I went to Smartstyle for a shampoo and cut. THe stylist shampooed my ahir and asked if I would like conditioner . My hair is a little past my shoulders and wavy when its wet so I said of course ou wouldnt be able to get a comb through it if you didn't! She put conditoioner on my hair, We go to her chair and she asked what type of haircut I would like. I asked for chin length layers she told me she couldn't determine where my layers would fall long hair has long layers and short hair has short layers. I told her that the previous stylist was able to give me chin length layers and she became hysterical! She got into this "sermon" about how no two people cut alike and either I trusted her to cut my hair or I didn't. I didnt want to cause a scene and I had been planning to get my haircut for weeks so I didn't want to leave without one. I told her to go ahead and cut my hair. As she was cutting my hair she was pushing my head all kinds of ways without asking me to move my head where she needed it to be. I was very annoyed. She was also telling me that she ws the best stylist in the salon because she had been working there the longest and that the other girls didn't know how to cut as well as she did. I was not responding hoping she would just hurry up. About 25 minutes later she was done cutting she asked if I would like my hair blow dried. I said yes. After she blow dried my hair she handed me the mirror. My hair looked chopped up like she judt went in and snipped wherever she felt like it! I told her that it looked to choppy and asked if she could even it out. She became hystrical telling me that she had been to all types of cutting classes and for a haircut like mine @ a private salon would cost at least 40 dollars. I told her I understand that but that was not what I wanted. She called her manager over and told her that I didn't like my hair. The manager asked if I would like for her to fix it. Sher gave me a GREAT haircut with chin length layers! The 1st stylist came over to her chair after she finished my hair and told me I didn't know what style was and her haircut brought me out and now I looked "plain". The manager proceeded to ring me out she asked the 1st stylist if I had got any conditioner she said yes conditioner and blowdry. The manager rang me up and my total came to 30.95! I flipped! I told her that the sign says that shampoo cut blowdry was only 17.95. She told me that she charged for conditioner and long length!! I asked why I wasn't told that there would be extra charges before the services were rendered. The manager said I'm telling you now. I thought Oh my God I will never come here again. I paid and asked if I could have the number to home office, The manager rudely told me the number as she pointed to the sign behind her with the number. I Said thanx and left. I called Home Office 3 times and they never called me back!! To all of you I want u to know that before u step in Smartstyle know what u r paying for! Better yet DON'T give them your service because they don't appreciate you and are very ignorant when you want to know what you are being charged for!!

I am an ex-employee of this company as of Monday.  I had been with this company for over a year, fresh out of school. This is one of the most bootleg operations i have ever worked in.  You can never get through to the corporate office and when they do, if they do decide to call you back they are very rude and never willing to listen.  Overall the only thing i can say for this company is that it is something to start with when you are straight out of school and please quickly move on.  The prices can at times be VERY ridiculous(only because they are broken down and not a base rate, so it seems very expensive at times) and because of that it is very hard to keep clientele.  The bad part is that it is in Walmart so stylists do get abused(verbally by consumers) at times because we are not viewed as REAL stylist.  When its the opposite, we have the same LICENSE as other stylists that work in independent salons.  On another note, when starting with this company, it was understood that i had a second occupation, so now a year or so later they put on the pressure and refused to cooperate with me as far as scheduling, so ultimately i could not take it.  The employers within this company show that they have no concern for their stylist PERIOD, they are all about that dollar and nothing else matters.  And it is very noticeable by their high turn-over rate.  I am not gonna knock all the stylist because whereever you go whether smartstyle or an independent salon, there is gonna be a person with no customer service skills.  But as far as employment???? No i would never work for smartstyle again..............they have ALOT to work on.
