I bought a female champion bloodline Saint Bernard puppy in August 2012. My puppy was born May 2, 2012. The puppy was from Dam: CH. Rush Hour, and Sire: CH. Allstarz Call of the Wild. She was the most beautiful baby girl Saint I have ever seen and I loved her so very much... she was my world, and I named her S'more-s because she was so thick and fluffy and perfect. When I received her on Aug. 9, 2012, she weighed 23 pounds. She gained weight steadily and then at 8 months slowed to a virtual stop at under 80 pounds. She was also always very lazy and uninterested in anything, except food and sleeping; I chalked it up to her superior temperment. Also, when her adult teeth came in, her bottom baby teeth never came out. Yes, she had plenty of bones to chew on. My vet said that as long as it did not bother her, there was really no concern.

When she turned 10 months, she became even more lazy than usual. [continued below]....
..... I took her in to the vet on March 11, 2013 to be weighed, and had an appt. for the next day. S'more-s weighed 78 pounds and was a perfect fluffy beautiful stocky Saint. On the morning of March 12, 2013, she woke me with a little puppy kiss- like she always did- and she laid down and died. Just died. Just like that. No sighs, no moans, no nothing- just silence. I cried and cried and cried and took her to my vet and requested an autopsy to find out what happened to my baby girl. The vet performed the autopsy and sent some intestine samples to a pathologist at the lab at Montana State University. A week later the pathologist could only write "unknown" and "inconclusive" because the whole animal was not submitted. I had my S'more-s cremated... so we will never know. The most the pathologist could surmise, after me bugging him, was that it was probably congenital. I contacted Sheila Rush when S'more-s died. She was sorry, of course. But, that is all. If I was a breeder, I would be all over what happened to one of my puppies. I would also know that it was my responsibility to at least offer a replacement. Sheila does not care. Beware. Rush Farms produces beautiful Saints, but if there is a genetic/ congenital defect being passed around and you buy an expensive Champion puppy and your puppy dies- you are uncared about.

S'more-s

AUTHOR: S''more-s - ()

Hello to both breeders of S'more-s. Yes, this was an unforeseen happening. I never stated, nor do I now, that either you or Sheila knew anything was wrong with my S'more-s. Like you stated, these are living things and living things can have unforeseen problems. I will state again: you breed beautiful Saints. I chose my S'more-s because she was the most beautiful baby girl Saint I had ever seen and both her parents are top notch. I do not want anybody to be miserable. You do not know me, and I do not know either of you; but like you can attest to Sheila's love and care of her Saints, my friends can attest to my love and care of mine. That we lost S'more-s is a tragedy. That Sheila is trying to shift any fault, or lack of integrity, to me is also a tragedy. Puppy guarantees are not something anybody wants to use- ever. Yet, breeders have them for a reason. Why, oh why, is Sheila so stuck on the "not her fault" bandwagon. If I was a breeder, I would do what Sheila did- immediately contact the other owners and make sure their puppies were ok. Then, I would bend over backwards to help the person that lost their puppy. I would give anything to have my baby girl back- she was not a show dog, a kennel dog, or a trophy- she was my baby girl.

I did not call Sheila when S'more-s was dying- that is impossible- S'more-s just died. Alive and well one minute, laid down and died the next. No warning... nothing. I would also give anything to know what happened to her- what caused her to shut down like that. We will never know, even though I did all I could to find out.

Please, I am not faulting the breeders for breeding S'more-s; her death is a tragedy and needs to be recognized as such- no more and no less. If Sheila does not want to honor her puppy guarantee, or tries to belittle me, then others do deserve to know. I hope nobody ever has to go through the loss of their baby, but if they do- the breeder should be their champion... not their nemesis.

Apology should be made!

What an un-called for, mean spirited report that was submitted regarding Rush Farms.    I was the breeder of the Dam of this litter and a co-owner of the Sire, so I have a vested interest in this particular report.    As a breeder we all do the very best we can when we take on the responsibility of being a breeder.    I have known Sheila Rush, for over 20 years and can assure any one that she is one of the MOST responsible - breeders of Saint Bernards any where in the country.

Sheila, takes great pride in what she produces and what she presents in the show ring as is evident by the amount of winning she does under esteemed all breed as well as specialty judges.  Her dogs are healthy to a fault and able to compete in many different levels of competition.    It has been an honor and priviledge to be associated with her and the high values that she brings to the table where our breed is concerned.    This was unfortunate that this puppy died....that being said, if anyone thinks that a breeder intentionally brings a puppy in to this world for it to die as a young puppy, then you don't know what being a responsible breeder even means.

I own the pup in questions Grand Dam & Grand Sire, who are both still alive and well in our kennel - both have produced healthy puppies/dogs and we have never had an issue health related from either.      We have to remember, that this is a living thing we are dealing with - as such, there are going to be things that happen that are completely beyond anyone's control, no matter how much testing is done.    When a vet clinic...and/or university comes back with the cause being ,  "unknown" and "inconclusive" that means....there is no answer for it.   It could have been some type of hidden thing that was individual to that particular puppy, that no one could have forseen including Sheila.

It is really sad that not only does the owner of this puppy that was lost want to be miserable, she wants to make everyone involved miserable and responsible for something that was completely out of their hands.    I feel like this individual owes Sheila an apology above all else!

S'more-s

AUTHOR: S''more-s - ()

Sheila: I am glad you contacted the other puppy owners to make sure their puppies are ok. Nobody will ever know what happened to S'more-s. She just died. She was not sick. She was eating, drinking, wetting and pooping as normal. My 13 year old Saint and my 1 year old Saint are fine. We are a family and all the Saints are house and yard Saints. S'more-s did not go to public parks, stores, etc. She was either at home or to the vet for weight checks.

At her autopsy, the vet did say that her hips showed signs of hip displacement that would have been severe. I do not think you knew anything was wrong with S'more-s as a puppy. These things happen- one puppy out of many will just not be ok. Yes, S'more-s has a puppy guarantee... but this is the sad catcher, and your reaction that because the pathologist report was "unknown" because the vet did not submit all of S'more-s, means that you no longer have an obligation is what galls me.

I think you breed the most beautiful Saints, and I am not slandering you. I am telling it like it is. So, we have a puppy that developed a double row of bottom teeth, died at 10 months for no reason, and had hip displacement issues... what would you think?

Rush Farms Does Care!

AUTHOR: anonymous - ()

When Kellye Coe Whitebuffalo contacted me about her 10 month old puppy girl dying, and that she wanted me to give her another puppy..... it was only the 3rd time I had heard from her since this gorgeous puppy was flown to her. Kellye never voiced a concern those 3 times about this puppy. CH Rush Hour & CH Call of the Wild produced 7 puppies in this litter. I know where every puppy from my litter is, and after Kellye's email about her youngster passing away... I contacted every other owner who has a puppy from this breeding. All are alive, All are Healthy, All are Happy young Saints.  I kept a female & a male myself from this litter. Both are sweet, energetic young Saints. The female, RF Lisa Kay in fact is pointed towards her AKC Championship. There are No hidden genetic flaws in this breeding.
We give a written 2 year genetic guarantee and Kellye KNOWS this.
CH Rush Hour is 6 years old, CH Call of the Wild is 5 years old. Neither have had any health issues whatsoever.
Her Ripoff Report states it in plain English...The autopsy was inconclusive and unknown. Montana State does not have ANY knowledge that this 10 month old Saint died because of any sort of congenital defects. Plain & Simple!
Slander won't work with me, Ms Whitebuffalo. All you have done is let others know your report was invalid.
Sheila Rush
