Everyone should read and KNOW the Ross Department Store refund policy. For Easter I gave my son gifts from Ross. Like many kids he wanted to return them - WITH the original receipt. They refused. They will only give "store credit" unless the original form of payment is presented -MY DEBIT CARD! How do you do this when the "Giftee" is in another city or state?

I read and printed the return policy, but I don't think they make it clear.. It says a 5 day waiting period for items paid by CHECK.Just a warning to read the fine print.

I do not see that this is a unique case for most (if not all) of stores nowadays. They used to give back cash, but there were too many people abusing the system in the past. Then they changed it to store credit which benefits them for many reasons -- no hassle of transaction for them, less issues with their accounting, the money remains in the store account because people will spend it regardless, prevent many fraud cases (i.e. money laundering), easily track on all records of sales, etc.

If you have your debit/credit card used in the purchase for the return, the money will be restored to your card. There will be NO cash (physical) presented in the transaction. In other words, whenever you spend money on buying stuff from a store, you may expect that you just bought a "gift card" of the store. The only different is that the "gift card" in this case is an item which could be turned into different item if the giftee does not like it.
