 In August 2013 I rented a storage room at Public Storage on the Katy Freeway in Houston to store my personal home-based business supplies. I have paid my rent apr. one month early every month since then. Somehow, they did not credit my payment for January's rent that cleared my bank on 12-13-13. I wasn't aware until I received a late notice in mid-January. By the time the notice arrived to me, I had already made another payment, which cleared on 1-14-14 and was to be credited for my February rent. I spoke to the property manager, who spoke with the district manager. They never fixed their accounting error and credited my payment to my account, but they did take away the $20.00 late fee. Because they never correctly resolved the problem, the first of February I received another late notice, even though I was paid through the end of February. I provided them with evidence from my bank that my payments had been paid, but got no where with them. Their District Manager, Greg Anzaldua (phone number 713-621-9466 X3327) told me the ONLY way to resolve the matter was to bring them a printout of my ENTIRE bank statement to "prove" I'd paid them. I told him that my personal finances, outside of the fact that I had paid Public Storage as agreed, was none of his business and refused.

Today I got a storage room at another facility, went to Public Storage to move my belongings only to find out I have been locked out of my storage room - which is PAID IN FULL through the end of February. I am taking a day off work on Monday to try once again to get this resolved. I have spoken to the property manager, the District Manager, and to their Customer Service Department with zero success in resolving the matter. Although the property manager has been nice, the District Manager and Customer Service has been downright rude to me. After reading all of the complaints here I can only hope that a class action lawsuit is in the works against these criminals. Any attorney wanting to file a class action lawsuit against Public Storage is welcome to contact me.

You read much too much into my comment.  I not an uneducated, nor ignorant. I wasn't going to lose thousands of dollars worth of equipment and inventory over $74. I paid the $74 this morning and vacated my storage unit at Public Storage within the hour. 

My my primary concern is that the ONLY option I was given as recourse from the District Manager was to present my entire bank statement to prove that ONE transaction was paid; that is, the transaction paid to Public Storage. I provided proof, twice, that their payment was paid. There was no, "We will look into it, we will resolve it, give us time to fix our error." What there was was a request for information that violated my privacy, and that had nothing to do with their payment. When I said that I would not show them my entire bank statement, the District Manager hung up on me and proceeded to lock me out of my storage room. My problem with this scenario is that the District Manager indicated that this was this company's "usual way to resolve accounting errors". What about the people who don't have the $74? They, and their belongings are hostages of Public Storage unless they want their privacy violated. That's just plain wrong - and illegal.

Based onPublic Storage's inability to account for financial transactions correctly, the rudeness of their Customer Service department and the rudeness of their District Manager, I doubt that it would be difficult to find at least 25 people to claim that they have suffered at the hands of Public Storage. Spend about 15 minutes reasearching online, or save your time and check this website out; you'll find about 190 very dissatisfied customers right here.  I didn't say I was filing a class action lawsuit, again, I'm not uneducated. What I did say was that any attorney working on a class action lawsuit is welcome to contact me. I'm not looking for money, I am more than financially secure. At this point I could care less who gains financially, as long as such a scenario doesn't happen to someone else, especially someone who might not have the $74 that I was fortunate to have.

 If they did not post a payment correctly you are right that they need to fix their error and not charge you any penalties.

But this is your issue, so let me just say please stop the "Class Action Lawsuit" BS.  It does NOTHING for your report and actually makes it look like you don't have a clue.   Believe me I am not coming down on you, just want you to think about it.  A Class Action Lawsuit is the phrase of the uneducated, lazy, people who don't want to take action..so let me explain.

You don't just file a Class Action Lawsuit.  You first must file a regular case and then petition a judge to give it "Class Action" status.  In order to do this you must prove to the judge that there is a "Class"(group) of people that this has happened to.  Now if you get granted the "Class Action" Status, you get to go through what could be years of litigation.  But then the "payoff" comes. 

Now, I am sure you have heard of multi-million dollar settlements such as the ones against banks and are thinking "Oh yea..payday baby".  But the reality is that there is only two groups of people that make any money in these.  The lawyers involved will end up with a 7-figure payday.  The lead plantif, the one who got off their butt and went after them with the initial suit, got perhaps 5-figures.  Then what do you think each member of the "Class" got...they same 5 figures..nope, perhaps a few thousand..nope..a couple hundred...nope.  The average was about enough for a nice dinner out.

Oh and I forgot to mention one thing.  Because CA lawsuits are costly and their length of time the chances are that if you went to a laywer they would want several thousand dollars up front as a retainer before they even looked at your case.

The point.  If they are going against their contract and there is some error. You can file suit against them in small claims.  If you prevail you get what you are suing for as well as court costs.  The reason I point this up is because you may want to just pay them what they say to get your stuff out and deal with the monetary issues later.  Because if you don't they may have the legal right to sell it, and if they do..even if you are proven right in the end you won't get your stuff back.
