Search TipsThat is a TERRIBLE story! That ride use to be The Dungeon Drop at Astroworld! I use to ride that ALL the time and I went a couple of days before they shut down the park. To think they tore down the ride and MOVED IT without replacing the cables! To add insult to injury the operation manual was never translated to English! I keep thinking about how that could have been me or a friend/family member.
Thank God she didn't die. She got paid millions. No compensation for having your legs torn off sure.. but at least she gets to live the rest of her life in luxury and financial freedom. There is this guy who I often take lunch to who begs on the corner. Lost both of his legs in Vietnam and he got a big fat F YOU from Uncle Sam.
Makes you think though. I say a simple prayer every day. I don't pray for fortune, I don't pray for money, I don't pray for anything really. But everyday I say "Thank you God for my arms and legs and the ability to function as needed". A lot of people take that stuff for granted. Food for thought ;)
Like someone commented earlier, this isn't an "unsafe" ride issue. It is what it is. I remember some senator was trying to get rides over 4G's banned in Texas. As a result they shut down Taz's Tornado at Astroworld and then dismantled it. The BEST ride I've ever been on! Well.. there was the Sheirka at Bush Gardens.. THAT'S ONE BAD ASS COASTER! But the Taz is much more intense pulling up to 6 g's! I don't think the Rattler pulls 9 G's as alleged..
Anyway, the point is.. don't cry and ruin is for the rest of us! Know what you are doing before you do it and know your limitations!! Number 1 rule of adrenalin seeking!
Best wishes in your recovery.
PS The TAZ reopened (in Cali I think) as ZONGA. Interesting history on that ride. Opened in 1984 as a traveling roller coaster in Germany and Europe. The back seats had to be taped off because of the G's here in the states... cars were redesigned to include shoulder restraints... etc. etc.

If you had a child or loved one, and he was on that ride...and was killed or paralyzed, would you continue to ride that ride? Would YOU take culpability, or would you think culpability lies with whomever is in charge of the rides?
Only a person that makes a statement like that, would be defending six flags park. Amusement parks like six flags and Cedar point (which I've went to once) have more strict rules and regulations regarding ride maintenance, than street carnivals. It's easy to find that information. I'm sorry to ruin your trip to Six Flags, but the park is falling apart and it's only a matter of time before it goes under.
Maybe other parks will take notice and continue to step up when it comes to their patrons safety. That will help to end a lot of senseless injuries and deaths. Shame on you six flags for pushing the limits, when dealing with safety!

To compare Six Flags to Cedar Point, and even street carnivals is foolish. I thought most people knew that street carnivals, and big amusement parks have very different regulations. Six Flags disregards those regulations more often, then Cedar Point...and yes Margaret, it's a fact.
Margaret, if it's not Six Flags fault the girl had her legs ripped off...then who's fault could it be?
Also, it brings a smile to my face to think of you riding the day away at Six Flags. I couldn't picture a more perfect person that deserves that place:)

OTIS FROM MAYBERRY

I feel for the girl that had the terrible injury at Six Flags in Kentucky. That still does not mean that Six Flags is totally responsible.
And what do you really know about Cedar Point or any of the other 200 + parks around the country and the hundreds of Street Carnivals around the country??
They can all be just as unsafe. I saw a car fall off the Spider ride at a street carnival in Louisiana years ago and no matter whose fault it was I did not stop riding the rides. That is a risk that everyone takes.
Now for your info I am in Dallas for the New Years Holiday and will be spending New Years eve at no other than SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS!! I plan on riding all the roller coasters into the new year while I watch a nice fireworks display. I will let you know if I suffer any major injuries on any rides.

The RATTLES is verified to be an extremely dangerous ride...

Please check out: rideaccidents.com/rattler4.txt
Six Flags is well aware of the dangerous manner of this attraction; but refuses to do anything about it, as it has proven to be less expensive to treat victims than to tear down and replace the multi-million$ attraction.
Negligence is negligence. And - NO - the ride at your own risk comment on top does not apply to the safety of THOUSANDS of injured victims over the years. When at an amusement park; you shouldn't be concerned about brain/neck/back injuries from riding a roller coaster. That's just ridiculous. Those warnings apply to following the rules while on the ride; and if you suffer from pre-existing conditions.

Do you ever wonder why theme parks list a bunch of conditions which prohibit people from riding? (Pregnancy, high blood pressure, heart problems, obesity, certain handicaps, brain injury)
Now, couple that with the fact that 3 people were killed on this same ride in the past, and ...
1- You STILL chose to ride
2- And you are surprised that you were injured???
I do not understand your logic ... would you care to explain?

What ride did you ride?
AUTHOR: F - (U.S.A.)

Furter more "It goes up 19 stores and then drops all of that in about 15 second doing any where from 3 to 5 gs some even 9 it is to there discretion" where did you get this information? because the national science foundation even states that 6 forces of gravity on the human body would make you pass out. why would a rollercoaster that was built in 1992 such a force when the wood on the rollercoaster not be able to handle the amoun of pressure and break in half?
THE RATTLER has had the first drop modified and trim brakes placed throught the coaster since it opening in 1992 and prior to 1999 when the park expanded to allow younger and able bodied guest enjoy the ride. the only incidents on record are from 1992 when the ride first opened where a young gentleman decided to try to touch the inside wlls f the tunnel located near the end of the ride.
" th e ride only lasted 2.5 seconds so I was crying when I got off but I thought it was because of not being used to going so fast."
the ride actully list as having a length of 5080 ft and reaching speeds of 50mph making the ride last 2 mins and 26 seconds
"It goes up 19 stores and then drops all of that in about 15 second "
if a ride goes up 19 stories and drops off in 15 seconds how can the entire ride last 2.5 second? you just contridicted yourself!
Actual wikipedia information on rattle: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rattler_(roller_coaster)
when comparing the recorded data of the ride to Glenda's story it does not match up. At six plags fiesa texas they take pride in the great safety record and their has never been any deaths within the property!
I believe this complaint is made by an upset customer or someone trying to get money. in all honesty read all the signs before riding a rollercoaster and make sure you understand what a G force is and that a wooden rollercoaster is known to toss you around.
