S&G Wholesale Roofing Supplies Inc. is not the company we all think it is. Discrimination is my main concern why I am reporting this company. Throughout the years that I have been working there, my employers have been unfair to us employees.
First of all, I am going to talk about work performance. Our job duties is to deliver roofing materials on a roof. We all know that SAFETY is the first thing to be considered, but what happens when your boss pressures you to get the job done fast?? Accidents can happen. Us employees are pressured to meet those needs without considering our safety. We sometimes have to run on the roofs that are very steep but walkable just to not get a warning. Taking our time and being safe does not matter to our boss because he will give a warning if we take too long.
Sometimes jobs do take long to get done, but there is a main reason why. Man power. Our boss sends one driver and one swamper for a load, when sometimes us employees need more than one helper for a job. When we call in the radio and let our boss know that we need help, Hicks says "Good luck, and stop crying." This is stupid because when Charles Hicks was a roof loader, he would cry all the time. He would take hours on a job. I can say this because we have worked with him and seen these actions. Now that he is a dispatcher in the office he has forgotten how hard it is to load a roof.
Secondly, some employees including me feel discriminated because when work is slow, our boss, Charles Hicks, sends us home, while one person makes his ten hours everday. We cannot be seen standing around for a short time because we get warned. But the person who makes ten hours everyday, sits inside the office and chats with the boss, beggs and cries for roofing loads, even though he is a regular worker just like us. Not only that, he works on saturdays half day while we sit at home.
I feel that this person gets more preferance than us employees because we are hispanic and he is caucasian just like the boss.
This year the boss said there were going to be no raises for anyone whatsoever. What's funny is that that same person who makes ten hours everyday was given a one dollar raise this year. We found out because he dropped his post-check on the ground and eventually we saw. Also, our boss, Duane Caldwell, hired his son. As I can remember, when we got hired, we started at $8.00/hr, yet his son started $9-9.50/hr with no experience whatsoever. Three months later, his son got another dollar raise, while the rest of us received nothing. Our boss thinks we do not know about this,but eventually the truth has to come out.
Us employees feel that our boss is not treating everyone equal, when he says that we are all equal to him. What is the point of having safety meetings when in reality our safety is not taken seriously on the job because of our boss rushing us. Us employees love our job, we love what we do, but someone has to speak up.
