This contractor is absolutely the worst, most unprofessional, unethical, disorganised contractor I have ever encountered. Mind you, he comes off very friendly, personable, and trustworthy when you meet him. You almost want to invite him to dinner and your kid's baptism! He likes to bring his wife along to give you that sense of family. Sucked me right in!

We contracted Globex back in March 2012 to renovate a 500 square foot basement when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, so that my parents could stay with me and take care of me through my chemo. He himself promised to have the job done in 4 weeks even though we offered longer, , because we had already had all the framing and drywall in. Job was supposed to be done in time for my chemo but after the first week he started not showed up on time, showing up when not expected, or not showing up himself at all and instead sending his son or nephews or multiple different subcontractors to my house who did not complete their jobs or did the jobs incorrectly and they had to be redone by other subcontractors. The communication between these subcontractors and Sandor was so poor that consequently Sandor burned though his entire budget having to redo stuff, which was evident when he stopped buying materials, started asking for more and more money, stopped returning our calls, and then one day just never showed up and we never heard from him again. This is the stuff that Mike Holmes is always going on about.. it actually happens in real life not just on TV! 

We are reasonable people, we gave Sandor five timeline extensions between March and July ( 4 Months!- the job was supposed to be completed in April), because had many excuses- once he even had his wife call us to tell us he had a heart attack and was in the hospital.. Miraculously, however, he recovered by the Monday after the long weekend. But then he got his tools stolen, and then he 'didn't know I wanted him to work on the weekend', and the final excuse, it was my fault because he had to stop working during my chemo treatments which was causing delays! When we contracted him, we considered these interruptions in the time line. Bottom line, the job was delayed because the man works bankers hours and likes to spend his weekends out at camp instead of at your house and doesnt care about completing the job on time as committed.

Sandor left a mess in our basement, and our alley way, which we had to pay to have the rubble removed, left all the left over contractor materials, sawdust, putty spills on the new laminate flooring, paint drips on the flooring because it was not covered. Everything he or his contractors touched was not fully finished, just enough so you don't complain and think stuff is getting done. Example, base cabinets installed but no counter top, sink or fixtures, Shower kit installed but no fixtures-rest of the bathroom incomplet, pocket door framed but no door, he even boxed over all the vents. We now have to pay to have another contractor come in and snake out the vents so we can get some airflow in the basement. Consequently our upstairs heating and AC is all messed up now because the airflow is blocked. We had to tear out half his job because it wasn't completed to code or was done incorrectly or we couldnt complete because parts were missing which he took with him. This cost us even more money.

I trusted him when I was going through the most difficult time of my life. If I had known he wouldn't get the job done on time I would have never started, especially while going through Chemo, I had enough stress to deal with adding home reno to it. He took our money , went to camp and had a good old time while we were suffering.  His phone# is just an automated message, no live body at the other end, can't even leave a message. He does not return emails-  hopefully he'll respond to our lawyer.
