I ordered furniture at Room to go in NC and the sales rep tried to charge me for assembly for furniture that was already assembled. The day before I had been told delivery was $69. and then it jumped to 139. I ordered and the date was set for 2 weeks delivery.

I was called that morning by rooms to go customer service and told they could not deliver. I called the store and called back to customer service and spoke with a supervisor. Customer service then called the store and said i was not telling the truth, they did not call me and cancell my delivery, i had made it up. i WAS THEN told delivery would occur 1 to 2 hrs. late. I was told I would receive a 30 min. advance call.

I called 6 hrs. later and was told that the delivery man had tried to delivery to my home and i was gone. I said someone was there but i could be home in 5 mins. could he wait. In the time frame of 7 mins. the driver said he had come to my home, no answer and he had dropped off his truck and piocked up another one. I stated this was physically impossible to do in 7 mins.

Customer service was rude and i cancelled my order because they did not delivery as they agreed. I asked for the charges to be taken off my charge card and was told they wwere. I called back later and the store had lied, no charges had been taken off. I was treated rudely and no attempt was made ot satisfy the customer.

Your delivery pinciples are absurd

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 07, 2006

You are wrong!!! They do charge for assembly. Its just hidden in the outrageous delivery charges you already have. As far as your drivers not assembling the tables, I unfortunately told customers that they should "tip" the drivers extra so they would assemble some of the tables. The elderly people have no way of doing this. Plus theres certain tables that to put together, you need an engineer. Just another thing RTG does to get over on their customers.

Rooms to Go NEVER charges for assembly of delivered furniture...EVER

AUTHOR: K - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 01, 2003

I am not insinuating that you don't have any issues to complain about...but more information is needed in order to completely assess the validity of the complaint.

1) Rooms to Go NEVER charges for assembly of delivered furniture...EVER. I don't know of anyone that I work with who would do what you have stated. What our delivery drivers do not do is assemble living room tables (end tables, coffee tables and sofa tables)

2) How much furniture were you to have delivered for $69.99? Should have been two pieces, such as sofa/loveseat or sofa/chair. If you added more pieces or rooms of furniture to your order, then the delivery charge would go up. At $139.00, it sounds like you got two rooms of furniture or one room plus some individual pieces.

You also stated that someone was there to accept delivery...but you could be there "in 5 minutes" to accept delivery and when you got there the drivers were gone. If there WAS someone there, why did you need to get there "in 5 minutes"? We hear it all the time...the customer misses the delivery window and then RTG is the bad guy for not waiting around and trying to find you so that the delivery can be made. The drivers are instructed to wait 5 minutes at a stop. If nobody is home then they go on to the next delivery. The RTG greensboro store alone delivery 6 tractor trailer loads of furniture per day to customers. The drivers do NOT have time to wait for a customer who doesn't think it's important to be there to accept their furniture delivery.

Just so you know, every communication between customer service or management and the customer is documented on the customer's order. Every phone call is logged and the overview of the conversation is recorded. If customer service had called to tell this customer that there had been some issues relating to this order, then notes regarding the issue would have been readily available to any manager, sales person or customer service agent who wanted to look. I recieve calls from customers saying that customer service never called them with their delivery window time frame. I can look at the order and give them the day, date and time of the call as well as whether or not the connection was successful. We have no control over you not checking messages, erasing messages or others neglecting to give you a message.

Last but not least, if you do get all of your money back, then consider it a blessing. If you did cancel the order after the truck had been loaded and a delivery attempt had been made, then the company is entitled to keep up to 20% of your order total as a restocking fee. If it was RTG's error, then I appologize for the error and you should have no problem rescheduling your delivery...but please be there next time.
