We have a sign on the front porch that says that we sleep days; please don't knock. My wife sent me to the door because the person continued knocking. His whole tactic was his use of flattery. He claimed to be working to gain points for a scholarship competition. Then he asked my occupation, and I replied I was a pianist. He asked if I would play piano while he made a video of it on his cell phone. Wnen I hesitated because  of the absurdity of that as pertaining to his competition, he quickly jumped to magazine sales. The only magazine that he had listed that had any appeal to me was Atlantic Monthly. I asked if I could buy a year, and he quoted me a price of $ 27. Then he looked at a paper that he produced that he said required two years subscription. Then when he wrote out the order the amount was $ 75.88. He mumbled something about processing fees and shipping. My wife took the company name from the receipt and went online to find it; she learned on ripoff report that the company is identified with scams, and I went to the bank and put a hold on the check.

They are not scammers

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

I once dated a man that worked for this company, and what the company rebuttal says is true.

I ordered several magazines and received all of them, so I don't understand how that could be a scam, and also these are young people, and my boyfriend was trying to win a trip to Hawaii at the time.

I no longer date him, since he travels constantly, but give the people a break.  They are working for a
living, and are very well-mannered normally.  They are a little over-charming maybe, but they are after-
all salespeople.

How rude to put a stop on a check after getting a young persons hopes up thinking they made a sale.

Nice humanistic touch.

Correct Facts & Not Assumptions

AUTHOR: Success Express Sales - (USA)

This is a positive and constructive goal orientated program for young adults over 18 to travel the country developing inter personal communication skills, gaining an education in direct sales and brightening the future of the youth of america.
Our business group, Success Express Sales, Inc., has been running these contests for over 20 years and adhere to a strict code of ethics and moral standards.  Our magazine subscriptions are cleared through the premier magazine subscription clearinghouse & customer service center, Pacific Coast Clearing Services, Inc.
We would have liked the opportunity to address this situation in a proffessional business manner.
If this consumer would have contacted Success Express Sales, Inc. through our telephone number or written coorespondence from the information provided on our receipt we could have appropriatly addressed the situation.  Also, there is a 3 business day cancellation policy, stated on the receipt, that would have saved this consumer $20 to $30 in bank fees.
Jay Palacio is in a contest selling magazines subscriptions to collect points to win a trip to Europe, a Carribean Cruise, or a trip to Australia and cash awards up to $5000.      These are the facts.
Mr. Palacio would have been reprimanded for knocking on a door where it was posted not to (all contestants are instructed to obey signs posted)  and misrepresenting our contest as anything other than what is stated above
In regard to the other issues:
These are young individuals who are working on their futures.  They are going to be inquisitive on your career, interest, etc.  They are trying to find their path in life.  Could he have been impressed that the consumer had a cool career and wanted to innocently record him playing the piano?
The magazine term and cost are dictated by the publishers of the magazines. On any particular magazine it could be just a 2yr or 3yr subscription that we are required to offer.
There is a $15 process & handling fee for each consumer.
It is this kind of irresponsible consumer reporting that slanders good companies based on assumptions and hear say.  Please get facts and both sides of the story before you just jump online and do damage in our case to the youth of america.
