Rent a Center ripoff Providence Rhode Island

Actually Ashley furniture is not "no brand crap" as you call it. It is fine furniture and the number one brand of furniture in the nation. Do a Google search of Ashley Furniture and you will see that. And yes, their prices are ridiculous, and yes their interest rates are terrible. But if you can't pay, return it until you can.

I would have to disagree that RAC is only for those with bad credit. It's not that I don't feel the interest rates aren't outrageous, they are. But sometimes, people are trying to get situated in homes or apartments and simply cannot afford to do everything at once. A rental agency such as this one comes in handy, especially if you can pay the merchandise off earlier than anticipated. It's certainly not for everyone, but I can attest to being one of those who benefitted from a rental agency.

Char, it's called CAPITALISM. Everyone has the right to charge what the traffic will bear. If people think the price outrageous, they won't buy/rent it.

The majority of the people who get caught in this vicious trap are ones who have no business getting near it in the first place. After all, how many of them *really* need that big-screen TV? They've ruined their credit, possibly face eviction from their double-wide, but want that status symbol. I'll settle for my two 13" TVs that I own outright.

RAC targeted demographicly poor areas mostly minorities. They jack up the prices way above the MSRP, if they were providing credit the annual rate wuld be 300% in most cases the typical credit card has an annual percentage rate up to 18%. that means the consumer who rents VS purchase pays up to 3-4 times more then the retail value. Not to mention that most of the items are used which decrease the value even more. So lets say you buy a used couch and love seat that would regulary cost in the store or in a used store at the most 500.00(for used item)RAC and its no name brand ashley crap wants 4,000 for a couch and love seat. so who's ripping off who? right know in congrees RAC little nasty sales tactics are being discussed in wether or not it should be legal to prey on the mis fortunate and wether or not they should impose a msrp limit. and about the harrasment they know you cant afford legal council thats why they do it.

My husband works for a rent to own place and if u cant pay and wont answer your phone they have every right to call tell they talk to someone and as far as they get there money when u do NO NO NO it dont work that way U ARE RENTING u either make your payments OR SEND IT BAK untell then they will call and they have every right too...u HAVE THERE STUFF,u dont go into walmart and say i want this and that but will pay when i can,HELL NO so what makes u think u can at rac....rac is for people who screwed up there credit so ya u will pay more.Duhhhhh

I needed a washer and dryer. I didn't have a lot of money, so I went to Aaron's. The people were nice, friendly, and had a genuine interest in me. I selected my washer and dryer,and it was delivered two days later. They were both new!! I was late one time, but I called and they took off the late few. In the year that I paid on the merchandise, I only received two calls. Once because they thought my payment was late, but I had used the mail drop. The gentleman looked in his records, saw that I paid, apologized, and took 20 dollars off the next month. The other call was inviting me to a BarBeQue and a Labor Day Sale. They gave me the option to "miss" a payment one month. (I never used it). When I paid that off I received a coupone for 50% off my next purchase. I will be using that shortly.

Rentacenter is definetly a ripoff company. There is a law that is called USERY, which prohibits outrageous interests rates for loan terms. I don't know if their pricing is based on interests rates, or they just hike up there pricing plans stricly for probit, (they do charge interest) but I believe those two issuses may be connected. So I advise everyone to check their state laws in regards to usery. Also, I used to work for a collection agency. Each state has there own federal laws in regards to collection practices. It's called the FDCPA Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In order to be a collection rep in Illinois, you have to pass this test. There are harrassment laws that prohibit companies to obstain from certain practices in order to collect on a debt. Such as calling the person in debt's employer, calling before or after the alloted time frame, in which the company is allowed to call.(time frames vary state to state)and several abusive calls every day(If I remember correctly,if a representative from the company has already spoken to the customer for that day about that debt, then continues to place harrassing phone calls that same day about the same issue) There are several other laws that debt collectors have to abide by. Check the FDCPA in your state. There are laws to protect your references too against harrassment.

Now I understand that companies like rentacenters are taking a chance by renting to own merchandise without credit requirements,etc. But the prices they charge, the extreme harrassment I have read and heard about, and the rude and very unprofessional employees, is no excuse. I can understand them setting strict guidelines, but this is highway robbery plain and simple. A friend of mine is renting a big screen t.v. and a livingroom set. What he pays a month, he could've saved a few months, and went somewhere and got a brand new set from value city furniture,etc. But because his credit is shaky, he has no other choice. And places like this know that. That's why they charge outrageous prices. And they are getting away with it.
Just because a person has poor or no credit doesn't give these companies the right to rip them off. Yeah, I can see the whole making a profit issue...but this is making a millionaire issue. With the prices these companies charge, Bill Gates better watch out!!!
Ususally when a person can't afford to pay, or goes into debt, it's because of financial problems. If rentacenter would make their prices affordable, maybe people could actually afford their merchandise. They even take people who recieve SSI payments or disability. Who in hell can afford payments like this on a measely check once a month??? That is just a desperate business.
And if the majority of customers have the same complaints, obviously it's an issue with the company.
If more people would take the time to file complaints against these companies with their attorney general and raise awareness, these companies would be out of business. See what happened with hollywood video? Enough people spoke up and and a class action lawsuit was filed against. Until We speak up and stop letting them get away with it, it'll go on and on.

The governor of illinois passed a new law a few months ago in regards to payday loans,title loans,etc. They too were charging outrageous interests and ripping off customers...as much as 100% interest rates!!!!!!!!!! That is why the governor signed off on this new law that isn't effective until january of 2006.

I am sorry that you fell upon hard times and I am sorry that you have problems in your life however, rac has the right to continue collections. You have the furniture and have not returned it, which makes you a theif.

I see you had to go to some family function, now you did not say what type of function but if it was a picnic or something like that on which you had to bring some food. You could have made a payment to rac.

I do not understand why people never take responsiblity for their own actions? You could try to pawn some of your jewlery and pay the bill which you are legally obligated to pay.

But I doubt you will do anything about the bill...

As much as i hate this but return it, It sounds like you are bitter. Unfortunatly they have every right to call you for it. How ever i will not do any type of transaction with rac anymore.

At Rent A Center, you can return what u are renting, and still keep your money in it.What is the company suppost to do when u dont make payment, just wait? We need to call untill we can talk to someone to find out whats wrong. Alot of times we can help if the customer contacts the store. Refusing to pick up the phone, or calling us back we have no choice to call. Thats why this is a rental, because you may return at anytime without oweing nothing. You wont lose the money you invested in the product. Solve the problem, return product untill you can afford it.Paying when you want to pay wont help. It will just cause problems. Be smart and do the right thing. The product is NOT YOURS, IT IS RENTED.
