I took the car in for tires and an alignment at the same Sears this monnth (1/03). First I was told I needed a rim. I was shown that one did not spin straight. I had a full sized flat tire in the trunk. I requested they use that one. They said sorry that ones warped also. I let them know I had more at home and did not need to purchase a new one. After a little back and forth on my options, one of which was that I not get the tires or alignment at that time and return with more rims if the alignment could not be done, I was told the alignment would still be in warranty and I can come back with other rims.
Needless to say I paid over $250.00 and less than 2 days later the car will not run. The engine is seized and again oil was adequate and there were no prior engine problems. I wonder if others have had problems with this center that they thought moot because the car no longer runs. I'm interested in knowing if your car died of "unnatural causes" soon after servicing at Sears, there by your lifetime warranties being good for less than a week.

Just a couple of phone calls and all the repairs were made when I got alhold of the consumer protection attorney and lemon law agency advocate with the assistance of steven sears attorney law firm and the attorney general did not have to help to get the final repairs made and keep the car safe on the road. just remember that they had to recall million of toyotas for bad brakes and sudden accelleration.
Why take any chances with the safety of passengers and other drivers and pedestrians.

What do they have to gain?

I worked in the Automotive Service Industry for almost 10 years now. I started at a Tire/Lube Center very similar to Sears Automotive.
All cars that came in would go through a 24 Point Inspection. Whether it was for an Oil change Or for tires. Thus the reason why they check under the hood. They refer to this as a courteosy check. Which it is. But its also part of the Service Industry.
Their Courtesy checks like everywhere else should be listed on your Work Order and you should not be charged. As its part of the service you entitled. Most common its a Fluid Check, filters, belts, hoses, wipers. Tire Tread/Pressure check. Undercar check of exhaust, Suspension, or any noticeable leaks.
Sears or any other Tire and Lube Center would in no way benefit from destroying your vehicle. As they don't specialize in any kind of engine, trans, or overhaul work.
And Yes part of the 24 Pt Inspection is in hope to Upsell service. based off of service requirement. In example I do a Oil/Filter Change on your vehicle. I notice it has a very old battery, I mention that to you in hopes you purchase a new battery If not oh well. I INFORMED YOU. So that 2 weeks down the road if your car dosen't start and a tech from another shop or your regular mechanic says Your battery is old and ran out of life. You don't turn around and say, I just had my car at Whoevers Lube Center and they didn't even mention it. I couldve had this done and wouldn't be worried about the breakdown.
Now however if you had an Oil Change Performed and two days later the vehicle is seized. I would be more concerned as to whether or not they added oil to the system. But In now way will a Auto Center that performs maintenance work make any kind of profit off of blowing up cars.

I'm sorry to have used the word "Idiot" I don't know you well enough to have said that. But, and Idiot from Funk & Wagnells Standard Desk Dictionary says: " The idiot is incapable of learning, a foolish or stupid person" That may have been too mean spirited.
Perhaps you are just mis-informned in matters of Automotive Repairs.
What I am trying to say is: Alignment has noting to do with your engine. If your car was aligned they would have no reason to even look or touch the engine in your car. Alignment is done to the wheels with gauges mounted on your wheels. Adjustments are made mostly to the suspension from the bottom of the car.
They don't do a thing to the engine.
Sorry for my rude reply before.
37 years is a long time to listen to mis informed people. Sorry. Good Luck

Idiots only compound the problem! TROLL ALERT!

I like to see if people are telling the truth, so I checked out Franklin's claim of wanting to help if someone would just post a valid Sears complaint.
There 155 Sears complaints here and while I did not check them all, I could not find Franklin offering to help anyone. Gee, guess none of these reports are valid, huh?
Franklin is here to call people idiots and brain-damaged without understanding what he is reading in the first place.
And, of course, there is Peggy from Toolaville, Idaho who is either PegLeg's sister (or PegLeg himself following a trip to Sweden). Peggy also lacks a basic understanding of the language.
And Daniel O. Esq.cute. Enjoy your tires. And read it again.
What a bunch of idiotic, gigantic trolls you are!
Nowhere did I agree with or disagree with or even address Brenda's complaint at all. Period. Never mentioned it. Never made reference to it other than saying the name Sears.
What I objected to was Franklin's using the term idiot twice within three sentences. Took offense and felt like perhaps his parents did not teach him good manners.
Also took note of his supposed ex-employee of Sears status and could begin to see why there were so many Sears complaints.
And it only took ten months to come up with that snappy comeback; the medication must be helping.
I am nobody's yes person, morons. Read it again.

She has convinced me that Sears tires and installation are really good and won't hurt my car. Sorry, gotta cut it short.
I have to go to Sears before they close to buy four new tires for my well maintained 1995 Chevrolet Astro that I purchased new and have been driving ever since. Wish Sears had put the tires on in the first place.

I think you need to look over your original invoice and find rather or not Sears checked or changed your fluids.
If they did change your fluids then there is room for questions. Such as did they screw in your oil gasket tightly and issues along these lines.
However, if they did not do anything with your fluids then I have to say this may have been just Really Bad Timing.
There may be more to this story which makes you think that Sears is at Fault opening your mail...that is a Federal offense.here. But only you know.

What Robin has said makes absolutely NO SENSE. Yes, this is called the "Rip Off Report," yet that does not automatically mean that every person who posts a report has been ripped off! There are lots of crybabies and wannabe's who come here when they have exercised poor judgement or made the wrong decisions -- they are looking to place the blame on anyone BUT themselves so as to not feel like the fool that they are. Robin, judging from her many, many posts, often sides with the poster no matter what -- regardless of whether or not they were truly ripped off.
What about siding with the person or company who is in the right -- not simply the person who comes across this forum and posts a ridiculous report?

No one expects praise at this site, but a little common sense would be nice. If a valid complaint againest Sears would show up, I would be happy to explain how to get it resolved. I am not a "Happy" former Sears employee, but I do have a brain. And the author of the orginial posting has no idea of what she is talking about. She just rambles...Perhaps your problem is the water down there in Arkansas. Tyson has dumped too much waste into it. Best contact Erin Brochivich to solve your lack of understanding of this. I think Tyson has caused "you" some brain damage.
