My goal was to use it as a back up but now, too late, I didn't realize I needed a back up drive for my back up drive!!!! I understand recovery also means hundreds and thousands of dollars, and there's no guarantee that they will be able to get it done correctly.
Judging from their lack of quality control, care, or integrity, I wouldn't want to make another mistake by going to them to get the data. Sounds like a scam! They know the drive will fail and people will be desperate so they can then make more money from you after the lousy product has failed, as illustrated time and time again!
Learn from my lesson, please don't buy anything from Seagate! They're irresponsible corporation!!!!
Totally disappointed consumer....

1. Unplug it, wait 15 or so seconds and replug it. Did it work?
2. Use a different USB cable. Did it work?
3. (My recommendation). External drive CASES are usually crap. The reason they fail is that the drives get hot, heat builds up and the drive controller (board that the drive is plugged into) fails. I don't know where Temecula is, but if you're anywhere near a Fry's (they have huge selections and good prices), I would go buy an external SATA case, take the FreeAgent Go apart, and plug it into the new case. Don't close it up, just use the part that has the plug on it. *I* would buy a 3.5" case, because you can plug either a 2.5" (Laptop/portable/FreeAgent Go), or a 3.5" (normal size computer drive) into it.
To get the drive case apart, google FreeAgent Go disassembly. Most likely, the top is just glued on. That's how it was when I got my 640 to stick into my PS3.
I'm 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure your data is still there it's just that you can't access the drive through the bad controller.
(Usual disclaimer about grounding yourself so you don't shock the drive)
