The EXACT thing happened to me. I called Citicards trying to get a reduced interest rate because of a recent job loss. I was told no arrangement could be made unless my balance was lowered. Then the CSR proceeds to offer me the matched payment. I told her I would think about it and call back. Two days later I called back to confirm participation in the program. I asked about making the payment. I made the payment. I called to verify the match was made. Well I was told by 2 CSRs and a manager that there was no record of me calling back to verify participation. And there was nothing I could do.
They certainly said they were sorry a thousand times and they could understand why I was so upset. Yeah right...I am the one without a job and could have held on to that $600.

You have to be very careful with the Sears Mastercard/Citi Card Group because it is not a good deal for the consumer.
For example, during a Sears Employee meeting, we were told and warned too expect more complaints from customers because the Sears Mastercard/Citi Card Group had shortened the Grace Period.
As far as I am concerned this is a Scam!
Here is how the Scam works and let us see if you can figure it out as I describe what they are doing. Please keep in mind that it is perfectly legal.
The closing date for the top of the line Sears Gold Mastercard is on the 8th of the month. I don't get the bill until the 19th and the due date is for the 28th.
Now do you see what is going on?
Keep in mind that they shortened the grace period!
To me, it is not a big deal because I always pay off the balance. But for a lot of people who struggle from pay check to paycheck, this will cause them to incur interest and the rates they are charging rival loan sharks!
Good luck to you!
