An employee at our office received an invoice for $299.00 for a '12 month/23 issues of the print newsletter, 12 insider roundtables, 12 marketing Do's and Dont's, Marketers toolkit, and daily marketing updates.

The notice t hen went on to state that this was the 2nd notice and PAYMENT IS OVERDUE. I called on behalf of the invoice since the bill was under our company name. If you try to cancel your account using option #2 they put you in a voicemail and state 'we are unable to dial you back.' If you press 1 to sign up for a subscription then they pick up. A sassy female answered, asked for my account and invoice number. I indicated that no one from our company ordered this. She then asked if the birthdate they had matched the BD of the individual the invoice was made out to be. The crazy thing is the birthday was close, which made us think that they purchased a list from a credit bureau or application company. The lady said 'you should have cancelled the subscription when we sent the first invoice.' I told her we never saw a first invoice and that even if we had, we were not admitting to ever having ordered this garbage. She then said  that she would remove the charge and cancel the account, but that 'we should check with whoever at our HR department because someone had t o have given out identifiable information (DOB).

Anyone else have any idea how they obtained the DOB? We should start a class action against these people, but I'm not sure that we can because they didn't charge us, I'm just concerned they will continue to invoice us and potentially send it to collections, all from what they say was a 'verbal' agreement - there is no way they are legit. 1) We never signed up 2) we Never gave a DOB 3) they never sent a first invoice and 4) they are purchasing a DOB/name list somewhere that is likely unauthorized.

#1 UPDATE Employee

Date of Birth

AUTHOR: Hello1234 - (United States of America)

From my understanding when I inquired about all of this information myself, I was told the following:

All regular company information (Company Name, address, phone number) is gathered from the corporate office, and the information is then thrown into the computer systems for the outside offices to use.

The people who call the offices, use a script and must say it verbatim as all the calls are recorded for quailty purposes.  An example of something that is said is the following:

This is so and so from the xyz, I understand you are the person in charge of whatever there, is that correct?  The person says yes, and then you continue on.

After the executive who was spoken too confirms the company's mailing address, the correct spelling of both their first and last name, and their official title, the "invoice paragraph" is then gone into.  The invoice paragraph goes something like this:

(Using a website/newsletter combination as an example)

Sales Rep:  Ok, Great.  Let me tell you how your access will work.  I will send you an email in just a few minutes that will give you immediate access to the website, it will also include a user name and password for you.  If you need any assistance, feel free to call the 800# listed on the website, and we'll be glad to help you.  If you love it, which I'm confident you will, the cost will only be $299 for both unlimited access to the website and a twice monthly mailed news letter.  If you are not satisfied, and feel that is it not of value, just write cancel on the invoice we mail you in a few weeks, call the 800# or even email us, all the information is right on the website, and there is no further obligation for you.  But let me ask you (executive name) if you did find it of value, do you think you could work it into your budget or at least recommend it?

Person says yes

Sales Rep Replies:  Great!  Now just to verify that I spoke to you today and nobody acting on your behalf, I just need to ask you for the month and date of your birth, but not the year, like mine is (00/00).

This just points out that all the actual information that is gotten (birthdate, email address, etc) when the stuff is mailed out, is gotten directly from the executive spoken too on the phone, and noone else.

I must also add to this that a confirmation is always sent out whether it be via email or fax to confirm all the information discussed over the phone, including cost, sales rep information, company name, address, and corp number.
