Summary: Darin was extremely rude, yelled at me while delivering the items for mistakes he committed, threatened to throw my items away and eventually left my belongings on the street after extorting full payment
Darin and his wife were extremely nice on the phone/email while we were signing the agreement for him to pick up my couch and 4 boxes from Seattle. He picked up the items on time, loading them from my friend’s house into his truck, and said he was driving directly to San Francisco; he would let me know ~1hr before arriving.
Darin then calls me the next night saying he will arrive in 10 minutes—why when driving directly from Seattle to SF he couldn’t give me more notice is a mystery. I rushed and was at the delivery venue before him.
Darin calls me YELLING, saying the delivery address is on a hill that he couldn’t access, blaming me for not informing him. I calmly told him that (1) he had delivered to a friend of mine across the street on the same hill before (2) this is San Francisco, he should’ve expected it (3) he had the address to research on Google maps and most importantly (4) he never asked me.
Darin frantically continued yelling—I told him to wait up and met him in person at the bottom of the hill. He was frantic saying he was blocking traffic and needed to leave the items on the street and drive away. He yelled at me for not having friends to carry the items—though he had picked up the items from the source address and had verbally committed to doing the same at the destination.
I told him it was unacceptable to leave the items on the street and I would refuse the delivery. He said he had to leave and threatened to drive straight to the dumpster and throw my items away! I thought of telling him to go ahead and threatening to accuse him with theft but he was very emotional at this point and I was afraid he would actually do it. He was frantic because he was blocking traffic—again something I’m shocked he didn’t anticipate being in the delivery business. Shouldn’t he have expected to have to stop to unload the items and planned for a logical place to wait rather than completely block a road?
He physically removed all but 1 of my items from the truck and held the final one hostage while demanding the rest of the payment—then spent minutes further blocking traffic while confirming the payment had gone through. When I threatened to report to the ‘BBB’ he said he expected me to do it anyway. At the end he said he would park his vehicle and help me carry my items, that were left unsecured on the street (a place I’d never want my couch to be), if I wouldn’t report him. He then drove away leaving a VM saying he couldn’t find parking.
I have never had a worse experience with a vendor of any hind in my life; this has infuriated me enough to motivate me to report a vendor to the BBB for the first time ever. This vendor, who also runs a farm, clearly does not understand the transportation business and is not equipped to deal with customers in a rational and helpful manner.
