*Author of original report: In response to the person who thinks I'm an idiot
*Consumer Comment: As usual
*Consumer Suggestion: I suggest the OP uses the actual post office next time.
*Author of original report: Wow the response the Owner gave to the BBB
*Author of original report: In response
*General Comment: Parcel Post
*Consumer Comment: Do the Postal Annex refunds apply to all locations for their shipping markups?
*UPDATE Employee: We're very sorry....
After ordering some food next door, I started thinking why did it cost so much. I looked online on USPS.com as well as called them and it would only have cost me $26.23. So, I went back into the store and asked how did he calculate the price and if I could have a detailed receipt that showed how he came to the price.
He told me no, he is sorry but he cannot do that. That yes they do charge more than the post office, but not that much more. I said almost $20 more is a lot more. I asked for a refund since it had only been about 30 minutes and my package had not been sent off. He told me that he could not do that because he has never given a refund ever. And all sales are final. He then Told me it would be a felony if he gave me my package back.
By this point I was extremely upset and crying (I know I shouldn't have started crying but I couldn't stop the tears) because of how badly I had been taken advantage of. I asked to speak to someone else and he laughed in my face and said sorry but he is the owner.
He asked me to leave his store and I said I will when I get a detailed receipt of how I was charged and why it was so much more. He continued to say I must not be from around here (and was demanding to know where I was from) because I obviously do not know how California businesses are ran, that his rent is over $5,000 a month and so on about other costs he has. I told him it doesn't matter where I am from because you don't treat people like this.
He then told me that if I did not leave he would call the cops on me. I said what are you going to tell them? He said let's see "Disturbing the Peace". I told him to call the cops then, because all I am asking for is a detailed receipt for why I was charged so much. I was the only one in the freaking store besides the fed ex guy who was supposed to be out making deliveries but had been talking to the owner for the past hour. The owner then started laughing at me told me I was really starting to annoy him and that I was immature that I must be 18 years old or am I 12 years old.
That is when I started asking him how he could run a business like this, he told me maybe I do not need to mail packages there anymore. I said don't worry I won't. Wow you are complaining about having such a high rent and expenses for your business yet you threaten your customers and tell them not to come back. I now realize why he has no business and why the other time I went into the store there were absolutely no customers.
I then left the store and called the corporate office in San Diego at 619-563-4800. I was transferred to Chris whom I explained the situation to and was told he would call me back in the morning. (Which I am still waiting on that call).
I just thought everyone should know and be warned on how these independently owned franchises treat their customers and give all Postal Annexes a bad name. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau (which surprise surprise they are not listed as a BBB accredited place) as well as let everyone know through social networking and word of mouth how they treat their customers.
They are a rip off! Please do not waste your money! Just go to the regular post office, they will not overcharge you. If I wouldn't have been in the area I would have never used a Postal Annex.
I just pray my little sister gets her package in Kuwait because I do not trust this man with my package. And he refused to give it back to me and the corporate office assured me that my package would be delivered.
I have a tracking number that the owner gave me, but when I went to track it today it said that this package could not be tracked. I am so upset. He wouldn't give me my copy of the customs form either. Really starting to think I should have called the police on him.
