I signed up for a membership at Planet Fitness over 2 weeks ago. I signed up online and was directed to call the facility the next day to set up a time to meet with the trainer and establish a workout program that would work for me, as I am new to working out in this setting. I was lead to believe that I was simply filling out paperwork, and was not told that I would be working out at that time. After the session, I was given the trainer's schedule with the times he would be available.
On the first two days that I was available to work out, I was told the trainer was out with a back injury and instructed to call back in a couple days. When I called back, he was not available when I was told he would be. So, I called again... same story... so I called on the next day that I was available to come in and established that he would be free in the evening when I got off work, after his class ended. I went in, spoke directly to the trainer and was told he wasn't available, that he had another class. I was feeling frustrated and tried to ask when he would be free, and that I had been trying for two week to meet with him. He became defensive and rude and said that he "might" be available in an hour. I felt it was unreasonable to wait an hour on a "might", so I left.
Feeling frustrated and disrespected, I called back the next day to cancel my membership. I was told that I had to fill out a form. I nquired about a full refund since I had not done anyhing with my membership yet. I was told that they do not give refunds. So, I spent over $40, only to get the run around. Therefore, I see this as a rip-off.
I am not speaking for the whole company, but this particular franchise did not present any kind of care and concern for me as their customer. I realize that I am only one customer out of many, but feel I should have at least been treated with some respect in regard to my own schedule and availability. This facility is open 24 hours, and has only one trainer who does not work weekends. Had he made an attempt to actualy schedule an appointment, and showed some care and concern, I would try again to find a time that works so that I can get started, and then proceed on my own.
My advice to anyone who is considering a membership with planet fitness is to see the facility, visit with the staff, and check the availability of the trainer. My mistake was assuming that because they are open 24 hours, that they could accommodate my schedule. Although their mission statement on the website says...

I feel this facility is in complete violation of their mission statement. They did not make a newcomer feel comfortable, or like I belonged.
