July 10 I was approached by a Justin X and lured into subscribing to 3 years of 2 magazine subscriptions! I had been heading to Walmart to cash my check from work and Justin X stopped me as I was entering the building. He told me he was doing research for school and asked if he could ask me a few questions. I agreed and he asked about 5 questions, then asked me about what magazines I read.  He handed me a sheet with a list of magazines and I told him I liked the Shape and Hot Rod and he filled out a receipt for me.  Then he insisted I pay him cash on the spot for my order. I told him I didn't have any and noticing my check in hand, he told me I could cash my check and pay him. He even followed me inside Walmart so I would give him the money! I cashed my check, and he took $105 from me and left.  When I returned home and told my husband, he insisted I cancel the subscriptions immediately, but when we went back to Walmart, Justin X was gone.  On the back of my reciept was a cancelation form that read "to receive a full refund, the completed cancellation form must be post-marked prior to midnight of the third business day" and that no phone or email cancelations were accepted.  It also stated, that within 10 days of the cancelation form being received, I would receive my refund.  I immediately filled out the form and mailed it in the very next morning - July 11.     


 On August 6, I had still not received my refund - now 26 days since I had mailed in my cancellation form.  I sent another letter to PAA along with copies of my cancellation form, and envelope that it was sent in, dated July 11, as well as my cell phone number for them to call me at.       


On August 17, I still had not received my refund, nor a reply to my letter - now 37 days since I had sent in my cancellation and 11 days since I sent the letter. I found a number written small on the receipt and called it leaving a message with the detail about my order, sending my cancellation, sending my letter, and that it had been over a month now.      On August 18, I called again and spoke with a lady (I believe Amy) and she took my information and told me she would call me the next day with the status of my refund.        On August 21 - not receiving a call back - I called PAA and left another message.       On August 24 - not receiving a call back - I called PAA and left another message asking them to call me on my cell as soon as they receive my message. That night, when I got home from work, there was a message on my home phone (the number I had used earlier that day) that my refund had already been mailed and that I should have received it 'today' or by the next day.     


On August 26, I still had not received my refund so I called PAA.  The lady that answered told me I would have to wait another week for my refund as they were switching banks.  Furious, I told her I wanted to speak to her manager.  A lady named Kelly got on the phone.  She told me that everything was frozen for at least 10 days while they switched banks. I asked her why I received a message on August 24 that my check had already been mailed if it hadn't, and she said she didn't know.  She said she could mail me my refund, but I wouldn't be able to cash it or anything as they are switching banks. I told Kelly that I want her to mail me a money order then, especially since they should have mailed it back on August 17 when first contacted them about it, and that it was now almost 2 months after the fact that I cancelled and their cancelation form states "within 10 business days" I will receive my refund.  Kelly told me she would call me the next day to let me know she had mailed my refund/money order.    It is now 6:10pm on August 27 and no, Kelly did not call me at all today.  I just called and left a message for Kelly at PAAs' number to call me tomorrow to let me know that she has mailed my refund as she promised.     I plan to call them EVERY DAY until I receive my refund!

Yay! Check 3*92 has posted to my account without a glitch.  I returned check 3*26 Certified so I will know that PAA has received it.  53 days since I cancelled, 33 days sent I mailed the letter, 15 days since I first called, and 8 days since I was told I had been refunded.  And their cancellation form states "within 10 business days.   I will let you know when I receive note that PAA has received the returned check 3*26.

Update August 31

August 31:  I received two checks separately in the mail from PAA. I deposited check 3*92 and will be returning check 3*26.  I have not received a check 7*7 of which Delonda had stated was one of the two checks sent to me (I had already assumed that check was never sent and these two checks I have now, were sent right on top of each other).  Either way, I received my refund and have deposited it ...                    52 days since I cancelled, 32 days sent I mailed the letter, 14 days since I first called, and 7 days since I was told I had been refunded.                       And their cancellation form states "within 10 business days.                    Now to see if the check posts without a hitch ...

Update on August 28

Today, on August 28, during my lunch hour, I received a message on my cell phone from a Delonda at PAA - mind you I specifically stated that my message was for Kelly and that Kelly was suppose to call me back.  Delonda said I was refunded twice and that I COULD CASH check 30*2 in the amount of $105, but COULD NOT CASH check 7*7 in the amount of $105.    Today is 49 days since I mailed my cancellation.  Might I remind you, there claim is ON THEIR cancellation form states that "upon cancelling this transaction, a refund will be issued via company check within 10 business days following all verification processes."  It is 49 days since my cancellation,  21 days since my mailed letter was sent to them, 11 days since I first called PAA, and 4 days since I was told my refund had already been mailed to me.      I will keep you posted whether I receive either of these checks and what happens after they are cashed (ie. whether they are bounced, cancelled, etc).
