I agree with all the complaints in reference to Public Storage. This is a terrible place to store your personal items.

I also noticed a few things missing from my storage unit.

Recently this storage facility begin cutting the locks WITHOUT notice on the 20th of each month if the storage bill is not paid. They cut the locks then mail a letter saying "they noticed" the lock is off and then request that I put another one on. They noticed because they cut the lock (and yes I am missing things). If you read the other ripoff reports you will notice how quick they are to sell you a lock! ($$$). The policy changed AT THIS FACILITY in one month and NO NOTICED WAS SENT OUT! How odd they started doing this after the hurricanes hit the area(s)!

In my opinion, I would NOT rent storage spaces from Public Storage.

If you have items in Public Storage.....IF YOU VALUE THEM REMOVE THEM IMMEDIATELY! Calls/letters to the corporate office are a waste of time.

This company is a complete RIPOFF!!!!

#1 Consumer Comment

I had the same thing happen to me Aug 2005

AUTHOR: jydrocks - (United States of America)

The Public Storage facility in Hollywood, FL did the same thing to me. My lock was cut off and my Guitars and TV were stolen. They said someone came in the middle of the night and did it. I had insurance but the sentimental value can not be replaced.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Motion sensitive alarm

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

Suggestion if you store your goods anywhere...a battery operated, motion-sensitive alarm system and hidden camera that operates when it senses motion. Yep...a bit pricey to set up, but you will catch them in the act of pilfering your stuff.

Many times, they also have cameras operating and I would go down to the courthouse, file a small claim and supoena (spelling???) the tapes that they made for the time period leading up to your finding stuff gone.

Make sure you invite all the local media outlets to attend the court hearing too...and have a friend bring a video camera to the hearing and send a copy of the tape to the local TV stations(probably have to hide that too since the court likely won't allow it). Tell the storage place what you plan on doing and that you have invited the media unless they pay for your loss.

Last but not least for the future, put some heavy object on top of valuables that they wouldn't want in a million years. When they go to lift it to get to the goods, BINGO....you have their fingerprints in a place they should not be. Just make sure you don't move it if you find your goods disturbed...and TAKE PICTURES of the storage area (digital camera is easiest) inside after you put all your stuff inside so you have a record of how things looked. Take new ones each time you rearrange anything.
