I purchased one of Rheems 5 ton heat pumps to replace a Goodman unit that went out. I was without A/C and heat for two years while saving up for your unit. I had the Rheem unit installed in Feb. of 2009. At the time it was cool out and it was in heat mode and would not switch to cool, but as is got warmer at the beginning of March it switched to cool and it switched, but would not switch back. I scheduled the repairman to come out but they said it would be 250.00 to fix it, but I will not pay for them to fix a manufactures defect they need to make it good under warentee. I notified Rheem once more by Email and several months later I recieved a responce by phone and was told the local rep would have to come out and make a dissision, but they would not send him unless A Rheem tech came out to look at it and called in the Rep.  I used the unit for the following month in the summer and when it cooled down in October I switched it to heat, but once again it would not switch, so I had the Rheem repairman come out to look at it as instructed  ($69.00). The results were that the switching valve is stuck. They said it was under warrantee and would have cost me an additional $250 to remove it from the roof and take it to their shop for repairs.  Then He told me it is no longer in warentee because Rheem did not fix it in the first 90 days when it was reported.  I feel this is not right. Is your warrantee is so lame that I have to pay for your manufacturing error? I just paid thousands of dollars for the unit and installation why should I have to pay again when this is your error. This is unacceptable! I am unemployed and can't afford the repair; do I have to go another summer without a working unit? I bought a Rheem because they were trying to change their reputation, but I see nothing has changed. Maybe I should have bought a Goodman since I have owned them before and never had a problem getting them fixed. I will agree to remove the unit from the roof at my expense, but I am only paying for a crane to come out once and I expected Rheem to have a new unit here to put on the roof when I take the first unit down, or I expected a refund for the difference in price of a cooling unit and a heat pump. If the refund option is taken Rheem must supply heat strips for the unit.  Rheem refused to fix the unit and now I am reporting it here so others will be ware of Rheem.
