They state that they purchased this account August 16, 2002. What, so they wait 10 years to collect on this debt? Its all so totally absurd. I dont need anything on my credit report that isnt mine. Times are hard enough without companies like this making it harder for single parents to get ahead.

Just some helpful facts: A debt that is more than 7 years old cannot be put on your credit report legally. In the state of Texas, a debt that is more than 4 years old can no longer obtain a judgement or any other legal action against you. These people can only call and harass you. Tell them if they are calling a cell phone that it is just that and they no longer have permission to contact that number. Write a letter advising them to only communicate with you in writing. This should calm some of the frustration. They are just trying to scare you into paying.
