I called Sprint billing. They told me that Playphone sends out a text message and, if unanswered, causes a billing of $14.99 PER MONTH!!! onto your phone bill. I was astonished, but the Sprint representative told me that he knew EXACTLY what happened because they had done it to him, too.
Sprint should block ALL PLAYPHONE billing invoices immediately because this is clearly fraud-- yet Sprint seems to be going along with it. They advised that the charge would be taken off my bill and that Playphone would be blocked from ever texting me again-- however, if they KNOW about this, why do they let these invoices wind up on customer bills when from the git-go, they knowi ts a scam and fraud?
Come on Sprint-- protect your customers and put an end to this NOW. Playphone is a rip-off in this practice, and it should be stopped immediately-- maybe by a class action lawsuit from everybody they have done this to.

Clarification of Services & Status

With that said the grade issued by the Better Business Bureau is an earned grade thanks to the hard-work put forth by the team in Canada and PlayPhone. We diligently followed the MMA Guidelines which are guidelines created with the requirements of the carriers to protect our mutual customers.
As of early 2012, PlayPhone is no longer offering mobile customization services. We regret that this individual is claiming to be an ex-employee of PlayPhone and has misinformed the public about the services provided and the current status of these services through this post. If they were an employee of PlayPhone, then we are sorry to see that they would devalue the earnest efforts which made to by our customer service specialists and internal team to provide customers with support and quality service, thus earning the high-rating at the BBB. As an employee of PlayPhone I have been never approached by a co-worker with these concerns and would welcome hearing from you directly.
The PlayPhone team is here to help you with any questions you may have. Please feel free to call us Monday- Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST at (877) 365-4646 or visit our community on www.playphone.com/support.
Playphone uses little scams like this to get $10-$15 out of every sucker (sorry) they can hit.
While on the phone with them, ask what services you paid for and how you can redeem them - only because it will be funny since their services don't work more than half the time and they literally didn't know how to use their own billing systems and were not able to keep track of who signed up and how.
Playphone is a scam that targets non-techsavvy folks. There are likely thousands of people out there right now that are being charged by Playphone monthly and don't even know it because they don't look at their bill :-(

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns about your subscription to a powered by PlayPhone portal. We ensure that all powered by portals are compliant with the MMA Guidelines*, which contain wireless carrier policies from companies such as Sprint and regulatory guidance to ensure that customers are protected.
One of the guidelines requires that a subscriber Double-Opt in before a subscription is initiated. This double-opt in process requires a subscriber to use a password which is sent to the requesting device. The password is only sent to the requesting device, thus ensuring that only the device holder can subscribe the device to the service. Once the password is received, the subscriber must enter the password into the website and accept the terms and conditions before the service can begin. This process ensures that only the individual who has possession of the device can subscribe to the service.
Our customers are our most valuable asset and we strive to show this through our services and products. The Better Business Bureau has awarded PlayPhone the highest rating, A+, because of this. Please accept our sincere apology for the miscommunication that occurred during your call with the Sprint representative and any inconvenience this may have caused you. Feel free to contact us directly should you have any further concerns or need assistance by calling, 877-312-7002.
