Sauschucks Garage and Towing Given one price charged another price Port Jervis, New York

My fianc and I were driving about an hour from home to meet his brother in port jervis bc they were going on vacation. While we were driving on the interstate we started having problems with the car, it wouldnt shift into 2nd or 3rd gear. We googled the closest transmission garage and saw Sauschucks Garage, we called them and told them we were stopping in bc we were having problems with the car and were coming in from out of town.
When we got there we explained what was going on the mechanic (whom was also the owner) went and got his computer went to our car (07 dodge nitro) came back and said it was a speed sensor and that he had the part but couldn't fix it that day bc he wasn't feeling good and hus garage closed at 4pm and it was a 2.5 job. He said that he didn't wanna tell us we could drive it or couldn't but it was very possible
we could blow the transmission. He told us it would be about $100 to fix and that it would be ready early afternoon the next day if we decided to keep it there. After thinking about it for a few mins we decided to keep it there bc he had us nervous that we would possibly blow the tranny bc I had to travel back home by myself (and I'm pregnant) and we were an hour away from home. And being that it would be $100 we rented myself a car and I went home only to return the next morning to pick it up. Around 9:40 am the next day my fianc called to see if it was ready (which it was) and was told that the invoice was $347.08 and that they already billed hs CC w/o his auth. Nor did they call us to tell us that it wouldn't be $100 it would be more money and if we wanted them to go further with the repair. I called around to 5 local garages
and was quoted between $120-$150 and that was over estimating, basically this garage charged us $171 for parts which were for a filter, speed sensor and 5 quarts of fluid and $150.00 for labor, I don't mind paying for things that need to be fixed but I would like to be aware of it before it's done, plus they charged us for labor twice for less than an hr of work and worked on 1 area. When I started asking questions and advised them that I had called other garages on quotes to what they charged they became irritated with me and gave me attitude as if to say how dare you and I'm sorry it's the same thing if you were going out to buy a TV, your not gonna buy the first one you see your gonna shop around for the best price!!
Unfortunately we didn't know any better and were stranded with a huge decision to make and we honostly thought that this garage had our best interests at heart, until I questioned there work and their price in front of a potential client that had walked in after me. Basically all I'm saying is that STAY AWAY FROM THIS GARAGE!! They act like they are trying to help you and in the end your the one leaving with a sore rear end. This isn't the last they heard from us, I promise you that.
