I wanted to let everyone who works for SC Kiosks Inc. aware of the clause that exists in the contract between SC Kiosks Inc. (subsidiary of RadioShack) and Sam's Club stating that Sam's Club's allowed to buyout roughly 10-15% of the cellular kiosks (SC Kiosks Inc.) that exist in Sam's Clubs nationwide each year. A few large markets were already bought out at the beginning of the merger from Wireless Retail Inc. to SC Kiosks Inc. back on October 1, 2004.

These buyouts occur on an annual basis and next month will mark the 1 year anniversary of SC Kiosks Inc. and with that will enevitably come another takeover of several SC Kiosks Inc. locations nationwide. One of Florida's first buyouts occured in the Jacksonville Florida area in which a LOT of people lost their jobs or were reassigned to other markets if they chose to take that route. In the past few weeks I have spoke with numerous managers of the surrounding Orlando Sam's Clubs and they have all stated that it was true that within the next couple of months that SC Kiosks Inc. would be taken over Sam's Club in it's entirety.

*** NOTE: This buyout applies to the ORLANDO, FLORIDA area but every market should continue to read on!!!

Every SC Kiosks Inc. location is getting a makeover this month with a brand new kiosk, employee uniforms, and a whole new point of sale system. The new kiosks look so great and so in unison with the ambiance of Sam's Club not because it was something that RadioShack was pushing for but more because of what Sam's Club wanted. The Sam's Club chain mandated that all SC Kioks Inc. locations throughout the nationwide gut their old kiosks and apply a kiosk that was "Sam's Club" fitted. This was the first step in getting ready for the buyout(s). Also, take a look at the nice new computers and those of the newer Sam's Clubs because they are not only the same brand (different model) but also incorporate a lot of the same functions of those used by Sam's Club. So what does all this mean for employees of SC Kiosks Inc....

Employees will have the offer of keeping their jobs but at a loss of pay from what they are currently making. Each employee will be paid the same hourly wage as one starting at Sam's Club ($8/Hr) but there will be NO COMMISSIONS!!! Thus, the cellular division will no longer payout commissions on cellular sales. This comes as no shock, however, since the jewelry section in every Sam's Club used to be independently opperated and commissioned paid until Sam's Club monopolized that area of sales, too.

Your District Manager and Regional Director may tell you otherwise but everything that I have just wrote is accurate and 110% truthful! If you do not believe me you can ask any of the managers in your local Sam's Club and I guarantee you that at least one of them (more then likely the General Manager of the store) will be able to verify this and let you in on what is going on. I was a DM with SC Kiosks Inc. but I got out early and took a secure job here in the Orlando, Florida area; a job that doesn't envolve worry of whether or not I will have a job the next year. Take this information seriously and research it if you think it is needed but in the end you will see that the writing's on the wall.

Some Managers working for SC Kiosks Inc. might tell you that your job will be secured with new within-a-mall locations that RadioShack's working on as we speak but DO NOT believe them as this is nothing but lies, too, as a way to keep you on board until the very, very end. If a District begins to fall before the end is near not only will that manager be responsible for the staffing issues but he/she might not be eligible for their severance pay. Do your research NOW, NOW, NOW!!!

I hope this information can be of some help to those of you envolved with this company and good luck to each and every one of you!

P.S. If anyone has vacation time saved up TAKE THAT VACATION NOW!!! If you quit you WILL NOT be paid for this time!

It's Business

AUTHOR: Andrea - (U.S.A.)

I have worked for Radioshack since 2006. I started in KOI inc. till it merged with SCK in 2007, I then started working SCK. I have been with the company for 3 years, and though I don't always agree with all the moves the company makes, I've never had a job that I 100% agreed with. But I definitely don't think it's a horrible company. I see so many 3rd party dealers that don't get paid comission ever and managers make 8.50/hour. I do devote a lot of time to work, business trips and so forth, but that's my choice. And if I chose to stop I know I wouldn't loose my job. I know some kiosks are being taken over by SAMS and that sucks really bad. People will loose their jobs and or be moved to other stores. OK well we are also in a horrible economic state where huge companies are filing bankruptcy and many are shutting down for good. Business is business, stores come and stores go. It's a risk. Does that mean it's a bad company well then they are all bad companies. For those that are saying that they worked 75-80 hours a week, thats poor management. I have to go to another store beside my own if I want over time. The only time I ever worked that many hours was when I was working another store or just took over a store with no staff. And even then i maybe hit 72! If you put a lot of time in as a manager, it's beause you chose to become a manager. In anything you do, moving up means giving up!! If you don't get it, then stay an associate! Come on guys, business is business!

Chill Out Foos

AUTHOR: Binesean86 - (U.S.A.)

yes it is true that there is a clause that allows sam's club to 'consume' around 30 stores per year but it you look at what is actually going on you would see that it isnt exactly happening. the first two years after the contract was signed, sam's stopped taking our stores away from us. it seems as if their experiment has been losing them money and commission based cellphone sales is the way to go... they get a good payout per contract we sign up, yeah they would get all of it if they owned the kiosks but the number of phones out the door would plummet as has been demonstrated by the handful of stores they have converted to the dark side. the sam's i work at is directly next door to a huge walmart that gets at least 3 times the traffic we get but at the end of the month we consistently tie or beat their phone sales... and they have better pricing on some of the hot selling handsets! call it what you want but id be willing to bet my monthly bonus on sam's negotiating our contract and extending it beyond the end of 2009

Mixed Feelings

AUTHOR: Scott B In Louisiana - (U.S.A.)

I have mixed felling about S.C. Kiosks / R-Solutions. Reason being, I started with Wireless Retail in August of 2004. From the start I was put in charge of the Kiosks location by the then area manager, no official title but I was told I was responsible for everything that happened there. Also not additional pay! But I figured ok it will help me move up in the company.

I have to laugh about that now.

A few months later when Radio Shack bought the company things did improve a lot. We did get more inventory in the store and a new pay scale, not the draw system we were on. After that I was promoted from sales rep. to the STORE MANAGER. I was titled Sales Manager on my pay stub. Also I did get a raise. The problem with that is that my position was only a title, the DM would not allow us to do anything at first. After time he did start to let us do more management issues and by the time I left the company I was the top store manager in the district. I was the person that EVERYONE ran to, to ask question on how to do things correctly, I had to train new hires Reps from other stores and Managers. But still I was enjoying my self then.

I was with the company 3 years and I did see a lot of changes and I was told by the DM about Sam's Club taking over other stores. They did it by either Regions or Districts, Sorry can't remember exactly. I was told the Sam's could only take over up to 25 stores a year. The first year I was told they did take all 25 and the next year they only did 23. Yes they can and will take over some of the top store because they did it in Louisiana. I was also told that later Sam's did return some of the stores in the country because the SAM's Communication Center were not making a profit and that the employees that worked it were also part of the photo center. Also they were not paid a commission. What is the drive behind some one to sale if they know they get paid they same no matter if they sale or don't.

While I was there I did learn a lot about people and how they work. I had some of the TOP reps in the LOUISIANA / TEXAS district, but I had a few bad ones to. I am a good sales person and I tried to help people with theirs sales but you can't make a person do what they don't want to do. I had KIDS working for me that did not care about anything. That was my fault for hiring them. But I had some people, still in the same age range early 20's, that did make more money than they ever did before then. I did and still take great pride in those people that did do a great job. Even with the top reps they still were college students that liked to party, so I had a few call in. The kiosks did take over my life. I had to work 7 days a week weather I was at the store or not. I would get calls all day everyday either from my store or other store, Managers or customers, or the DM calling me to ask why or what was going on at my store or others. The pay is another issue, Pre-Katrina we were paid what we were told was the avg. for the cost of living in that area where the store are also that in was the avg for the market.

After Katrina nothing changed to the pay for over a year even thou the cost of living in south east Louisiana went sky high. Myself along with 2 other managers fault for over a year to get the DM to do anything about it. Finally we were given pay raises, but no where close to what reps or store manager were making at either Radio Shacks or other cell phones company stores. I have a family to support and other bills. For 2006 with hourly + commission + store bonus I only made a little over $31,000.00 in 2005 I made around $40,000.00. And that was with a sale improvement from 2005. The turn around was bad and the main reason for that is because of the pay. Why would anyone, that is worth anything, want to work a place that on pays $7.50 an hour to the reps. and Managers just a little more.

Here is a message to R-Solutions, PAY BETTER AND YOU WILL GET BETTER PEOPLE!

Getting back to the take over by Sam's Club.

I do not understand even to this day why Sam's Club did not support S.C. Kiosks more. S.C. Kiosks pays Sam's club thousands of dollars per month for each store that they are in. I think it was like 15 or 16% of that kiosks monthly sales. And that is more than what the Sam's Communication Centers make in a month, in most areas. Sam's Club has the right to move the kiosks to where ever they want it. They put my former Kiosks in the back part of electronics for about a year. They did move it to somewhat a better place but it was almost out of the way. We did have a few Sam's Club managers that did not want SCK in the clubs at all and they did say that Sam's would have them removed and taken over if they wanted it to be. This is wrong! The Sam's club managers can not say that they will take that individual kiosk over. Only Corp can do that and they only can take up to 25 a year, or at least that was what I was told by the DM.

Before I left the company I was hoping to become a DM, then they redid the districts and some DM's lost their jobs. I was also on 3 anti-depression and stress meds too! So I started to look for another job because SCK is a dead end job, there is no future with SCK but it was a great place to learn at.

I found a job with another carrier that SCK did not sale, VZW, and I am making 2 to 3 times more the money that I did as a STORE MANAGER.

One other thing, if you do have Vacation time and you do quit, it depends on the state that you work in that determines if you get paid that time or not. I did get paid mine and Thank god I did get paid that, It was more that some of my store bonus checks.

And I do feel like 1000000 lbs was lifted off, and I am no longer on the meds either!!!

Work With Out Assistance..

AUTHOR: Gameswithoutfrontiers - (U.S.A.)

I worked for SC Kiosks for a little under 2 years. Was a manager the whole time, and dedicated my time, effort and sacrificed family time to go on meetings, to work overtime, and to be a model Manager. In the time I was employed, I had watched countless colleagues / managers go, 6 different DMs, went through 3 RDs, and had the CEO change.

I feared my job everyday, because i didnt know who's head was on the chopping block today. I wasn't kept in the loop because the newest DM lived over 7 hours away, and she barely communicated with me. I give a two week notice and she then gets very pissy about the situation, and when my two weeks are up, I let her know. She throws a fit, and 2 days later, I'm threatened with legal action because "phones are missing". Talk about convenience.

I've been gone for 4 months, and no litigation has been brought up. I've never been charged. But people still ask me why I did it. I have never been in cuffs and people still say I did it. My reputation is ruined. It's due to Sam's & the new SCK Mgmt.

Get out while you can!

AUTHOR: Joy - (U.S.A.)

While it may be true that Sam's Club can't take the top stores, what good is it going to be to work for S.C. Kiosks when they'll only own a few good stores here and there? They will end up bankrupt because of Sam's Club taking over the majority of the stores.

If you want a real sales opportunity get out while you can and work for a real wireless store. It's more reputable and you make more money than in the kiosk.

Not to mention, can you really count on the top stores as a career?

sc kiosk buyout

AUTHOR: Never - (U.S.A.)

Anyone that has been with sc kiosk for more than a year knows that this buyout clause has been in effect since wireless retail was around. It's never been a big secret, and it's never been hidden.

I still work for sc kiosk, and i'm not too worried about the buyout. it will happen eventually, but not in the near future. At least not in my store. As was stated ealier in this post, they cannot take the top stores. Why would they? We sell more phones and bring in more revenue than Sam's employees can or will. Why? Commission. What is a Sam's employees motivation?

The only problem i have with sc kiosk is that the same idiots that ran wireless retail are running sc kiosk. i see alot of the same mentality that was around during the wireless retail days, and we all know what happened to that company.

I guess all i can say is, make your money now, cause tomorrow will be too late.

I see the light!

AUTHOR: Joy - (U.S.A.)

I had posted the most current rebuttal and a few of my opinions have changed.

I am an ex-employee of S.C. Kiosks as of today! Anyways. I wanted to say that you guys are right.

I talked to Sprint Representative and a few managers of S.C. Kiosks and they have said yes that S.C. Kiosks will eventually all be bought out by Sam's Club.

Even worse cingular won't even put their logo on the shirts! They look tacky too, and highly unflattering for female sales women.

I don't see a bright future for S.C. Kiosks. I've experienced constant employee loss for whatever reason and constantly having to work more hours because of this. I have not even been able to take a vacation. I think I'm actually glad I don't work for them anymore because of how bad they treated me as an employee.

Doesn't Say Sc Kiosks, but these are the new changes!

AUTHOR: Joy - (U.S.A.)

I will start off by saying that I have been working for S.C. Kiosks for over a year now and I've seen A LOT of changes going on.

I wouldn't say that nessecarily though that the changes are preparing our kiosk for a buy out for a couple of reasons:

1. Our company name has been changed to R-Solutions, some odd months ago.

2. There is a Sam's Club owned Kiosk in Southgate MI. However their Kiosk is designed differently than R-Solutions Kiosks. AND their products and pricing are not all the same as ours.

3. We did get a new cash lane and back room, that is the same as Radioshack stores. Not Sam's Club. Even old Radioshack employees that work for us now, know exactly how to use the new cash lane and back room functions.

4. Our SKU numbers have all been re-done as well.

5. Every SC Kiosks Logo has been changed to the new R-Solutions Logo, as for t-shirts, they are staying the same. The t-shirts just say Communications Specialist on the front, with a Sprint or T-Mobile logo on the sleeve.

6. Radioshack aquired more cell phone buying power to get exclusive phones in their stores first before the coporate stores, which ALSO affected R-Solutions. Not Sam's Club owned Kiosks.

The only thing I will say is odd is the fact that the Kiosk doesn't Say SC Kiosks or R-Solutions on it, but then again the old Kiosk Didn't either.

What Stores in Michigan are going to be taken over by Sam's Club?

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

I am a Past Store Manager with SCK, Thank God to...

What Stores in Michigan are going to be taken over by Sam's Club?

Everyone!! I have read some entries that SCK / Radioshack is an excellent place to work.. You know what, it is at times, you have your privacy, but then all the DM's and The RD's start being cute and make it like your job is your life and it was my life until I found out how they really are. I will NEVER work for them again, they are evil, and what I am doing now, I have a Life, I can spend time with my family, to which at SCK, I didn;t have that, and I know more people who were Mgr's and when they left, it was like 1000000 lbs was lifted off them.

But, my reason for this post is.. What SCK stores in Michigan are being taken away and going to SC Direct

Settle down a bit guys. 25 stores in the following states: tx, oh, mo, mi, la, ks, il, ar, and hi are being acquired by sam's. They cannot take the top 15% volume stores, so if your not in the top 15% you probably are not making enough money to care about your job going bye bye anyway. This is not the first time this has happened, most employees were happy to be transfered to higher volume stores.

Something to add... nowhere does it say SC Kiosk or even Radio Shack

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

Just want to also add that if you look at the new kiosk design nowhere does it say SC Kiosk or even Radio Shack. Also the new uniforms they are coming out with do not have the company logo on them at all they simply say communication center.

Sam's Club Parent Company Wal-Mart owns the Communication Center in there stores and pay the employees a base salary. Why not own Sam Club Kiosk also. Have another company come in establish a customer base and then buy them out.
