This company advertises on tv and the internet for a throw away hearing aid that must be replaced monthly ( non repacceable battery runs out ).

They offer a TRIAL period and you get to try their product and pay only shipping and handling for 30 days.

They require a credit card number to charge you for the shipping fee ( $14.95 )

What they don't tell you is that if you cancel they will charge you $79.95 if you don't return the THROW AWAY hearing aid to them, and of course you must return it within the 30 day trial period or they ding your credit card monthly.

The product sucks

The customer service sucks

The company sucks

Buyer Beware, but...

While I have no desire to tout the benefits of one credit card over another, if you can use an American Express Card, you can always get your money back, even if you go well beyond the "trial" time period.

You should probably check the fine print on that benefits booklet that you get with new credit cards.  You may find that in the event of disputes, what you are currently carrying will also fill the bill for refunds.

The Songbird was OK so I don't agree ...


As a former songbird consumer, I was so surprised by this report that I was motivated to subscribe to Rip-Off Report and submit my comments. I have not had such a terrible experience with the songbird disposable hearing aid or the company. I am a customer and do not work for them or benefit by posting this commentary in anyway, shape or form. However, I did not op for automatic delivery but rather purchased two or three of the disposable hearing aid one at at time. It served its purpose as I used it as an introduction to wearing a hearing aid and found that it worked OK although the earpiece was a little too big for my ear canal. I have since purchased a much more expensive hearing aid that included a personal fitting and hearing adjustments. When I stopped buying the songbird they did not continue to ship and did not charge my credit card without authorization.
