A FEW THINGS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT Pro Scout or Proscout.
1) their 'scouts' have almost no experience- a few of the top execs do, but the kids they send on the road usually don't
2) their 'scouts' get paid huge commissions for anyone who goes to the convention from an open call they scouted- so they want as many to go as possible, but they 'weed out' the so-called ugly ones to give it legitimacy and make those chosen feel special i.e. mroe likely to shell out money to go
3) the conventions are a joke- they are used to sell photo packages (you get a mailing 2 weeks after signing up strongly encouraging you to pay hundreds of $$$ to use their recommended photographer), the agents ARE PAID TO BE THERE and often send assistants in their place who lie and use the name of the real agent and give out the agent's business cards
4) the agents ARE STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to pick as many people for callbacks as possible- if they pick too few they don't get asked back to another convention- they are told to ask people to callbacks and then a few weeks later say "they didn't have the look the clients wanted" so the customer feels like they got picked but then never get booked or signed to the agency
5) they have had to admit in court docs that they make almost every penny from convention fees. (and photography kickbacks, and the t-shirts and other junk they sell at the conventions). 92-90% of those who pay will NEVER GET A PAYING MODELING JOB. can you imagine if your business had a 92% failure rate!
6) you are there for 1 reason- to pay the convention fees to make david and his crew lots of money. if these guys were legit, they'd be working for real agencies as bookers or heads of divisions, not traveling around to sheboygan wisconsin in december to rip off unsuspecting teens and their parents.
7) THEY CLAIM THEY WERE STARTED BY THE WORLD'S TOP AGENCIES to find them talent- only 1 small problem- the best agencies say that is a LIE.....

My daughter and I attended our first PROSCOUT event in Columbus, OH the end of Sept. Not only did they deliver EVERYTHING they said they would, my daughter was signed by a major talent agent and has already had her first photo shoot. The agency did NOT SEND young reps, the PRESIDENT of the company was there and conducted the callbacks himself. She had only 1 callback and that's all it took. I sat and watched hundreds of people get turned away with no callbacks. If it were all about money....EVERYONE would have
a callback. In the initial selection stage, they chose ONLY 25 out of 350 people, AGAIN if money were the driving force then ALL would have been selected. The agency that signed my daughter has been in business for 26 years, has an A+ rating with the BBB and has ZERO complaints. It IS the real deal with contracts, commission and agents that are genuinely looking for talent. I thank PROSCOUT and VICTOR'S INTERNATIONAL for signing, my daughter.

We, too, enrolled our son in the acting boot camp offered in Hollywood by one of the ProScouts best speakers. It was a good experience for him and the coach also saw something special in our son. But rather than getting an intro to an agent we got an invitation for another boot camp and at $900 for 3 half days, we had reached the limits of our resources. ProScout workshops are clearly one of his major marketing tools. For the parent, ProScout and the independent boot camp are legitimate but not necessarily a smart investment. We moved to S. California because of our initial experience with ProScout and the boot camp and we discovered that there are alternative routes to acting development. For us, a first rate private school and the costs of several sports outweigh the uncertain value of another boot camp or another ProScout's event at $249.
Parents need to be responsible for their own choices. It is easy to project unrealistic expectations for one's child onto the ProScout service and label it a scam.
The agents are legitimate from the 8 call-backs, but a call-back doesn't mean much by itself. It is only a small step along a long and uncertain path. Agents will not attend because they are offered $200. That is a very modest honorarium; indeed, it is petty cash at the most. $1,000 for a speaker or workshop host is also quite modest. Check out what politicos get as guest speakers or some disgraced celebrity earns per public speech. I have been offered much more and I am neither a politico or disgraced celebrity.

I agree with you. Our daughter went to proscout in Dallas, TX in 2010 twice. She didn't get any call backs(she was 6) but we met someone there that was teaching an acting workshop that we took. We talked to us and he saw something in her and wanted to work with her. We went to his workshops basic and advanced in Hollywood. He help her so much and now she has signed with an agent and going on auditions. She has 2 commercials coming up and she is so excited. Sometimes it is not what you know but who you know especially in Hollywood. He saw something in her and believed in her and then we were lucky to meet him.

Pro Scouts is legitimate. It may not be an effective way to get one's child into modeling or acting. Of course, they want a lot of kids and teens to attend. But one has to understand that they cannot know what "type" or person a particular agency wants. Moreover, let's be real, the odds of getting a print or TV advertisement let alone a part in a TV show or movie are very very long. Lots of kids play Little League baseball or youth soccer but very very few make it to the professional level.
If I have a criticism of Pro Scouts it is that their events are a little boring and involve too much sitting especially on the first of their two day events.
Rip-offs are an American way of life. Having lived in many countries, rip-offs are sadly far too common in the U.S. But Pro Scouts is not one of the rip-off artists. This website provides a great service but consumers also need to have realistic expectations when hoping to get their child into the entertainment industry.

First of all, if it is a real company you would not have to pay ANYTHING. That is where ignorance runs rampid in this line of buisness. People will do anything these days to try to make there kids famous. If a modeling agency wants you THEY will pay YOU. Not the other way around. This is a big scam, trust me i am with a real modeling agency and i never had to pay a dime. I understand how you feel, before i was discovered i almost went to one of these. My daughter who is now 7 years old, went to the invitation in Dallas, Tx last year. She has been twice, first time we did have to pay about $800.00 plus hotel. The next time since we were coming back the price went down to $249.00. They did not force us to buy expensive photos, in fact they told us not to but to bring home photos that we took. My daughter did not get any call backs but she really didn't have any experience at this. We took 2 workshops there one with a head children's acting coach in Hollywood. We talked to him and decided to go to his Acting boot-camp. We went to the first one and then went back later to his advanced one. He was wonderful with my daughter, he has helped her so much. She is now taking dance,singing and guitar lesson(This is what she wanted) she is more confident and really is very impressive when she does her commercials and monologues. Her Acting coach has even helped us to obtain a local agent. She is scheduled for 2 commercials already. I know alot of kids come to these things expecting alot and alot go away with no call backs but they should at least come out of it with the experience to know what they need to do. Some are angry and lash out which lead to these accusations. By the way there was no selling of t-shirts or such only the workshops that were OPTIONAL. It cost money to run a convention like this, so yes there is a charge, that has to cover the room rentals, the people they get to come there and give workshops and the agents. Remember its Hollywood and it costs. But my family was very skeptical at first but we came out in a good place and the experience has helped my daughter in a lot of ways. So, I say to all of you that lash out and call this a scam, grow up. This may not be the thing for you or your kids.

We recently attended the Columbus event, and even before the event- the perosn named David who is in charge of recruiting, is very mis-leading, while trying to convince you to shell out your 800.00... He tells you its true talent/hard work, but when you see who is actually chosens for callbacks; you quickly realize its not that at all... They pick callbacks, based on agents needs, and this could be anything from a three year old who mumbles a song, or mostly caucasion kids who get modeling work, because that sells over minorities. Really not true talent, but LUCK... Even after we recieved a call back; we where promised work, or led to believe there would be work right away, but first we had to go to three FREE web-sites and upload a video... Guess what!? They are NOT FREE!!!! Agent will not do anyting until we pay these web-sites money, and we declined, because now it sounds REAL-Scammy- so no hear from agent- gee what a surprise. Another mother told me- proscout called her, and said her duaghter needs better pictures, and to go back to Columbus for pics- to the tume of 595.00 LOL, LOL They must get kick-backs from all this junk. Save your money, and take classes, and do local work in legit places. Doubtful any of those called from Proscout will be doing anything substantial in a few years. Its a racket, and this is why they travel around; kind of like a circus.

We went to a Pro scout event and now have a contract for Modeling with one of the best known modeling co. out there.
It was not the only offer we had from the event we had a 4 contract offers and went with the one who offered within 12 hours after the event.
I feel the people crying scam are the one who got no offers and you can not blame someone else for what you are lacking.

We recently attended a open call interview in San Antonio, Tx, and received a invite to attend the event in Dallas. We attended with our 6 year old daughter. We all learned alot took some of the workshops, one being with a top child acting coach. We will be attending his boot camp this summer for our daughter. She also attending a workshop by a star from extreme home makeover. Yes we had to pay for the event(like most events or conventions) She did not get any call backs at the time but later I received 2 emails from a agency in Dallas and one in LA wanting us to submit pictures and a video of her doing a commercial and monologue. They did not try to sell us some expensive photo package or anything else. I do know if we sign with any of the agents and they start sending her out for auditions then we will need better photos. But I have no complaints against ProScout but it is not for everybody.

One more thing about agents getting paid. The agents that hold the seminars and speakers get paid wheel-barrels full of cash.
They sell at the the big room speech to sell for their optional seminar.
Those agents make a living off of PS and other similar scams.

Yes, undoubtably PRO SCOUT is a scam. All the agents are paid $200 to sit and watch the participants for a couple of hours. I know i was one of them.
You get airfare, meals a free trip out of town.
All the agents are the very lowest around. The MC, Brian, (alcoholic) goes around name dropping Hanah Montana and some other names that never had anything to do with PRO SCOUT and they agents they pay. the casting agents are nothing more than scam artists. MTV they love to tout when all they do is reality dating show casting. PS website mentions CBS DISNEY and all that. Try calling the studio to verify that!, studio lawyers will have that removed immediately if they knew.
Complete waste of money for families. The organizers invite the agents that just shut their mouths and take the pay and free trip and meals.

Yes, undoubtably PRO SCOUT is a scam. All the agents are paid $200 to sit and watch the participants for a couple of hours. I know i was one of them.
You get airfare, meals a free trip out of town.
All the agents are the very lowest around. The MC, Brian, (alcoholic) goes around name dropping Hanah Montana and some other names that never had anything to do with PRO SCOUT and they agents they pay. the casting agents are nothing more than scam artists. MTV they love to tout when all they do is reality dating show casting. PS website mentions CBS DISNEY and all that. Try calling the studio to verify that!, studio lawyers will have that removed immediately if they knew.

I attended this convention twice, the second time in hopes that it wasn't a fraud and that maybe i was too young when i first signed up. The proscout convention costs around $500 or more plus hotel expenses, additional workshops, and photographs. They feed you lies that your going to make it to the top as an "actress" or "model" if you get discovered. This conventions focus is on modeling, and modeling alone. The only agent that showed up for acting if legitament at all was MTV..you can go to casting calls for reality shows on your own. The majority of schools in Boston are all frauds, and agents. I have had several agents and not one has ever landed me a job or even tried. I have wasted so much money, until i met this casting director i work with now whos from weymouth. She is the one person i have always trusted and hasn't fed me any lies. I have worked in several films, commericals, television, music videos all because of her alone and she hasnt charged me a dime. It is sick how they play with children, teens, and adults dreams and crush them like an ant on the sidewalk.

ProScout lands people legitimate agents and jobs

I've taken my daughter to ProScout. Twice. Both times she landed legitimate agents through whom she has booked great, high paying modeling and commercial work.
They also PROVIDE a photographer at their events whom actually charges MUCH LESS for some extraordinarly professional fashion shots than you would pay to get shots for your head shots/comp card if you were to enter the industry on your own.
In addition, their speakers are industry veterans who are knowledgable about the Business of Fashion and Show and entertaining to boot.
I would suggest that people looking into proscout do some industry research and see what the statistics are on working models and actors. You should only be entering this business if you're
1. Very lucky
2. Extraordinarly talented
3. Very, very serious about making it your career and infinitely persistent.
ProScout is money well spent.

At first I thought pro scout was a scam,but it isnt.My 15 year old son has two agents who are legitimate.He was picked by 6 people at proscouts in Boston.He has one agent in Boston and one in New York City. He was also picked by 3 in CA, but we did not persue those, as it is too far away and he is still in school.He also had one from Georgia.I admit there are alot of people there, and many dont get call backs, but for the ones that do it is well worth the investment.

I am an Office Director with TCT and know people at corporate. I know this report originated from the Castnet operation. Paul Shultz and Erin Cameron work closely together with Jay Wallace and have concocted these reports to discredit this site.
I was going to keep quiet about it until Monday when Alec told us he wanted us to file bogus reports on this site so that the media could not get ahold of customers. (When ROR tried to give the names of clients and former scouts they would get us instead.) This company is out of control and lawsuit happy. I would talk to the media but now ironically they have made ROR the only safe place to provide information.
I feel sorry for the scouts in the KCAL story because Alec told us that they had sued them and they are even suing the media that went undercover. I know there are others that think this bogus plan is so dumb, but we are forced to go along with it because we need a paycheck.
