POSTED: Thursday, November 04, 2010I avoid the mistake of buying any expensive merchandise from Radio Shack. So I do not have to worry about any warranty issues. There was a time when I had a use for them...like if I needed a transistor. Now you go into a Radio Shack and they don't know a transistor from a shoe. So I have no use for them anyhow. There are no shortages of places to find a better deal on a cell phone or computer or camera..and have a chance..albeit slight, of finding a sale associate that actually has product knowledge and my best interests at heart.

POSTED: Monday, November 01, 2010If radio shack is going to replace it under the terms of the replacement warranty you purchased from THEM...how else would you expect this to happen other then in the store? It seems to me your complaint is based on you not understanding any of this warranty and blaming the salesperson for this.

I don't think you understand what "unused portion" means..

POSTED: Monday, November 01, 2010So for a length of time you were actually using a portion of the warranty just by having it. Typically if you wish to cancel the warranty the refund is based on the amount of time left on the warranty or what is called "pro rated".
Otherwise customers could purchase a 4 year warranty and then decide to cancel it after 3 years and 364 days and expect a full refund. That won't fly. A warranty is nothing more then insurance. Would you expect a full refund from your auto extended warranty if you decided to cancel based on the fact that you never used it?
I imagine based on this report that the replacement warranty is through radio shack and not the manufacturer. I don't know why you would think they should care if you live 50 or 1000 miles from a radio shack. They just want to sell the warranty of course..they make extra profit from that. It is up to you to understand what it covers, how it works and then decide if it is right for you.
I would imagine the RS replacement warranty must have some benefits over the manufacturers (perhaps it covers the item for more time or covers other problems) so that is probably what the salesperson was informing you of. Did you actually read the warranty or just accusing blindly? Normally these run concurrent with the manufacturers warranty but then will cover what is in the terms after the manufacturers warranty expires. I would agree there would be no point to purchasing another warranty that covered nothing more and for no longer then the manufacturers.
