While picking up a truck at Budget in Lakeland Florida to move to Massachusetts, one of the employees was having a hard time with the ramp used for loading and unloading. When I asked him if it was going to be ok he stated that it was a little sticky but it was allright now.
I drove the truck to my home to start loading it. My wife carried on the first box at which time I heard her cry out in pain. She had stepped on o large piece of glass and cut her heel.
After looking to see what happened, I found large pieces of glass all over the back of the truck. It was obvious that the last renter failed to sweep it up, and that no-one bothered to check if it was returned clean.
After loading the truck, I attempted to return the ramp to it's proper position but had to get my neighbor to help, because it would not go back (I am 6 feet tall and weigh 210 lbs). It appears that the worker at budget was more concerned with renting the truck than he was with my family's safety. The rear frame where the ramp slides into was broken half way off and I was afraid that it may break completely before I made it to my destination.
We then began our journey and the first time I had to take a sharp left it scared the hell out of us because it sounded as if the left front wheel was going to fall off.
Now I have a loaded truck with all our belongings and a 1300 mile trip ahead of us. I chose to continue on my way while staying alert for any other noises.
When I arrived to Massachusetts I tried to pull the ramp down but was not so lucky this time. I had to get 2 other men and a large pry bar to get it down. While pulling on the ramp I cut both of my hands in several places. So not only did they take my money for faulty equipment, but we also had to donate some blood.
I have used Budget in the pass without a problem and will continue to use them providing this matter is resolved.
As a side note, my daughter and son in law made the move at the same time, and used Budget on my reccomendation. They had no problems, but they picked up their truck from a different dealer.
