and is a federal offense. That mgr is no longer working for the company and never will.

As for Joe, surcharges are added to the bill before the customer is given a total. NOT after. If this is being done, then there is some illegal activity going on.

THAT "EXTRA COST" IS STANDARD PROCEDURE SINCE ABOUT 1994 WHERE MY BROTHER WORKED

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

MY BROTHER WORKED AS A DELIVERY DRIVER FOR PIZZA HUT FOR ABOUT THREE AND HALF YEARS IN 1992- 1996 AND THEY WERE HAVING A REALLY DIFFICULT TIME HIRING DRIVERS. THE CUSTOMERS WHO WANTED HOME DELIVERY WOULD OFTEN NOT TIP AND THE PRICE OF GAS WAS VERY HIGH.

TO GET MORE DRIVERS AND TO HELP THEM OUT WITH THE COST OF THEIR GASOLINE, OUR LOCAL PIZZA HUT -- I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THE POLICY OF THE ENTIRE CHAIN OF RESTAURANTS OR NOT -- WAS TO PUT A $1 SURCHARGE ON EACH PIZZA WHICH WOULD THEN BE REBATED BACK TO THE DRIVER AND IT WAS A HUGE HELP IN CASE THE DELIVERY CUSTOMER DID NOT PAY.

SO MAYBE THE PRICE IS MORE THAN $1 SURCHARGE NOW, ABOUT 12-13 YEARS LATER!

IT IS NOT A RIP OFF AND IT SHOULD BE EXPLAINED SOMEWHERE ON YOUR BILL OR ON YOUR MENU. O DON'T KNOW BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE PIZZA DELIVERED.

BUT SINCE THERE IS A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE DRIVERS TO DELIVER THE PIZZA HOT AND FRESH AND THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL KINDS OF DRIVERS AND WEATHER OUT THERE --IT IS ONLY FAIR THAT THE DELIVERY CUSTOMERS PAY THEM FOR THE WEAR AND TEAR ON THEIR PERSONAL VEHICLES AND FOR THEIR GASOLINE AS WELL AS FOR THEIR TIME.

ITEMS IN A CONVENIENCE STORE TYPICALLY COST A LITTLE MORE THAN A REGULAR SUPER-MARKET TYPE STORE BECAUSE IT IS EASIER AND FASTER TO USE. PIZZA DELIVERY IS LIKE THAT== IT IS A SERVICE AND IT IS A CONVENIENCE FOR YOU TO CALL IN AN ORDER ON THE PHONE AND HERE IS A DELICIOUS PIZZA READY TO EAT DELIVERED TO YOU IN YOUR OWN HOME!

PIZZA DELIVERY IS A GREAT CONVENIENCE AND SAVES YOU TIME.

SO YOU SHOULD PAY A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA FOR IT!
