A telemarketer from Quality Magazines called my 74 yr old mother on Feb 27 2013 and harassed her until she bought a 2 year magazine subscription for $129.30. Her account was debited on April 8, 2013 for the amount. She received the letter explaining the 40 day refund policy on April 15, 2013 - a week after her account had been debited unbeknownst to her. My mother has the first stages of Alzheimer's and doesn't remember ordering the magazines. She doesn't have the mental capacity to tell herself to hang up when she's being bullied. 

I called the 888 number on the letter and after approx. 30 minutes of discussion with the customer service representative, managed to negotiate a refund for my mother in the amount of $51.30. A far cry from the full refund that I believe she's entitled to. 

As I was on hold for the CSR to process the refund, I googled Quality Magazines, found the website and did a little research. This company is clearly targeting senior adults. 90% of the photos on the site depict older adults over 70. My mother lives on a fixed income of less than $1000 per month as I'm sure many senior adults targeted by this company do. 

I'm truly disgusted by this company's bullying tactics with my mother and I believe she's not the only one who has been harassed by this company. I can't convey how upsetting this experience has been for me or my mother. Unfortunately, this isn't the only time this type of telemarketing bullying has happened to my mother in 2013, I'm usually around to stop the harassment, but this time I wasn't. 

Are there not laws to protect our senior adults from these predatory and unethical companies???
