I wish I would have known of this service to help consumers, I would have used it over a year ago when this happened.

I was living in Garden City, KS and I had just switched to Qwest, because they had no monthly fee. I received in the mail two calling cards, nearby the calling cards was language saying only 10 cents a minute. No where on any of the mailings was the actual cost of using the calling cards. I also used Qwest Long distance which was also 10 cents a minute.

I took a business trip and called my wife using the card. She asked if I wanted to be called back and I said that it didn't matter since the rates were the same. We talked for a few hours.

When I got the phone bill I was surprised the bill almost 200 dollars for the month. I found that the call I had made on the calling card was the majority of this bill. I had never had a phone bill over 60 dollars.

I called customer service. I faxed the mailings I had received and called them on several more occasions. At each turn I was told that I needed to pay. To make sure I wasn't crazy I showed the mailings to family, friends, and co-workers. All of them agreed it was misleading. Eventually I reached what they told me was the top handler of customer complaints,and (surprise!) they said that I would have to pay the bill.

I paid the bill and changed my phone service the next day. Alltel has been great and I would highly recommend them. As for Qwest, it makes me mad whenever I see their commercials and their "Spirit of Service" in action. I think they only people they service are themselves and their wallets.
