In 2005 July 10 at 3:00 I myself and my husband went and rode the roller coaster the rattler. It had been down all day but it was the last one I was so excited never been on a wooden one. We were sitting in the middle of the seats on the ride. It goes up 19 stores and then drops all of that in about 15 second doing any where from 3 to 5 gs some even 9 it is to there discretion. it proseded to throgh us left then right in a very quick maner. I hit bothsides of the set which hade little or no padding on the seat. then it shook us so bad I recieved a brain injury (the baby shaking syndrom on th left loby of my brain. and from the turns I have a concution to the hole back part of my head. th e ride only lasted 2.5 seconds so I was crying when I got off but I thought it was because of not being used to going so fast. well we went and got into the col water at the water park ther and it stoped hurting. but three day,s later I hade to be rushed to the hospital seizinge, throughing up headache like a mygrain. Ct should white cloud on left side of brain. gave me
pain meds for head. The very next day could,t walk, talk go to the restroom. wet on my self, could not think. some one had to feed me bath me, dress me. This severity went for six weeks. I went to 9 doctors and no one could tell me why I couldn,t talk. My primare doctor finally sent me to a epoleptic clinic and I have posudo seizers which causes stroke like symtoms on my right side.
I can not get a lawyer because I waited three days to go It did not effect me till then.
I have had 8 lawyers tell me across the country that woul be economically un fesable. well that doesn,t help those three that died does it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more comment to the person who posted about the girl getting her legs cut by cables.

That is a TERRIBLE story! That ride use to be The Dungeon Drop at Astroworld! I use to ride that ALL the time and I went a couple of days before they shut down the park. To think they tore down the ride and MOVED IT without replacing the cables! To add insult to injury the operation manual was never translated to English! I keep thinking about how that could have been me or a friend/family member.

Thank God she didn't die. She got paid millions. No compensation for having your legs torn off sure.. but at least she gets to live the rest of her life in luxury and financial freedom. There is this guy who I often take lunch to who begs on the corner. Lost both of his legs in Vietnam and he got a big fat F YOU from Uncle Sam.

Makes you think though. I say a simple prayer every day. I don't pray for fortune, I don't pray for money, I don't pray for anything really. But everyday I say "Thank you God for my arms and legs and the ability to function as needed". A lot of people take that stuff for granted. Food for thought ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your injury but seriously... you're on a roller coaster! I sky dive for fun from time to time. If my shoot doesn't open, it's my own d**n fault for jumping out of an airplane to begin with! Life is about risks. The Rattler is an INTENSE ride from what I gather. I've never been on that particular one but I know the Texas Giant (which comes really close) is a TOUGH coaster. One I typically pass on but ride every once in a blue moon. And coming from a certified sky diver.. you can take the phrase "TOUGH RIDE" to the bank! It's not the G's.. it's the way the rider is unstable and thrown around in their seats. Hence the name.. the "Rattler"... will rattle the hell out of you!

Like someone commented earlier, this isn't an "unsafe" ride issue. It is what it is. I remember some senator was trying to get rides over 4G's banned in Texas. As a result they shut down Taz's Tornado at Astroworld and then dismantled it. The BEST ride I've ever been on! Well.. there was the Sheirka at Bush Gardens.. THAT'S ONE BAD a*s COASTER! But the Taz is much more intense pulling up to 6 g's! I don't think the Rattler pulls 9 G's as alleged..

Anyway, the point is.. don't cry and ruin is for the rest of us! Know what you are doing before you do it and know your limitations!! Number 1 rule of adrenalin seeking!

Best wishes in your recovery.

PS The TAZ reopened (in Cali I think) as ZONGA. Interesting history on that ride. Opened in 1984 as a traveling roller coaster in Germany and Europe. The back seats had to be taped off because of the G's here in the states... cars were redesigned to include shoulder restraints... etc. etc.

To the lady that that said...

AUTHOR: Sugarpie - (U.S.A.)

..."I saw a car fall off the Spider ride at a street carnival in Louisiana years ago and no matter whose fault it was I did not stop riding the rides. That is a risk that everyone takes."
If you had a child or loved one, and he was on that ride...and was killed or paralyzed, would you continue to ride that ride? Would YOU take culpability, or would you think culpability lies with whomever is in charge of the rides?

Only a person that makes a statement like that, would be defending six flags park. Amusement parks like six flags and Cedar point (which I've went to once) have more strict rules and regulations regarding ride maintenance, than street carnivals. It's easy to find that information. I'm sorry to ruin your trip to Six Flags, but the park is falling apart and it's only a matter of time before it goes under.

Maybe other parks will take notice and continue to step up when it comes to their patrons safety. That will help to end a lot of senseless injuries and deaths. Shame on you six flags for pushing the limits, when dealing with safety!

That does make me feel better...

AUTHOR: Otis - (U.S.A.)

..to know how you're spending your New Year, and it explains a lot as to why you're so defensive about Six Flags. Who would want to think that a Park they're going to has this sort of reputation??? It's called denial!

To compare Six Flags to Cedar Point, and even street carnivals is foolish. I thought most people knew that street carnivals, and big amusement parks have very different regulations. Six Flags disregards those regulations more often, then Cedar Point...and yes Margaret, it's a fact.

Margaret, if it's not Six Flags fault the girl had her legs ripped off...then who's fault could it be?

Also, it brings a smile to my face to think of you riding the day away at Six Flags. I couldn't picture a more perfect person that deserves that place:)

OTIS FROM MAYBERRY

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

OK ol Otis,
I feel for the girl that had the terrible injury at Six Flags in Kentucky. That still does not mean that Six Flags is totally responsible.
And what do you really know about Cedar Point or any of the other 200 + parks around the country and the hundreds of Street Carnivals around the country??
They can all be just as unsafe. I saw a car fall off the Spider ride at a street carnival in Louisiana years ago and no matter whose fault it was I did not stop riding the rides. That is a risk that everyone takes.

Now for your info I am in Dallas for the New Years Holiday and will be spending New Years eve at no other than SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS!! I plan on riding all the roller coasters into the new year while I watch a nice fireworks display. I will let you know if I suffer any major injuries on any rides.

What does my town have to do with the point here?

AUTHOR: Otis - (U.S.A.)

...it's a nice way to dodge all of the points made. Oh let me guess, it was the little girls fault she lost her legs on the ride, and yes...six flags did take responsibility. I got an idea Margaret, why don't you go to six flags and ride that coaster. Or maybe trade places with that little girl. Lastly, what makes you think I seriously want people to think it's a real town...or my real name is Otis??? Who would give their real info here? Maybe friends of Denice the menace, like you Margaret.

I forgot to add...

AUTHOR: Otis - (U.S.A.)

I do love amusement parks. I go almost every year, but I go to ones that have a reputation of safety not just care about keeping the rides running...like Cedar Point or Kings Island. My point is that I'm not a roller coaster hater...I like them, but people like Margaret have to understand that Six Flags has ignored safety warnings and is known for pushing the limits of safety. It's apparent to anyone that knows six flags reputation for disregard about the park safety. Anyhow, I'd like to know if Margaret would still ride at six flags? If so, I wish she would have been in the place of that little girl that had her legs ripped off, since she loves six flags so much, and wouldn't blame them...I'm sure six flags wishes it was her as well...no lawsuit!

FAKE TOWN

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

Accidents happen and cannot always be prevented and I heard about the kid in Kentucky but I can't totally say that is Six Flags fault. I have been going to amusement parks all of my 40 years of life and have been lucky enough to not have any incident.

THERE IS NO SUCH TOWN AS PONY, ALABAMA SO FESS UP AND TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE REALLY FROM!!!! OTIS, possibly Mayberry with a name like Otis.

AUTHOR: Otis - (U.S.A.)

please take the time and research six flags. A little girl had her legs ripped off this year, and multiple deaths and injuries. What you said on your last post was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, and may just as well put a lot of parents and children in danger. Not everyone knows these them parks histories! After you see the documentation of how seriously dangerous six Flags is (especially compared to other theme parks) you'll want to give yourself an extremely hard kick in the coccyx!

A DANGEROUS RIDE IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

The RATTLER is a great intensive roller coaster that I like!!! This lady should have made her complaints/injury well known before she left the park, and as for you Michael to say that the Rattler should be torn down, you deserve a good swift kick in the butt!!! I assume its safe to say you don't like rides and thats fine so stay out of the amusement park and stop sticking the blame on Six Flags Corp.

The RATTLES is verified to be an extremely dangerous ride...

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

Deaths on the RATTLER, I'm unaware of...but they are feasible given the history of this dangerous ride.

Please check out: rideaccidents.com/rattler4.txt

Six Flags is well aware of the dangerous manner of this attraction; but refuses to do anything about it, as it has proven to be less expensive to treat victims than to tear down and replace the multi-million$ attraction.

Negligence is negligence. And - NO - the ride at your own risk comment on top does not apply to the safety of THOUSANDS of injured victims over the years. When at an amusement park; you shouldn't be concerned about brain/neck/back injuries from riding a roller coaster. That's just ridiculous. Those warnings apply to following the rules while on the ride; and if you suffer from pre-existing conditions.

YOU SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT THE PARK WITHOUT SPEAKING TO SOMEONE

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

Leaving the park without making this supposed injury known to major management was a total goof up on your part, plus I agree that parks do post the signs. If you can't take it then stay off the rides.

Did you ever wonder ....

AUTHOR: Tallulah-phoebe - (U.S.A.)

.... why theme parks have liability waivers prominently posted all over the place " Ride at your own risk, park assumes no liability for injury, etc."

Do you ever wonder why theme parks list a bunch of conditions which prohibit people from riding? (Pregnancy, high blood pressure, heart problems, obesity, certain handicaps, brain injury)

Now, couple that with the fact that 3 people were killed on this same ride in the past, and ...
1- You STILL chose to ride
2- And you are surprised that you were injured???

I do not understand your logic ... would you care to explain?

Old Saying: If it'll thrill you...it'll kill you....

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

Six Flags here in Louisville had a "minor" problem this summer with a 12-year old girl having her legs amputated (below the knee) when a cable broke and sliced through her legs. As far as I know the ride is still operating.

#18 UPDATE EX-employee responds

What ride did you ride?

AUTHOR: F - (U.S.A.)

First of all there has been no deaths on the rattler even since 1992 when it first opened with longer train cars and larger capacity vehicles. On the date in question " July 10, 2005 at 3:00 " THE RATTLER opened late due to a golf tournament at La Cantera due to the 18th hole's location right next to the rollercoaster. The Rattler is within 15 feet of the hole and is shut down due to noise for the tournament and on " July 10, 2005 at 3:00 " it was a charity event for make a wish foundation for cancer children.

Furter more "It goes up 19 stores and then drops all of that in about 15 second doing any where from 3 to 5 gs some even 9 it is to there discretion" where did you get this information? because the national science foundation even states that 6 forces of gravity on the human body would make you pass out. why would a rollercoaster that was built in 1992 such a force when the wood on the rollercoaster not be able to handle the amoun of pressure and break in half?

THE RATTLER has had the first drop modified and trim brakes placed throught the coaster since it opening in 1992 and prior to 1999 when the park expanded to allow younger and able bodied guest enjoy the ride. the only incidents on record are from 1992 when the ride first opened where a young gentleman decided to try to touch the inside wlls f the tunnel located near the end of the ride.

" th e ride only lasted 2.5 seconds so I was crying when I got off but I thought it was because of not being used to going so fast."

the ride actully list as having a length of 5080 ft and reaching speeds of 50mph making the ride last 2 mins and 26 seconds

"It goes up 19 stores and then drops all of that in about 15 second "

if a ride goes up 19 stories and drops off in 15 seconds how can the entire ride last 2.5 second? you just contridicted yourself!

Actual wikipedia information on rattle: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rattler_(roller_coaster)

when comparing the recorded data of the ride to Glenda's story it does not match up. At six plags fiesa texas they take pride in the great safety record and their has never been any deaths within the property!

I believe this complaint is made by an upset customer or someone trying to get money. in all honesty read all the signs before riding a rollercoaster and make sure you understand what a G force is and that a wooden rollercoaster is known to toss you around.

You should have filed a lawsuit in 2005
