A young college age male named "Sam" came to my door. Said his goal was to introduce himself to 50 friendly, non-violent people and win points for doing so. Said his mother signed him up for the program because he wants to be a radio broadcaster, but has difficulty with public speaking. Long story short, he said the program has helped him a lot, and that he's on his way toward earning a $2000 scholarship. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. The rest of the story is history.

I never expect magazine salesmen to be unique. I figured it was just a pitch, but what I didn't figure is that I wouldn't be able to find out a darn bit of information about The National Student Agency (a Florida Corporation and authorized clearing house for the sales company); nor did I know that the price Sam quoted me would be a different price than the one I wrote on my check, and the one he receipted me for. He also indicated that the National Student Agency is a non-profit, and that as such, 65% of the sale price can be deducted from your taxes. I also didn't expect to find all the negative reviews and complaints about Readers Across America.

I believe I was confusing this "company" with "Read Across America". Don't make the same mistake I made. They are nothing alike.

Just as I have read on other complaint boards, and this one, howbeit too late, "Sam" had no identification or solicitor's i.d. I believe I just spent $49 on a worthless receipt and a "bug off" tag. The bug off tag is the perforated piece that holds the two receipts together. Sam said to hang it on my door so that I wouldn't be bothered by the other solicitors. I didn't put it up because I'm hoping one of them will come back.

I've already notifed KUSI news and will contact San Diego Police Dept. tomorrow. Hopefully, someone will get the warning out before others in the area get taken.
