SAFEWAY JUST DOESNT GET IT!! Screwing and abusing their own employees

For over 6 months the Carpenters Union has been trying to explain to Safeway Management how important it is to support the families that support Safeway. We want them to take steps to see that contractors who work on their building are not freeloaders on the rest of us. Workers who are not taken care of by their bosses are a growing burden on the econmony. Safweway could stop this freeloading by allowing on their projects only contractors who pay area standard wages and benefits to their contruction workers.

"I know that on our jobs, prevailing wages and benefits are always paid"* - On May 8th, we took our dispute to Safeway's corporate headquarters in Pleasanton, California. *Safeway spokeswoman Debra Lambert's response in the East Bay Business Journal May 9th included the above statement.

Is Safeway lying, or don't they understand the problem? Safeway needs to figure it out and help support our communities.
