I have had a Salute visa card for 14 months, have always paid by bill on time and have had regular credit increases. I was charged large fees to open the account those fees were paid immediately, I was charged a $ 100.00 annual fee in August 2008 and now November 3, they closed my account for NO REASOn with no notice. I have a credit balance and the ANNUAL FEE now only covered two months. I have demanded a refund. This action will negatively effect my credit and I will be seeking damages from this company.

You have no legal basis for a complaint. Card programs are discontinued all of the time, and I am sure that it was in your disclosures. Also in your disclosures, you will likely see that all disputes are handled in arbitration (something I don't agree is right, as arbitration almost always favors the credit card company), so by using the card, you probably waived your right to sue.

How is this going to adversely affect your credit? It will likely report as closed, paid satisfactorily, which is a positive tradeline. The only way it will affect your credit is that you won't gain any more "age" on this account, but it will not lower your score.

I do agree that if they were going to discontinue the program, perhaps they should have converted to another card, but they were under no legal obligation to do so. It is actually a good thing that you have a credit balance, as otherwise you would still be subject to account maintenance fees and whatever else they decided to stick you with.

In order to get a refund of your annual fee, I would stay on Compucredit (the company that administers Salute, Imagine, Tribute and other subprime cards) and send a certified letter requesting a refund.

They may have done you a favor..there are much better cards out there without such ridiculous fees.
