In May of 2011, I began receiving calls from many companies regarding loan modifications.  Job loss and sudden illness had put us in a bad situation with our mortgage holder.  A call from a Darryl Solomon from Freedom Legal Plans was somehow different.  He was compassionate, soft spoken and polite.  He explained all the wonderful things his company did and honestly, it went in one ear and out the other.  I declined help since my husband always warned me about scams.  Mr. Solomon called a few more times, and again, I declined.  Then watching TV one night I started seeing several ads from Freedom Legal.  I thought, wow they are advertising nationally. They must be for real. 

July of 2011 I took his call and started to listen.  He boasted that his company was NON-PROFIT and they help people with predatory lending, such as my loan.  Their services included a Forensic Loan Analysis that found nearly 80% of lenders filed incorrect paperwork.  They would also do a financial audit. Between the two, He was so certain that one of those audits would find something illegal. In addition, they had the luck of getting some of their clients a "paid in full" result.  I certainly didn't buy that bridge, but at 9%, I knew I needed a lower rate.  At that time I was weak and totally stressed so even though my husband said don't do it, Darryl was so convincing so I accepted his free help.  Well here it came.  Because I was in New York, I needed an attorney in my state on retainer. That attorney would be Litvin, Torrens & Associates.  That would cost $750 per month. The first $750 fee was withdrawn July 27, 2011.Since then, I have made numerous calls, sent faxes, memos and letters stating that I wanted to dissolve our relationship.  Each time, I got redirected to different numbers and told, "we are almost there, don't quit now".  The last time they had numerous "facts" about the errors my mortgage company made and how my interest rate was dropping to 4-5%.  Most times though, I had to beg just for a return phone call.  

Desperate for help, I finally demanded to call my attorney directly (even though I was to deal directly through Freedom Legal).  Since the attorney did not receive the $750, I could not cancel through them.  But they did tell me to call Meracord and they might help.  I did cancel through them but Prime Access managed to withdraw another $750 on October 1st.  After 16 months of promises, I am beyond devastated.  $12,000 gone, a husband ready to divorce me over my stupidity, and a mortgage company ready to foreclose.  Somewhere, somehow, I have to think someone out there can help me.
