Royal Prestige of Michigan/Hycite Corporation consumer fraud ripoff Livonia Michigan *UPDATES

My wife and I were lured to a Royal Prestige presentation on May 30, 2002, by an offer of a "...complimentary 4 day/3 night honeymoon and vacation package..." At the meeting our presenter, Dan Beaman, scared us into buying the $2000 pots and pans by lying to us that aluminum causes Alzhiemers (no scientific data to prove that), Teflon pans are toxic to us, etc. (Teflon is in fact used in medical implant devices because the body doesn't recognize it as a foreign substance and therefore doesn't reject it; we have found all these things out and more by doing our own scientific investigation). We now have the scientific documents in hand to prove that Royal Prestige made many bogus claims.

Needless to say we discovered Royal Prestige's vast extent of deceptive advertising after our 3 day cancellation period was over. We manage our money well so we were able to pay for it up front (a big mistake). Ever since then we have been trying to get our money back.

Based on what I've read from the other Royal Prestige complaints it appears to me that there is a systematic aproach used by all branches of Royal Prestige that do sales for the parent company, HyCite Corporation of Madison, Wisconsin.

My wife has attended a second seminar by Royal Prestige of Michigan and recorded the entire thing on tape, after Royal Prestige made a boo-boo by calling her a second time and saying again that she was the lucky winner of a vacation package. This time at the seminar, the same presenter, Dan Beaman, used the same scare tactics, but now we have all the bogus claims and high pressure sales tactics all on tape. We have researched the lies he used and located several real scientific articles in scientific journals which show his claims of Royal Presige's "life-saving" cookware have no scientific basis.

We have been to the websites for some states attorney general (California esp.)and have found out that successful class action lawsuits have been filed against the parent company HyCite Corporation of Madison, WI.

Over about the past 4 months, I have been in contact with the Office of the Attorney General of Minnesota. The representative I have talked to there has told me that he has limited power (being the state had no involvement is the transaction) and resources to prosecute Royal Prestige of Michigan. They just don't have enough money and manpower to take every good case that comes up. He did say I appear to have a good case against Royal Prestige, though.

The attorney general's office said the next step would be to file a lawsuit against them. My preference would be to make it a class action lawsuit though so that we, and many other people who wouldn't normally be able to take on Royal Prestige/HyCite Corporation, can do so successfully.

We've been lied to and had $2000 stolen from us for cookware we refuse to accept. If you're interested in partaking in a class action law suit against Royal Prestige/HyCite Corporation to get your money back too, leave a reply to this message and let's get in touch.

If I want new cookware, I will ask for it!

AUTHOR: Makai - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 26, 2006

All of you defending the product, it is really irellivant wether the product is good or not. The point everyone is trying to make here, is that we did not ask to be contacted by this company. Our information was sold to them and we were solicited.

I trusted David's Bridal with my contact information, and the next thing I know I am being contacted by this company. They lie about a contest or drawing to get you there. The use high pressure sales tactics.

THIS is the problem. If the product is good, then it would sell itself. If the company was reputable, they would just say, hey, we have this great product we want you to buy and you will get this free trip if you do. If you are interested, come on down, and if not, thanks anyway.

We need to be complaining about these companies that are selling the info to begin with. What I did is go to David's Bridal on line and went to "contact". It prompts you to fill in contact info so that they can contact you for an appointment.

This is how Royal Prestige got my info. When David's Bridal denied it, I went back there and filled out the form again, this time entering the name Cleopatra Jones. I will be damned of Royal Prestige didn't call me 4 days later asking for Cleopatra Jones! So I suggest testing the places you think sold your info by doing what I did so you can prove that they are the source.

Then file complaint with the DA in the state the company is from. Not only for Royal Prestige, but against the company who sold your info. Also report these things to the FCC. Both the DA and the FCC are required by law to look into and respond to a consumer complaint. If the FCC gets enough complaints they will take care of it, and I have personally dealt with them on another scam I got sucked into and they shut the company down!

What was said is true

AUTHOR: Gregory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 05, 2006

I do not work for Hy Cite or RP but the facts about Teflon and almunium are true. Spending 30sec on Google adn you will get tons of hits. type "the dangers of teflon" "the dangers of almunium" and the returns will shock you. the epa is going after DuPont. And looking over the last 25 years will tell you the rise in altimzers. In the last 25 years the increase use of almunium is right on target with the increase of altimzers. Doctors and others will tell you there is no relation, of course they will they are paid to keep pushing meds for illness created by companies that in turn get paid for research into med companies. Hy Cite was years ahead of the rest of the world when it brought out the dangers of the above, it just took awhile for the research to prove it. As far as it staining. Again the driections must be read and followed. As with any huge investement you must read the manual, it is required to treat the product first then there is a certain way to care for it each time. It must be allowed to atain a certain temp before use, food not left in them, and cleaned and treated right away. If questioned, did you read the manual? Did you trreat the pans before use? did you let them atain the right temp before placing food in them? did you treat them after each use? If you ansered no to just one of these questions then spending 30 min of time reading the manual would have saved this report,a dn the company the embarssment of having it posted.

Good Product, horrible company

AUTHOR: Jeremy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 06, 2005

We went to a seminar and were bullied relentlessly to buy on the spot. When we didnt want to buy their products, the sales man started to get agitated and aggressive. I know some people love the product, but the company is horrible. They prey on young happy couples who feel special and lucky.

Their sales team was completely unprofessional, and we are LUCKY we didnt make a purchase that day. Those who love the company obviously didnt mind being FORCED to buy the product and never look back. Also, I asked the man if there was a finance charge or interest rate because I know all the tricks in the book. He pretended as if I didnt ask the question, and said there was none to mention.

I too went to a seminar today

AUTHOR: Cynthia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 15, 2005

We too went to a seminar today as the matter of fact we are just getting back from the seminar and were a little taken aback by the sticker price. They said that they would throw in a filter that normally costs $800 for free and that 7 pcs of their cookware would cost us 1549 dollars and that we could pay payments financed over 25 months at $69. Granted the cookware seems to be good cookware, but come on that is a really high price.

Also, they told us that teflon causes stomach cancer, but they didn't site any studies and they said that the government is concidering banning the use of teflon. They lured us by telling us that we had won $10,000 and the prize we got was a set of flatware that is very pretty, but it would have been better had they been honest and said we want you to come to our presentation on cookware and for coming we have a special gift that you will receive instead of telling us we had won money we had not won.

I was impressed with the demonstration, but I just bought a cookware set from Regal that while much cheaper doesn't seem that much differant than their product and it is a no rust product that is good as well. I have nothing negative to say about their cookware, but am not ready to fork out that much money for cookware. If a company is reputable why do they need to lie to you to get you to come? Furthermore why do they need to lie about the effects of Teflon or aluminum?

Think for yourselves.

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 06, 2004

It is not a scam. Is it that hard for you to say no? I was a customer before I got the job with Royal Prestige. I have done tons of research and I had an attourney in here a few days ago telling me that they are in ledigations against a company who sells non stick because they do have toxic fumes.

Even the EPA is going up against DuPont. You can always find doctors that say it will or wont cause something but as long as any thing is being test liked aluminum I am not going to use it. We all know stainless steel does not cause anything.

Even Anne Louise Gittleman a famous nutritionist says that other metals will change the chemical balance of food. She does not claim aluminum will cause anything but does reatic to certain foods. Everyone do your own research and you too will find many doctors say it will and it want.

But if you want to risk it go for it buy the other crap that is out there. If you use these pans the right way they do exactly what the company claims. Think of this would you buy a car if it was under investigation that it could blow up at any time?

No I dont think so not until you knew 100% that it would not. Even do a scrub test take one of your old pans and the royal prestige pan put some water in it the scrub it with a steel wool ball. Then put the water into a glass and see what comes out. That is all I have to say.

I agree. They should be sued

AUTHOR: Susan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 23, 2004

We had a similar problem with the company. We were sold $2300.00 in pots and pans and they do not come clean and food burns in them. We could not return them after the 3 day mark and we are still paying on them. On top of this, their loan company, Contemporary Lifestyles, has reported us as defaulted on our credit report, or several months behind. We contacted them to dispute this and they said it would be fixed, but it wasn't. We had paid over $4000.00 on our $2300.00 order and the balance was still at over $3000.00.

This did not add up with the statements we received, which showed the balance and then interest each month. When we asked for the reason we still owed too much, they did not answer. We asked for an account history. They stalled on it for 8 months and when we finally received it we found they were charging us between $60-75/mo in late fees, even though our account was current.

This accounted for $2500.00 on the account. When I disputed this I was told the balance was due on the 15th though I was told my balance was due on the 30th of each month. They told me they would call back regarding the discrepency, but instead sent me a letter stating they were forwarding my account to an attorney and I needed to pay twice the balance or my wages would be garnished. If you start a lawsuit, count me in.

Yes David and Rachel, lets start a class action against these people!!! they use scare tactics

AUTHOR: Kimberly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 24, 2004

I have the same story as many of you on this site. Oh yeah!!! After attending a bridal expo I won a free trip, $500 to spend on a website AND I got to sit through a 2 1/2 hour presentation about pots and pans.

Yes they use scare tactics, and since non of us KNEW that we were going there to learn about pots and pans no one had time to think about, ask around, or investigate on their own what Royal Prestige's product is all about, and decide if it's valid or not. But then they scare you with all the information about all the aluminum you will ingest over time using "other" pots and pans, and how you will get all these diseases. And to top if off, they show you this outrageous price tag and then tell you, well today, and today online, RIGHT NOW you can get it for THIS price. So here is a room full of young couples typically, looking at these thousands of dollars of quotes on the bored, and trying to figure out, well what do we do, finance our pots and pans!!! How ridiculous!!! But then people do it. We did it! I called Royal Prestige after using our pots and pans and told them that I was not happy with their product and wanted to know what kind of warranty or return policy (if any) that were available. I want some customer satisfation from a company I've given $2700 to! They have NONE. I was told I cannot return anything and no kind of refund is offered. That is insane, especially on a product priced so high. If it were that great, they should be able to refund their unsatisfied customers right? I'm with you, they are misleading, high pressure sales and they lie to get you to buy out of fear basically. No they did not force us to buy it, but they mislead us and many others into making this huge unnecessary purchase. You do have 3 days to cancel your order, but you don't even get your pots and pans for several weeks, so what good is a 3 day cancellation if you have no product in hand?!!?!?!? I want something done.

Royal Prestige/Bridal Awards/Lifestyles Unlimited/Hy Cite=a SCAM

AUTHOR: Judy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 15, 2004

Yes, I am a former employee who had access to an abundance of the illegal and immoral business practices upheld by this company. It has recently come to my attention that they are now soliciting business under the name of Bridal Awards using a website address of www.bridalawards.com

Please do not be fooled by them. It is Royal Prestige and you will be offered a "lodging certificate" which claims to be 4-star accommodations (actually you have to sit through a time share presentation even though the person who calls you assures you it is NOT a time share). I have been told by one customer that actually used this lodging certificate that all they got was a roach infested Ramanda Inn in Orlando. This couple eventually settled quietly with the company for an undisclosed amount of money to keep quiet.

Royal Prestige/Bridal Awards/Lifestyles Unlimited/Hy Cite---those are all names used by the same company with the deceptive sales practices. They prey on newly engaged couples caught up in the excitement of their upcoming wedding and convince them that cooking with their products will assure a long and healthy life together. At $2000 a set, these couples cannot afford this purchase and I have seen sales people even accept credit applications from folks working at Burger King making $600 per month and will be strapped with a $100 Royal Prestige payment if they buy the products.

Please avoid ANY dealing with this company at any cost. Hang up when you receive that initial phone call. It will save you a lifetime of misery.

today i experienced what u all have said. they used exactly the same tactics

AUTHOR: Kelvin - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, May 09, 2004

offering the free holiday which turns out to be only free 3days/2nights hotel accomodation which u must send in a US$50 reservation fee for first. then they tell u all the bad things about all other products and begin their cooking demonstration. after the presentation i examined their products and from the looks of it from the outside, it looks like a good quality product, however overpriced.

the other catch is that the salesman said the financing was 2%, convienently not mentioning the fact that it was per mth, making it in fact 24% interest per yr. i, like most consumers, don't bother to read the fine print b4 signing, however i did read it when i got home and that was when i realized it. luckily i attended the first seminar for the day and they had 2 more going after that. so i went back immediately after reading the fine print and reading up reports on this website to ask for a cancellation.

they were truthful about the fact that it was 24% per annum interest but made it sound as if it was understood that the 2% they said would be per mth when everybody knows that interest is always talked about in per annum. they were also very accomodating and not threatening in anyway and allowed me to cancel the order on the spot and just told me the usual salesmen talk about missing out on a great deal.

they tore up the credit card deposit slip and wrote a big cancellation across both the original form and the carbon copy. i did not take a copy of the cancelled form and can only hope that they will not try to put the order thro regardless and charge me. however i know that if they do try to do that, then legal action can be taken against them.

this is just my experience with them that i would like to share.

In response to Jessica from SC and Jordan

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 15, 2003

I attended Jordan's Seminar in Raleigh, NC and they used the same tactics as everyone else here is explaining. They made you wait forever to talk to him, then they offer the second trip once you sit down to talk to him, and when you say no, they try to tell you how great these pots are and convince you otherwise to buy these and how they are so great! The pots do not work as advertised, they do burn, they are hard to clean, they don't save on any energy costs, they don't heat any faster than any other conventional pots on the market. If you believe that you fall right into their hands. They use strong arm sells tactics, not scare. If you are unsatisfied with the product you are ____ out of luck! No return policy. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Charlotte NC against Royal Prestige.

I Have been ripped off i want my money back

AUTHOR: Crystal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 27, 2003

Me and my fiance recieved a phone call saying we one a trip to Hawaii and we had to go pick up our tickets and find out about the trip. 2 HOURS LATER we found our selves sitting in a hall being told how all pots and pans are bad for you, basically scared us into purchasing a 12 piece set of cookware for 1200.00.

I received the pots and found out that Royal Prestige completely scammed me into purchasing the pots... that in my opinion arent worth 2 cents. The crack, burn, smell, you cannot clean them without materials falling off of them. When i tried to return them they sent the same pots back to me not fixed not cleaned NOT EVEN LOOKED AT. LIFETIME WARRANTY MY a*s!!!

after they ignored my phone calls, return my pots to me, treated me like s**t i figured the only way to get thru to them was to stop paying i figured they would have to contact me then. Well guess what they did. THEY DID NOTHING BUT THREATEN ME.

the employees there are extremely rude. There are so many complaints on this company that i dont know what to do anymore. I want out of the contact and i want my money back can anybody help me. I will take them to court if i have to.

There's nothing scary about good cookware, return policy is a little short

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 05, 2003

I think this person had buyers remorse for spending so much money and is trying to make Royal Prestige for the decision they made. I went to a seminar about two months ago and there was nothing scary about it.

I was never told that other types of pots and pans would kill me or causd diseases, I was only told that they contained materials that could "possibly" be harmful if ingested over a long period of time. The main selling point that my salesperson, Jordan Gerardi, used was the Royal Prestige products themselved. They heat evenly, don't burn, and are fairly easy to clean (more so than cheaper sets).

We love our pots and pans, they make cooking a snap and as far as their performance, nothing was a lie. They are made so much better than anything you can buy from stores. Maybe this "Dan" can't sell without using scare tactics but maybe this consumer should try out the product they purchased before complaining about it and ruining a company's name.

They are angry with "Dan", but they should not be with Royal Prestige. My salesperson was upfront with me about the return policy and made it clear to me that I DID NOT have to purcahse a single thing to get the two free trips. Why would you want to sue because you didn't read the fine print.

Royal Prestige sells good stuff, their return policy is a little short, but who would want to return this stuff, it's great. If you don't think about what you do before you do, such as spending this much money on cookware, you will end up in trouble all the time. As far as I'm concerned, my fiance' and I made a great decision. This stuff will last us through our marriage and we will probably be able to pass it down to our children, it's so well made. They have a 50 year warranty against ANYTHING!!!

Dear Rip-off Reprot,

I have lodged a complaint on your site against Royal Prestige of Michigan that is dated Nov. 3, 2002. I updated that complaint on Dec. 2, 2002 by stating that I had received a satisfactory resolution from the company. I had previously requested that my entire complaint be deleted from your site which one Mr. ED Magedson said is not your sites policy. I can certainly understand that.

We DID NOT receive a full refund!

I know that this too is probably not a common practice, but your assistance would help me finally put an end to an entirely unpleasant and unhealthy event in our life.
