Rent A Center Billion dollar company shows its employees no respect at all! Staten Island New York

......Oh yeah! Now I remember! That's the last place a person can now pay over $300.00 for a VCR, $1,250.00 for a $500.00 couch, $1600-$1800. for a $850. to $950. top-load washer and electric dryer. Uh-oh! The **stuff** you get is very likely NOT new...call it "pre rented". Let's be kind and refer to it as "pre tested". Hey! That's better than new. **snicker snicker**

Maybe even complete with cockroaches from the last user, eh? A bonus for daily entertainment chasin' 'em down.

Not to worry, though. Seems as if I remember a claim they'll "service" any appliance on which you're still paying "rent". Hey! That might almost be forever.

I walk past one such entity in a local mall. I've seen couches and chairs waiting to go out on which I'd quickly put a cover IF (ha ha) I were acquiring them. Not to protect their couch, but to assure my continued good health.

All this said, I suppose they really do fullfill a needed market for desperate buyers with no cash or credit. (Doing so in a blatently exploitive manner with userous weelky interest rates.) They fall right into the same issue of ethics these "payday loan" / "predated checks" outfits operating with their even higher userous rates

As a passing note predating a check does NOT preclude cashing it IMMEDIATELY prior to the date on the check (according to two of my banks). That's a whole 'nother story of a whole 'nother can of worms. In some areas it's even illegal to predate a check, I think I've read.

It would surprise me if the most favorable employment were accessed at any "Rent to (only maybe) Own" entities. I believe 'ya folks!

Hello Michelle, I too am familiar w/ the practices that are way too common and unfair at the RAC Buddy system club. Hey that one Mgr. that responded and tried to make you seem like the crazy one is way to obvious that the guy is trying to get a promotion, so dont worry about that sis. Those are the type of people they hire. Jedi MindTrick Masters who manipulate its employees and its customer.

They like to hire people they think dont have anything going for themselves so they can lord it over them. How do you feel selling something that you know is not worth the asking price? How do you deal w/ going into wal-mart to shop and you see the same T.V. that you sold or rented a customer for about 800 dollars less AND you see the customer in the store in the same section. How do you look them in the eyes? Thats what ive been battling. I've even had guns pulled on me b/c a cust felt that we screwed him out of hundreds of dollars.

I didnt go to the police b/c i knew in my heart when I sold it we were wrong, but because we gotta get that 7.9 close friday, 5.9/2.9 sat, 20.*9 on monday open and have to be up on sales or you GET YOUR JOB THREATEND you have no choice. I used to be a door banger!! For hours on end. Yes, Im ashamed but its true. Thats how they teach you but tell you to deny if anyone asks. They tell us to go next door and slander the cust. to a neighbor or two. Sit outside the house and block the car in the garage before they go to work so you can clear your credit.

I was motivated by fear of losing my job or some new commer being promoted over me so, YOU GO INTO SURVIVAL KEEP YOUR JOB MODE AND DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO. LOOK at all the MKT. MGRS. of today and they are the past of rent to own companies in the early days when you could kick a door in and break a windo and get ur stuff.

Sunup to Sundown, or when ever your done while the store MGRS. go home to their families and have a blast while your still on the truck thinking about yours. Unloading and heading back out. At the stoe I worked at we went on deliveries after 10pm if we didnt get enough deliveries in the day and youd better not say anything. Even if you did, who believes you? but i feel your pain. peace.

I am glad to hear that your side of RAC is well off. I see that you have never had to deal with the things that I had to. When I went to Vegas last year I did see that in different states, the upper management was totally different than in NY. When I speak about RAC, I am only speaking of the region that I know and the people that I knew. And you are right, the best thing that I did was to leave when I did.

My store has gone down since my leaving and my customers still miss me. I know that I have done the right thing and I also know that these people will get what they deserve in the end. Things always go in a circle, and there time will be soon.

But this part of my life is over now. I am now looking into a better career and futhering my future in a more stable work enviornment. I have met some really nice people in other states that work at RAC, but not in NY as I said before. If I ever am in your neighborhood I'll look you up. Thanks and take care.

I have been a RAC employee for over 2 years now and am very happy with my job. It sounds to me that, unfortunately, you wound up with some bogus people in positions of power in the company.

It is unfair, however, to then say that the entire company is this way. I work in the #1 region in the company and all of the people that I have had the pleasure of working with are of the top caliber. RAC strives to hire only top notch individuals but the reality of society is that duds often slip through the cracks. It happens in every aspect of America. Also, you have to realize that it is not that easy to fire someone, especially in higher up positions. Unless they can prove without doubt that there has been criminal acts.

One thing to remember is that these people who have wronged you will get theirs. Chances are they will get convicted of a crime. I just hope that you realize that by bad mouthing the entire company for the unfortunate behavior of some is uncalled for.

If you feel that you were wronged in some way then you did the right thing by leaving. But please refrain from trying to "bring the company down" because of a few bad apples. Oh and I don't think that the company is going anywhere being that it is the largest RTO in the world. (They recently bought RentWay) They will be around for a very long time and will continue to strive for excellence. (hopefully they will get wind of the misbehavings of these people that you experienced).

As a former employee you should know of the disrespect and outright crimes that are being commited by the RAC employees. If you do not, since you are in a whole other state, you were lucky. But I highly doubt that. RAC hires and deals with garbage 90% of the time. You failed to mention that I dealt with cover ups, and deceit among other things. Yes It did bother me about the false allegations, but I am far from sour. I left my job because of all of the factors not just one. You are missing the big picture buddy!

You say you are a former manager at RAC, are you a market manager now? Maybe you didnt know of all the markets that had dirt going on? Or maybe you "chose" to not know about it. I see that you really don't get it, so I will make it clear to you! A company that is on fortune 500, A so called professional buisness should not have dealings with people of this nature, and if they do, which I know the home office does, then they should be dealt with and gone from the company. Rac hires and keeps trash working there. The company will continue to lose buisness and continue to take more "skips" each month because of the people they hire. Trust me, I am not sour at all. I am in great amusement everytime I hear that a former employee has set up a "skip" or stole from the company because they deserve it. They get what they ask for.

I am a former Manager for Rent A Center. I worked for them for over 5 years. So I have a little experience with them. I wouldn't go so far as to blame the company for the obvious poor behavior of the personnel you worked with during your time. People are people, they come with their flaws and sometimes strange indiosyncracies.

It sounds that you were treated poorly, even embarassed at some of the rumours that were spread about you. Most certainly that was wrong but to what extent can a corporate umbrella protect you from failing to protect yourself? I don't know..

What I do know is that no matter what organization you work with, as long as you are working around people you have something amiss.
Rent A Center sometimes gets a black eye by virtue of the people they choose as their market, but it's a viable business model providing service to people who are in need.

If a little rumor about allegedly knocking boots is going to set you sideways, quit. Start your own company with your rules and be happy. Sounds you spent a lot of time there being passed over for promotion and have a case of sour grapes working.

I know that there are a lot of employees of RAC out there that know exactly what I went through. I am also glad that it is over. It was a miserable two and a half years and I really wish they would change the whole upper management team so others do not have to go through that same nonsense! But that is easier said than done.
