I was involved in a accident with a driver who was driving a Rent a wreck from Kensington, MD. The driver didnt have insurance and said he instead purchased insurance through Kensington Rent a wreck. Unfortunately the insurance company provided by Rent a wreck (Lincoln General insurance) is going out out of business. Furthermore Lincoln General Insurance they told me they never had a policy with this company. I called the Kensington office to tell them that there insurance company was telling me they didnt have a policy with them, and the employee hung up on me. I called back 3 times and they didnt answer the phone. This company is putting drivers in jeopardy by providing vehicles without insurance. Luckily I have USAA insurance and they are going to cover the expenses (I have uninsured motorist insurance). Shame on you Kensington rent a wreck.

UPDATE 2/2

AUTHOR: ike - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 02, 2012

Called Rent a wreck Representatve this morning to followup on this situation and he said "they will be forwarding my info to their insurance company and that that company's representative would be in contact with me". Caustiuosly optomistic but it sounded like we took the first step in resolving the situation. But again, as of right now just lip service since my car is not repaired yet.

Keep you posted,

thanks for reading

Kensington, MD Rent a wreck is a joke dba Keving Centures

AUTHOR: ike - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 01, 2012

As of today is the six month anniversary of my accident with a vehicle (van) that was rented out by Kensington, Rent a Wreck... As of today 2/1/2012, MY CAR IS STILL NOT FIXED. Truly disappointed in the way this has played out. I have contacted the Point of Contact for this company Jason Mirelli and he sounded clueless as to what actually occurred. I found this funny since he posted about six months ago that the situation was resolved he  wrote;

"Their is an open claim for this incident that is being subrogated by the
two insurance companies involved.  The OP made false claims about
Rent-A-Wreck of Kensington operating without vehicle insurance.  Renting
an uninsured vehicle is a crime in the sate of Maryland where this
location is based, so we treated this allegation with due
seriousness.   I have posted proof of insurance for the world to see,
and I challenge anyone to call the insurer and verify the coverage."

If what this guy is saying is true  then why is my car not fixed???
Where is ANY insurance paperwork from my company (USAA) or your company (not sure who that is)  showing that this matter has been resolved or showing car repairs??
Show me any documentation that shows you have reached out to me in any manner (phone, text, email)??

What have I done to resolve this matter you may all ask?

1) Called numerous times to the Kensington Rent a Wreck office to get their insurance info, and direction as to how to proceed.
2) Emailed there local and corporate offices to inform them of the situation and that my car had been hit by one of their vehicles.
3) Filed a complaint in July with the Maryland Inspector General (not sure as to status of filing) to get legal help against them.
4) Spoke with above listed Point of contact (Jason Mirelly and he said is still waiting on Police reports and other documents). Again I find this funny since according to his statements this matter was resolved.

In fact, the only thing they seem to pay attention to are my postings/thread on the Rip Off Report, so I am posting this so Rent a wreck is aware of the status of this vehicle.

Just to be clear,  I am not one of their pissed off customers but instead just a driver who was hit by one of their vehicles, and now wants his car fixed.

In closing, I am giving Rent a Wreck, and their corporate office 30 more days, and I am going to file a claim in small claims court to recoup my losses on my car and time.

I will let you guys know how this turns out.

Thanks, for reading.

Strong language for what was probably a misunderstanding

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2011

Rent A Wreck seems to be using unnecessarily strong language for what was probably a reasonable misunderstanding by the poster. Based on my own experiences with frustrating bureaucracy, I'm willing to bet he got a run around or misinformation from whomever, making an already aggravating situation escalate to the point of posting here. He might also have not been well versed in proper procedure for handling such situations.

Incident in question has been referred to our insurer - there was no fraud and Original Post contained substantial factual inaccuracies

AUTHOR: RentAWreck - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2011

Their is an open claim for this incident that is being subrogated by the two insurance companies involved.  The OP made false claims about Rent-A-Wreck of Kensington operating without vehicle insurance.  Renting an uninsured vehicle is a crime in the sate of Maryland where this location is based, so we treated this allegation with due seriousness.   I have posted proof of insurance for the world to see, and I challenge anyone to call the insurer and verify the coverage.

For everyone that reads this post in the future I hope you consider these rebuttals and the fact that our company was responsive, was insured properly at all times and our willingness to publicly refute these mandacious claims by disclosing our insurer and policy number here before passing judgement on our company based on the inflamatory subject line of the OP.  In this case there were substantial, factual inaccuracies contained in the original post, which will live on here forever.

I fear most will read the subject line and never read further for the rest of story.

Let us all know how this turns out

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 05, 2011

Sounds like the OP may have been given bad info, or dealt with underlings at Rent A Wreck that didn't know what they were talking about. Advise OP to provide his own insurer all Rent A wreck contact info, including this poster ostensibly from the company. Drivers involved in situations like this are always best off having their own insurer deal with these matters. The only exception would be if your damages are all to the vehicle and you don't have collision on your policy.

Inaccurate Information Given by Complainant

AUTHOR: RentAWreck - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 05, 2011

On 7/1/2011 I received an alert that a complaint had been filed against our

Kensington MD Rent-A-Wreck location and I am offering this rebuttal to the complainant.    The

report posted at Ripoffreport.com contains a number of factual inaccuracies.

The report and complainant stated that the location was insured by Lincoln General Insurance, and that the location did not have valid insurance on its fleet of vehicles at the time of the alleged collision.  The complainant also stated that Lincoln General Insurance was going out of business.  All three of these statements are false.

This location is and was insured by GMI Insurance, which is a specialty carrier that insures many types of rental fleets as well as other fleet vehicles. There is a valid Certificate of Insurance in place for the Kensington Rent-A-Wreck location.  This location has a Million dollar insurance policy of which our company, Rent-A-Wreck of America, the franchisor of the Kensington location, is a named additional insured.  As a named insured of this policy, we are alerted of any lapses.  After some reseaarch and confirmation, there have been no lapses.  The insurance policy number in place at the Kensington branch at the time of the alleged accident is GMIR000100-0110 and this policy is valid from 12/20/2010 12/20/2011.

In regards to Lincoln General, this is a company with over 30 years of history as an insurance company and I can find no information reflecting a cease of business for them or their parent company Kingsway Financial Services Group (KFS NYSE) .

This complaint contains a troubling amount of inaccurate information.  I invite the complainant to contact me, Jason Manelli, directly at 240-581-1357 so that we can assist them in filing an

insurance claim if that is the proper course of action.   We are committed to providing the best customer service in the car rental industry, and I welcome the opportunity to further assist the individual who filed this complaint.

Make sure your insurance company goes after them

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

Rent a wreck's corporate contact page is http://www.rentawreck.com/contact.htm
Don't let your insurance company use this to jack your rates up. Insist they go after Rent a Wreck corporate.
