My friends were renting a tv and couch from this company. They were making payments with no problem including paying in advance into an "suspense" account. They ran into a financial difficulty and wanted to return the merchandise and get the money back that was was in the suspense account. They were informed the money was already applied 8 days earlier to the bill. It seems the money that was suppose to be applied to suspense account was paid to the account.

They denied at first that this happened. They would not take the merchandise back and issue a cash refund. They claimed this was aginst policy even though one of their emplayees already did this once. The district manager was there and said they would issue a check once they paicked up the merchandise, but refused to give some proof they would recive the refund.

Therefore unless you want to risk a simular situation of them screwing up or making a "agreement" without documentation, do not rent anything from these people.

I would like to start by saying that the author of this article is not our customer and was in no way involved in this situation.
In this particular case our customer had made their renewal payment 11 days in advance of the due date. This is not unusual as many customers try to pay in advance in anticipation of short paychecks, upcoming vacations or other events that might leave them short on cash.

We also offer a suspense/deposit account in which the customer can put additional funds that are not applied to advancing the due date of their next renewal payment. This money is typically used to pay off the account early or to help make payments. Since the money has not been applied to the account to advance the renewal date it can be refunded to the customer at any time.

In regards to the statement that we refused to pick up the merchandise and issue a refund; that simply isnt true.

According to our refund policy we can only return funds to a customer at the store level for an initial payment on a new account. Any refunds after the initial payment must be issued thru our corporate office.

I explained to the customer that we would be happy to refund their last payment since the renewal just came due that day as long as we could arrange for pickup of the merchandise that day. I also explained to them that the refund would be issued from our corporate office and that I would personally expedite the process.

Showplace is a privately owned, 15 location rent to own company that has been doing business in central Ohio for almost 30 years now.  Our mission is to be the best Rent to Own in our markets, be a special place to shop and a special place to work.

It is our sincere desire to resolve this and all customer satisfaction issues in a professional, quick and courteous manner.
