We purchased an extended warranty/repair agreement with Sears for our Kenmore refrigerator.  The repair agreement contract is not inexpensive (several hundred dollars per years).    We finally had the need to seek service under the contract when one of the drawer slides cracked.   The i drawer slide attaches to the wall of the interior wall of the refrigerator and holds the drawer and allows the drawer to slide.   The technician arrived today and very apologetically explained that any parts not affecting the "cooling" of the refrigerator were consdiered "cosmetic" and not covered.   I called Sears today and spoke to several individuals including a manager (who identified himself as Ralph).   The manager explained that even though the repair agreement purported to cover all "functioning parts", it was Sears policy to consider drawers, handles, drawer slides, etc. as cosmetic.   When I expressed my disbeleif that a drawer slide could be deemed cosmetic, Ralph apologized and said that while he understood how a malfunctioning drawer or slide would affect the functioning of the refrigerator, Sears had a different policy and was not willing to cover the part.   When i pointed out that the express language of the agreement did not exclude the drawer slide as non-covered, he emphasized that Sears does not follow the written agreement, but rather follows its own policy in what it considers cosmetic.

We will never buy another Sears product.   Sears has lost a loyal customer.  witpoor service like this.  It is no wonder that Sears is having trouble remaining in business.  Sears policy in this case directly contradicts the terms of the contract and it is not likely that this is not part of any overall pattern to defraud customers.   Sears 4 MY HOME repair service is a total RIPOFF!

Warrenties....

As you state that your contract doesnt specifically deny your drawer, it also doesnt specifically name your drawer as part of your warrenty. As you are going to Sears with the problem, they can deny your claim if it doesnt fall within the scope of your warrenty. SInce you purchased your warrenty through Sears, they are the ones who have to determine per a individual basis if a warrenty claim falls within the scope of the warrenty.

And not to put too fine of a point on it but the reasons businesses now a days are struggling is not because they are no longer relevant, but that the consumer looks for ANY reason to not pay what they should. See you fall into this catagory. Cosmetics are not covered by your warrety. The cooling system is. Which means that you chose one of the few warrenties offered and probably settled with the least expensive one that still offered you a value. You have to understand, no business would be able to make money by honoring frivilous warrenty claims. And despite the fact that you may not like it, businesses are in business to MAKE MONEY.

You can try and escalte this to higher ups, but its going to be a long fight that will just frustrate you. Keep in mind that a drawer missing doesnt effect the use of your fridge. Its just a missing or broken drawer that you can probably get for a few bucks online. Your warrenty covers the EXPENSIVE stuff. Like the costs to replace ANYTHING internal. So consider yourself lucky that IF your fridge breaks down you get it fixed or replaced. Save your warrenty for a REAL problem, not something cosmetic. Because after you redeem a warrenty, they tend to cancel it right after as most warrenties may give you protection for a set period of time but only one or two uses of that warrenty. They normally give you a ONE TIME fix or replacment and then your warrenty is considered concluded.
