Many industry professionals have suffered greatly by their association with Mr Lawes, not only had they not been paid (or repaid) but they have had to endure slanderous accusations clearly manufactured to destroy their reputation for professionalism and honesty in an effort to cover Mr Lawes numerous inadequacies.
It transpires that the Australian investment group had only expressed a mild interest in evaluating the project in more detail once the funds had become available to them. They had never agreed to commit to financing the project and it was one of several options they were likely to consider. Mr Lawes then conducted a game of cat and mouse, actually more a game of cat and mice, firstly by trying to persuade the Australian backers to commit their anticipated funds because the pre production phase was nearly complete and Mr Rouse wanted to exercise his rights for repayment under the terms of his contract with Mr Lawes. And secondly implying to Mr Rouse that the project should go ahead as the funds would be in place in Australia in the next week or so, a classic case I am sure you agree.
The Epilogue: After several months Shadow Island principle photography was complete and it became apparent that there were not enough funds to pay the crew, talent, technicians or suppliers who had contributed in good faith to the project. The principle photography was co funded by Exec Producer Mr Rouse to the tune of approximately 6 Million Bhat and by the co producers FM films who picked up a significant portion of the outstanding debt and had also committed several Million Bhat to the ongoing costs in anticipation of the arrival of the core funding from Australia. With no hope of ever seeing the funds the post production of Shadow Island has been postponed and it is unlikely that Mr Rouse, FM Films or any other creditors to the project will ever see their money again.
So what of Mr Lawes take on events, it is his view that the Australian investment group had lied to him and that they withdrew their financial support without foundation, and secondly, the project would have been successful if Mr Rouse and FM Films had not withdrawn their support for the project at the eleventh hour. As a discerning individual we will leave it with you to decide who bears the responsibility for the collapse of this production. In order to assist you in making a more informed decision here are a few FACTS that you may find quite persuasive regarding Mr Lawes honesty and integrity.
Mr Lawes is insistent that he has at least 25 years experience in the movie industry and his CV boasts of a PHD and a degree in Business. As you will see this is not entirely the case and we have received evidence that Mr Lawes is not quite sure himself, as the following extracts from several CVs and his IMDB.com profile from the internet will prove. The CVs have been passed to us by interested parties in Australia and contain several paragraphs in which he boasts of his financial acumen and that he has been a key player in the floatation of several companies on the NASDAQ exchange. This simply is not true there is no record that we can find of any of the companies actually achieving a listing.

As responsible citizens we did some background checks and contacted the Northampton University to enquire about the legitimacy of Mr Lawes status within the university as the Director General for Asia Pacific and the response was, and we quote:

Some years ago Mr Lawes was promoting a new company BLACK OPAL CAPITAL PTY LTD, ACN (Australian Company Number): 69290642 (a renamed previously registered entity) as an organisation that would be capable of arranging finance for productions up to several million dollars by attracting investors from all over the world with the following unique proposal for film financing. This happens to be the UK business address of De Warrenne Pictures, a production company run by Mr Tom Waller. One can only hope Mr Waller was aware of this apparent association and that he has extricated himself cleanly from any dealings he may have had with Mr Lawes.

Together with his partner (in crime?) Chris Bracey Gibbons (an investment boiler room operator) they attempted to raise the capital. Of course this avenue proved spectacularly unsuccessful considering the level of expertise in business management that Mr Lawes professes to have gained throughout his illustrious career.
The following is an accurate extract of the web presentation.
THE PLAYERS
The Business Strategic Alliance between Mr Christopher Bracey-Gibbon & Dr Richard Lawes came about on meeting in Thailand. Mr Bracey-Gibbon had a company Patrician Enterprise Limited introducing business contacts and Dr Lawes had just finished publishing the Motion Picture Production Directory for Thailand. They are now in the throes of publishing the Location Thailand Business Network Directory (for 2004) of some 10,000 pages for Businessmen needing information and contacts throughout Thailand.
Mr Christopher Bracey-Gibbon is the principal and President of Black Opal Capital Pty Ltd. Canadian by birth, he is a former securities dealer and stockbroker (16 years) and has huge database globally of people unhappy with simply parking their money in institutions. Apart from Canada, he has lived in the United Kingdom, United States and now Thailand to take advantage of the economic growth cycle being experienced. He is presently working from offices in Canada and Thailand to establish the revolving film fund. Thailand is an emerging economy and recognised as a safe environment for filmmakers as opposed to other Asian countries.
OUR UNIQUE FORMULA
Black Opal Capital Pty Ltd is an Australian registered company with representative offices in Thailand and Canada offering Joint Venture participation for venture capitalists wishing to lend funds for the production of motion pictures by way of a revolving film fund. Capital acquired is placed in escrow accounts until fully subscribed. Depending on the option requested, funds are then directed to either an Investment Bank or the Production Company (Queens land Film Studios Pty Limited).
The Fund Manager under the Capital Guaranteed Option takes the risk and funds the projects.
Both options selected are covered contractually.
Sounds good doesnt it, for a company with AUS6.00 paid up capital!
It has subsequently come to our attention that Mr Lawes has also tried his hand in the production of Adult Entertainment productions and we have been reliably informed that Mr Lawes has stuck firmly to his production principles, and failed to fulfill his financial obligations once again. Claims to have been "commissioned" to produce porn for a certain Thai royalty.
Finally something that we believe shows Mr Lawes true colours, his current role as a proverbial snake oil tradesman in the promotion of a pseudo medical product called Oxyrich.
Oxyrich is a product from Australia, Mr Lawes and his wife are the official representatives of this product and are responsible for its promotion in Thailand as a cure all.

Not much in its self perhaps but, in an email Mr Lawes sent to Friends and business associates regarding the remission and recovery of his wife who had suffered with stage 3 cervical cancer. Mr Lawes suggests that one of the significant factors in his wifes new found health was and we quote..
I put this down to the following reasons (sic) Diatonic Stabilized Oxygen
You guessed it Oxyrich!
We wonder why Mr Lawes has not included his medical degree on his many and varied CVs along with the details of his forthcoming Nobel Prize for services to mankind in the eradication of cancer.
The following information was uncovered, and we feel it makes very good reading in its self, but when combined with the perpetual personal PR Mr Lawes inflicts on cyberspace, we are sure that you will agree that perhaps there is a new career path beckoning our man in the Far East as a top flight comedy artiste!

The first interesting anomaly is related to Mr Lawes date of birth, it appears that unlike the universe it took a total of 8 probably very traumatic days for his dear mother, for Mr Lawes to be created and finally join us here on planet Earth.
And in the case of his company Hollywood of Asia PTY LTD it seems that Mr Lawes was truly in touch with his feminine side as he lost an entire decade from his tempestuous and quite frankly Mittyesque life.
Queensland Film Studios PTY LTD, he gives his birthday as 20/08/1952, for
Hollywood of Asia PTY LTD, he gives his birthday as 27/08/1962, for,
Black Opal Capital PTY LTD, he gave his birthday as 27/08/1952 for,

We can only surmise that he is possibly (or should that be allegedly) one or all of the following:
A) Forgetful
B) Suffering from some mental condition
C) A crook
D) Just plain stupid
Of course these conclusions are our suggestions and we are sure there may be many more innocent scenarios that may explain these inconsistencies, poor handwriting and poor data processing by official departmental staff spring to mind.
There is however a further body of evidence that eliminates the potential for third party errors as an excuse and the following snippet certainly appears to add weight to our initial conclusions. Like many people Mr Lawes has listings on several perusal sites, linkedin.com and myspace.com for example. He seems inconsistent with both the details and his representations even when he has direct control of the information.

This original complaint was written by Robin Jacob - a conman holding himself out to be a Director of films. He has a website robinjacob.com as well as numerous other nefarious activities. He has also now found the ripoffreport site.
Jacob was fired from the film Shadow Island in 2005 for many reasons, some of which were, inability to direct, (he missed 23 of the 158 scenes of the movie), had to ask every morning from continuity/script supervisor - "What are we shooting today", continued to garner violence against the 2nd Unit director and generally was incapable of handling the job. As it turned out later, I was unfortunate enough to find out credits as listed on Internet Movie Data Base (which still exist today) are mostly bogus, 'put togethers' and cross referenced by himself informing IMdb.com these productions were distributed and sold. Not the case.
But let me go to the individual complaints:
"... He has a nasty and somewhat childish habit of blaming others for his failures ." Care to elaborate? I don't think so. Jacob is the one who shifts addresses, puts up bogus reports against me under aliases. Jacob remains unpaid - which this is all about - under legal advice. Full lawyers contacts available should anyone wish to confirm.

There is only one person (industry NOT professional) here and that is Jacob who remains unpaid. Others have been paid and in some instance arrangements have been made to increase payment by doing debt for equity swaps after Jacob interfered in the financiers, tried a powerplay to take control of the film, and caused the investors withdrawal! In all instances, crew and cast (all 112) can verify. Please Jacob, feel free to list others who can be verified?

Again a complete fabrication in Jacob's mind. The deal was done, contracts signed (in existence) and bank bills drawn on an Eastern European Bank in favour of an Australian bank who at the last minute delayed requesting another banks paper to be drawn upon. I in fact, put up my own money, as did both others - Rouse (story/2nd Unit Director) and Srisomsub (Thai Co-producer) - to finance the production. Due to the delay, on cessation of principle photography, Jacob tried to 'stitch up' production by presenting an invoice for 'double' the agreed fee, and was immediately refused by me. This incensed him and thus started this little slander, libel campaign against me.
Then this...

No such thing. Jacob by this time had conned the other two investors/partners in the film who had both put up Baht 5M (Rouse and Srisomsub), to try to remove me, blaming the delays on finance on me, Jacob having had them both sign a letter to me saying I was removed and 'may' be paid! All public record. I immediately rang my investors and informed them not to draw the bank bill as I was not in control of the Masters and until that changed - I had a water tight contract accordingly - I would not be liable for investment. They withdrew at my request! To date I have now invested over Baht 8M so am the core investor in the project trying to put together the rubbish Jacob left me with.
But ...

Wrong again Jacob. The film is now with Technicolor and will be released in 2011 after having many editors walk out unable to cut together the incompetent directing and missed scenes from your inabilities. Without investment, as funds are earned by me, I continue to get things done. And still am. As I earn, I pay and unlike you, I have continued to work with many feature films and TVC projects all completed post Shadow Island - please advise of your credits since then? There are none... Your poor suffering wife continues to support you.
But let's now go to the character "smear" campaign shall we...
Please note pics attached regarding degrees at end of this 'smear'. Unlike Jacob who has no qualifications other than being a self confessed fired short-order cook in London - (he actually confessed this) - and had his poor wife purchase on her credit card, a DV Camera (Jacob liked to pretend he could use it - but had no idea as it turned out), some editing racks and some equipment, so the love of her life could continue to 'play with toys', it would appear even Jacob's claim to IQ dizzy heights of 180 - please Google world's highest IQ's - would put to rest his claims and loose fabrications.
However, due to Jacob's inability to work in anything other than digging up dirt, perhaps my qualifications of Business Management in 1980, admitted to the Australian Institutes of Management, Credit Management and Marketing, the Queensland Justices Department and so on, make me a little more credible than the bogus smears claimed by Jacob.
IMdb resume - will have to update when I feel I need to - seems Mr Jacob is confused - yet again. I find IMdb a poor place for references after taking their records on Jacobs credits, which is one of the many reasons Shadow Island (amongst other things) has been such a nightmare. Bt from the ashes...

If memory serves me correctly this company was a shelf company I had previous - duh - thus the name change and was sold to a Canadian, Christopher Bracey-Gibbins - whom I later found out was a conman boiler room operator. I have no idea of the company or the ownership. Bracey-Gibbin had some idea on how to raise capital ( possibly another boiler room) thus I disassociated myself from him and no doubt this was what Jacob was attracted to when he first came to seek finance for all his bogus movie projects. He has them listed on his website and not one has ever been financed!

Never seen or heard of this address - ever - another delusion in the confused mind of Jacob. Also Black Opal was an Australian Shelf Company - why would it have a London address? As to Tom - he is a good friend and still is. Perhaps you should call him as he was the one who alerted me to your scams and bogus campaign way back in 2005 - The Big Con.info which has now been blocked. Get your 'facts' right!

You go into the use of oxygen therapies against cancer - well hate to inform you but Oxygen has been used since 1950's by main stream doctors. My wife IS alive due to it. I took over this company from former MD Don Balfour (since deceased) in 1990 and took it up to AUD1M p.a. in sales. After which Samuelsons moved into Queensland and took over the business in 1995. again - what is you point?

I think this is the property I bought with my sister - it was our address in Sydney prior to me getting in the film industry - we made about 300% on this one in 5years - not bad? But yes, probably - I have had many companies and used to buy and sell properties using a different shelf company for each property, so can't remember them all, you missed Conform Management and Finance - closed, Ileagain - closed, Babhail - closed and so on but you have also missed 5 more of my companies which I own and operate around the world. All commensurate with entrepreneurs and business people. But I won't elaborate - I'll let you keep digging the dirt and confusing your mind, and wasting your time as you obviously have had no film work since 2005 - IMdb have not reported any more credits since then - big mistake using IMdb! But rest assured - if anyone rings me for a reference on "Robin Jacob" - director (producer, actor, genius - whatever) - I will be sure to upgrade them!
But then - yes I know - for all the people out there - you are finding this all so boring - but this is what Jacob likes to do - he likes to get 'revenge' having been fired/unpaid - and wants to keep the game going - true sociopathic tendencies.

You then go on to quote birth dates - how petty - for the record 27 Aug 1952 - that makes me 59 this year - does that help if you have run out of fingers and toes and - unlike you - I had a great mum - you on the other hand openly admit, you celebrated your mothers death and hated her with a passion - poor lady. But even raising this - you really are quite demented. Accountants and public servants do paper work and not always accurate. I don't think company records would doubt I am one and the same. I think Mike's qualifications are well and truly past anything you Mr Jacob, would understand (or I) thus I bow to those with greater skills than mine. The company was incorporated and as we know - a public company registration in the UK is only about 600 GBP. It was private and going public but since you are nit picking - perhaps contact Mike - he may elaborate as he did the web and business plan not me.

Keep it up - you will bury yourself soon enough or die trying - suggest you keep a bottle of oxygen handy - you may just need it. LOL.
