I booked a flight and a rental car through this site. You don't get to chose anything as far as flight times or connections or airlines. And you don't find out this information until after you have paid. Since my flight left at 6 am and I had to be at the airport at 5 am and I am 3 hours from the airport.... But I not complaining about this. It is a "just so you know".
I had an emergency at home and had to cut my trip short. I lost my return ticket (non-refundable) and had to purchase a new ticket which cost as much as the roundtrip ticket. Then I returned my rental cat 5 days early and have been informed that there will be no refund for that. And I was also informed that I was informed that this was non-refundable. Well, ya know what?? They don't tell you this until you have PAID!!
They are a terrible, terrible business. If you want a truly safe and relaxed vacation, go to a reputable travel agent or book directly with the airline and rental agency. Priceline is not reputable!! BAD, BAD company!!
If I can save 20 good, honest people from being ripped off as I was, I will consider my $500 LOSS not quite as painful. Some companies will work hard to help their customers and KEEP their customers. Priceline is NOT one of those companies!

As for the rest of your rebuttal, I'm not trying to be callous just educate people. Before inputting your credit card number and clicking "I agree to the terms and conditions" on any website, you should actually read the terms and conditions. In this case, you would have found out that you were getting discount rates at the trade off of them being non-refundable. You clicked that you agreed to those terms and went ahead with your purchase. I suppose you often sign your name to contracts without reading them too don't you? As for the name calling, I suppose I should expect that from someone who wants to blame everyone else but themselves when something bad happens. Tell me again how it was priceline's fault that you lost your return ticket? Did priceline send someone in your hotel room at night to steal it from you?

Your advice is sound though, if you can't handle non-refundable travel then use an agent. You will pay more, but it can bring you peace of mind. I'll stick to the cheapest airfare I can find.
